Bill Maher, who's nothing short of a comedic genius (to me). Handles Elisabeth Hassleback like the childish prima donna that she is.How sad is she, trying to highjack the segment & make it about her...or rather a joke Maher targeted her with several months back.

I find her to be is ALL kinds of stupid. Interesting how she tries to bully him & he can hardly keep from laughing. She was never this bold when Rosie O'Donnell was on the show b/c Rosie routinely busted that ass & often had Hassleback in tears!

I actually enjoy The View, even though I can only watch it online b/c I'm @ work when it airs but EH is like that stupid little child who demands attention @ any cost.

If someone has said that about Joy, you would be incensed, and you know it dear ;) It was in extremely poor taste to make a joke at all about Laura Logan, a woman who was brutally RAPED. And Bill Maher should take responsibility for the fact that it was in poor taste to make that joke. It's not him "just being a comedian".

I personally don't like Elizabeth Hasselbeck, but he did come on her show, and he should have had something more gracious to say than, "Someone has to walk the line so we know where the line is."

They really should have had Elizabeth not participate in that segment. Though, Joy gets to go to town about every Republican who comes to the show so why is Bill Maher exempt?

well YOU insult Joy all the time & i laugh :p :haha: i know that i can always get you going simply by mentioning her name! :p

no, PLEASE don't misunderstand me on this- the joke about Laura Logan WAS wrong. It's NEVER okay to make light of RAPE. I agree w/ you on that.

but it didnt seem to me that Hassleback wasn't picking a bone w/ him about Laura, she was just trying to make it a moment about herSELF. If she had said "making a joke about a woman's rape was a bad thing..." or "i want to talk about the joke you made about Laura Logan..." anything similar, i couldnt argue that, but she specifically highlighted the part about HERself rather than taking him to task over what was TOTALLY a terrible joke @ Laura's expense. plus she spent most of the time she took highjacking the segment trying to make bitchy "zingers" at him which werent that clever at all.

Honestly I think, despite what she said, she was ANGRY about what he'd said about her and the fact that he didn't graciously apologize (which let's face it, he should have, even if he didn't mean it) only added fuel to the fire.

So should EH shown a little more professionalism? Yes. (And so should Joy every day of her damn life, but that's another story.)

But did Bill Maher do the wrong thing and keep adding fuel to the fire instead of starting off with, "I'm sorry I made a joke about you that was in bad taste." and that being the end of it? Yes.

Someone should have decided beforehand that putting the two in a room together wasn't going to be a good idea and pulled her from that interview. Which as I said is unfortunate because Democrats shouldn't get a free pass just because Joy loves them ;)

Elizabeth hasselbeck made herself look, at best, like a spoiled and bratty little girl and at worst like the type of people who pay lip service to the First Amendment. She threatened to ruin the segment with her snippy comments and her denials about being hurt when she clearly was...she is lucky that Maher let her off lightly.

And I thought the Laura Logan joke was funny...just sayin'.

Did he owe HER an apology? How many ppl has she slammed & defamed (& was SERIOUS [even if her OPINION was uniformed] about it & has yet to apologize for it)?

Joy & Barbara both pointed out that comedians often walk that line & are out on the edge undoubtedly whatever they say someone somewhere is gonna be offended. that's nothing new. but why is it always the right wingers like EH who are big & bad when they wanna be can't seem to take what they dish out? That bitch bad mouthed Gabrielle Giffords after the woman got shot in the head & was near DEATH & tried to blame it on HER? where was the apology for that? Free speech, opinions & jokes (even crass ones that happen to include her name in it) go both ways.

Interestingly, Whoopi was rather silent on all this. She's a comedienne, a liberal & has had often been @ odds with EH, "the right" & made scathing remarks about Bush etc.

oh she was definitely angry & HURT by it & everyone on the panel in one way or another picked up on that & some even commented on it but she denied it (badly) to the end. maybe if she had came @ him HONESTlY about it instead of trying to be a clever & "bitchy" about it, it would've helped her case. either way she failed w/ that big time & once again made herself look like an ass.

Difference between her & Joy? Joy (like her or not) doesnt give a fuck & has a thick skin. She can dish it out & takes quite a bit of it.

he wasnt on the dais for that issue but since she wanted to bring it up, she shouldve been been better prepared, so I agree w/ you on that too.

