Shannen Doherty vs. Alyssa Milano

I dunno why but i always had a bit of a hate for Shannon. I like Alyssa Milano and i love her character of Phoebe. I think i mainly like her character for the fact that she is a journalist and that is the career i am trying to break into.
But yeah i like Charmed so much better in the later seasons where Paige was there instead of Prue, Prue's character annoyed me how she always tried to be the "mother" of the sisters, Paige made them all look like sisters not with one acting as the mother.


Oh and Rach! All through High school you always called her Horsey! LOL

Not trying to change your mind or anything, but just on this part here...isnt isnt part of the reason why Prue took the maternal role was because she was the eldest (and strongest) sister? their mother was killed by a demon and so it feel to Grams (and Prue ) to watch out for the sisters. Phoebe prooved time and again she would betray her sistsers...over a MAN no less. Paige was too often dismissed and while she was easily more powerfull than Phoebe, she was often made to look less capable or competent than Phoebe which totally sucked! lol

Oh i know, but i just would ahve preferred to see Prue's character as more of a sister. Yes i know Phoebe was more likely to betray her sisters for men but i still for some reason preferred her to Prue. In all honesty Piper is my fave sister but out of Prue and Phoebe i still prefer phoebe :)

Piper...yes, she was a wonderfull character, but despite taking Prue's role after Prue's death, the show was obviously written to make it seem that PHOEBE was the central sister. I didnt like that. Piper didnt always get the respect or acknowledgement she deserved and that was really bad writing...all to make Phoebe look like she was so important when in reality she was the weakest sister. See, I liked Phoebe in seasons 1, 2 and some of 3 (mainly before Cole crept up into the central plot) but after that? Phoebe went down the toilet for me and as for an actress? The last thing i saw that Alyssa did that was TRULY worthwhile was "Wisegirl" from just a couple years back.

but back to Piper, Holly Marie Combs played the hell out of her, even in the worst episodes, piper was still solid. I would say Prue and Piper were my top 2
 
Piper is my fav out of the original 3 as well. (but as you know Lizzie i was a Paige fan, and a fan of counting how many changes of wardrobe she had in an episode)

I get the whole, stepping into the role of mother, being the eldest but something never clicked with me and her... she knows it, through my psychic powers.

Well if we're talking about charmed I'd say Holly Marie Combs is way better then both but... if we're just talking about these two I gotta say Alyssa I dunno i just never much liked Shannen much
 
When it came to Charmed, my opinions always fluctuated based on the seasons. In Season One I really liked Prue.. she was the fastest learner, the most aggressive, I enjoyed her relationship with Andy, and I loved her job. Then in Season Two I liked Phoebe, she seemed to use her powers in a better way and just seemed funnier, like they we were getting to know the character better... and Piper.. has never been my favorite, I loved her powers but I hated her character, timid in the first seasons and poorly written since season five. I REALLY liked Paige in season four. She was smart and quirky and enjoyable but after that it seemed like they didn't know what to do with her.

When it comes to Shannen vs. Alyssa.. I usually enjoy Shannen's roles than Alyssa's. Shannen plays strong bitchy characters that make you want to watch a show and she always stirs up a buzz and some trouble wherever she goes which is entertaining, though I think Alyssa is gorgeous (minus her INCREDIBLY hairy forearms, seriously look at clips of Charmed and Melrose Place, it's RIDICULOUS!) And I think I just remember Shannen better in things..