Sure, Bill COULD have been kinder to her, but we know that's not the kind of man he is. He's NOT a gentleman & he's not about the business of coddling or petting a person up. at the same time, he wasnt looking for a fight w/her. she brought it to him. She's LUCKY he didnt roast her ass on her own show the way he COULD have. In a battle of wits, she was clearly UNARMED. But Bill repeatedly tried to move on & she kept @ it. Her other co-hosts tried to move it along, she kept @ it. She brought that shit on herself imo & watching her down was funny to me.

Having those two on the show a good idea? NO WAY but don't forget, its Barbara's show & that woman is very shrewed in her dealings & actions lol.

They also had Bill O'rielly, a loud mouth chauvanist bigot on there...amongst a group of WOMEN, on a show owned BY a woman. That was a trainwreck before it unfolded but it got massive ratings, just like this show did today. They have guests on there that @ times are the anethma to any number of the women on the panel. Barbara knows that & quite frankly I don't think she cares b/c she's shown before that no one on that show is irreplacable. not even a ratings booster like Rosie O'Donnell.

On the other hand, EH likes to act tough & bad ass any other day when there's no one on there to get her told. Rosie smacked her ass around quite often on there & left her in tears, which I loved. If you gonna be out there hollering & screaming your OPINION you better be able to stand by it & she can't. Whoopi takes her to task often too, as does Joy. Those are the only two on the show she DOESN'T try.

If dems get a free pass on The View, then the repubs surely get it on Fox news...on any number of programs on that channel <<shrug>> but really i dont think either gets a free pass all the time. Whoopi had to eat crow when she made the mistake of defending Michael Vick's conduct & as much as I like her, I couldn't get on board w/ what she said about that. It was shocking to me that a woman who is as informed as she seems to be took the position she did but the outcry was so much that she apologized the next show.

Elizabeth hasselbeck made herself look, at best, like a spoiled and bratty little girl and at worst like the type of people who pay lip service to the First Amendment. She threatened to ruin the segment with her snippy comments and her denials about being hurt when she clearly was...she is lucky that Maher let her off lightly.

agreed. hence maher's comment about feeling like he was in highschool. everyone on the panel could tell she was clearly hurt about it but I still say that it wasnt so much on behalf of LL or "women everywhere" as she weakly tried to say & more b/c it was HERself that was included in the joke. I don't think she cared @ all that Laura Logan's tragedy was the basis of the joke, just that SHE was put into the mix & ppl laughed @ HER.

And I thought the Laura Logan joke was funny...just sayin'.

i thought it was a bad thing to joke about & i stand by that. rape is no laughing matter. HASSLEBACK is...all day long but that's an entirely different thing.

I get how as a woman anything to do with rape is a third rail. But trading the VERY hot newslady for EH is a go in my book.

She happened to have been raped which made her relevant but in my opinion the joke was about her being attractive and not to do with her being raped.

I think it was in really poor taste to be talking about how "hot" she was after she'd just been assaulted. And it's in poor taste to talk about ANYONE being sent somewhere to be raped. Which is what he was saying. And if I think something is in bad taste, you know you have a problem.

Did he owe HER an apology?

Yes, on a show where she is the host, it would be the appropriate thing to be gracious and clear the air. That's not something that a "good sport" can "laugh at themselves about". It would have taken very little to say, "That joke was in poor taste and I apologize if it hurt your feelings." Then he can put his blinders back on and go on his own show and rip her to shreds.

Free speech, opinions & jokes (even crass ones that happen to include her name in it) go both ways.

They don't seem to, though. If EH was a Democrat Bill Maher would NEVER have made a joke about her and even if he did, it would have been all friendly smiles. If it had been someone else, the world would be outraged by this. Just yet another case of the liberal media creating a double standard. I'm not a fan of Elizabeth, but why are HER opinions not valid while everyone else on the show (and Bill Maher) can say whatever the hell they want?

Difference between her & Joy? Joy (like her or not) doesnt give a fuck & has a thick skin. She can dish it out & takes quite a bit of it.

But the leftists AREN'T forced to take it. Because everyone in the mainstream media and entertainment industry is to the left and they can't listen to anything that comes from someone of a different political party than they are, whether what they say makes sense or not. Hollywood uses it's power to BRAINWASH people into not thinking for themselves. People would rather let people who have no business telling other people what to think think for them. It's disgusting. And people wonder why the rest of the world sees us as a JOKE?

She brought that shit on herself imo & watching her down was funny to me.

Again, this would NEVER fly if it was a liberal. People who think differently are people to be ridiculed and treated with no respect.

If dems get a free pass on The View, then the repubs surely get it on Fox news...on any number of programs on that channel

That is ONE, RIGHT-WING channel! It's not mainstream news outlets pretending to be unbiased. It's not ABC. Those are two very different things.

as IF you're that liberal! :p :haha:

she can & DOES say whatever she wants though & she cuts up w/ whomever will TAKE it from her. Whoopi & Joy don't take it. Rosie didn't take it. Sherri Shephard's weak to me & Barbara...I'm really starting to see a side of her I dont think I did before but I think if it werent for the fact that EH was young(er) & could rock those short skirts & high heels (thus attracting some kind of hetero male audience) she'd have been booted AGES ago like Star Jones or even Rosie, who was a ratings MAGNET for the show.

EH is entitled to express & she DOES. that's why ppl can't stand her ass LOL. That's not to say that anybody else on the show is automatically RIGHT in a debate w/ EH or that anyone else is right period. it's all subjective. but EH goes out of her way to be heard in many cases more so than the others & she cuts up on who she can get away w/ it, that's one of the reasons why she gets so much flack from others who WON'T take it from her. she dishes it out but she can't take it.

that'd be like me, knowing how i am, going outside saying "i'm the baddest bitch" & crying the moment someone tries to test that claim :haha:

hour for hour though, there's more airtime devoted to/occupied by RIGHT WING media/programming than left & its been going that way ever since the Fair doctorine act was abolished in 1987. but considering how most media sources in the u.s. are all owned by like 4 conglomerates (one of them being Koch Industries :sure: ) it doesnt matter which side of the political spectrum your on, b/c the standards of news reporting across the board has declined severely.

Your argument about Hollywood, I'd use against Fox news & the murdoch/koch media machine (fox news, wallstreet, tea party etc) but that's neither here nor there.

i think the problem isnt always that ppl can't handle something from a different political part, its more likely the ones who get SPOTLIGHTED. Seriously...ANN COULTER!? Bill o'rielly? RICK PERRY, MICHELLE BACHMAN!? I defy you to name anybody on the left as rabid & outrageous as those four (& no you can't name Joy...youve already named her 3 times before LOL :p)

Me personally? I wait for someone show me if they're derranged & how much they are. I don't dismiss them at face value JUST b/c they're "on the right"...if that were the case, I wouldn't be a fan of Shannen Doherty.

oh girl now you know that aint true. They SAVAGE michael moore but he's got a thick skin & can take it. hell ppl clown on ME for being a liberal feminist, especially down here in the south but i don't give a damn!

Fox news is one channel, one w/ many tentacles & tremendous reach & one that is NOT matched by cnn or msnbc (which is merely a profit generator for GE & they don't do much of ANYTHING w/ it, unlike the handlers of fox news- murdoch & the koch bros.) & is part of the koch media machine. the left doesnt have anything to match that.

you're right though - ppl who think differently are often ridiculed & treated w/ no respect. it goes beyond the political realm too.

EH is entitled to her opinion, just like her co-hosts. But she needs to be able to defend herself , like her co-hosts, even if it means taking some heat. You can't be loud like she is & then shrink back the moment you get challenged & that's typically what she does & that's why its hard for ppl to even respect her. ANN COULTER, as ridiculous as that bitch is, will spew her rhetoric & defend her position tooth & nail. I don't like that bitch & i think what she talks about is insanity BUT ...i respect her courage & tenacity (& i'd like to test it in the RING :fdevil: )

Man, I always seem to miss out on the controversies on this show! Of course, if I could handle the cackling hens I suppose I wouldn't miss it. :(

Actually, I may have to sit this out. I absolutely dislike Bill Maher. 'Nuff said.

As for the Laura Logan joke, I find it in poor taste too. I don't care if she's hot, nobody, absolutely nobody, should be making jokes about rape.

I agree that Bill should've apologized to Hasselbeck for that snarky comment...sort of. He made it several months back, so she should let bygones be bygones. If he had made it recently? Then by all means he should apologize. Of course, I don't really know what he said so please forgive me if I'm wrong.

hour for hour though, there's more airtime devoted to/occupied by RIGHT WING media/programming than left

I out and out disagree with you on that one. If you aren't watching Fox News, you ain't seeing anything unbiased about the right.

it doesnt matter which side of the political spectrum your on, b/c the standards of news reporting across the board has declined severely.

I 100% agree with you. Disgusting.

I don't dismiss them at face value JUST b/c they're "on the right"...

I KNOW that you actually educate yourself about the issues and think for yourself. But the media paints everything democrat as "good" and everything republican as "bad" - I work in an industry full of democrats, and I see it every day. It's "cool" to be liberal, and the right is something to make fun of, and that's what young people see in the media. So instead of looking at the issues, and making a decision about what they think on each issue, they see everything in black and white and won't entertain an idea that the democratic party hasn't put their stamp of approval on. The world isn't black and white, and you can't base your world view on a political party.

the left doesnt have anything to match that.

The left has every film and tv show, and the ABC, NBC, and CBS news programs. All I ever read or see on tv is liberal. I'm not making this up. If you turn off Fox News, you don't get anything with a right slant - AND I will say, though I don't habitually watch it, Fox News at least has liberals on their panels and doesn't treat them like shit or belittle them.

People want to be liberal, go for it, that's their choice, but base it on the issues and make your case by showing why the other point of view is false, not by ridiculing a guy because he lost his train of thought in a speech. (That guy, IS an idiot and if he wins I'm leaving the country, but not because of his public speaking ability.) This country needs to stop electing people because they make good speeches and start looking at what people are actually saying.

I agree that Bill should've apologized to Hasselbeck for that snarky comment...sort of. He made it several months back, so she should let bygones be bygones. If he had made it recently? Then by all means he should apologize. Of course, I don't really know what he said so please forgive me if I'm wrong.

Were he not on the show, then yes, of course, there's no need for him to bring it up. But I just think, he was on her show, he could have showed some class. He didn't exactly steer clear of getting into it with her on the show either.

Why should he offer an apology that would be fake to appease her? He came on Barbara Walters show, EH just has a job on it. And HE is the guest. What she did was rude and, as she is no comedian, she even managed for it to not be funny.

And you guys missed the joke in my opinion. And saying that you cannot say a woman is attractive because she was recently raped seems silly to me. And Laura is HAWT. As for trading EH to be raped...that is a stretch. As for sending her to a relatively safe third world country? Yeah THAT I buy.

But in the end EH failed because no one gave a shit about that stupid joke and her butthurt over it. She damn near hijacked a segment over something no one would know about if it were not for her being dumb.

agreed. & she's often the butt of jokes anyway...across the media, especially on nighttime talk shows.

thats the thing i said earlier...well actually Joy [one of Vil's most FAVORITE PPL EVER! :D ] & Barbara said it on yesterday's show. comedian's walk a fine line & are always "out on the edge." some ppl will find certain jokes funny, others wont, regardless of what it is.

I appreciate your attempt to break the joke down, garrick, but i dont think you'll find any women on this board who appreciated the joke regarding Laura Logan's ordeal :) BUT speaking for myself...had the part about trading EH for someone else been connected to some other joke, that would've been fine w/ me.

But in the end EH failed because no one gave a shit about that stupid joke and her butthurt over it. She damn near hijacked a segment over something no one would know about if it were not for her being dumb.

that's what i felt the moment i watched it unfold LOL. i must say though, Maher's joke DID get him in hot water prior to this but it was largely b/c of the perception he was trivializing Laura Logan's ordeal- I can remember hearing reactions to it by various news shows on tv & radio but NOBODY mentioned the part about Hassleback...not even Joy Behar on her own show.

& finally, EH, as stupid as she can be...is also what gives the show some of its best laughs & when they highlight her foolishness on OTHER shows, blogs etc, its the gift that keeps on giving!

Am i the only person that always finds Bill Maher to be funny but still sound like a bit of an ass no matter what he does. He seems like a jerk no matter what he says whether you agree with him or not.
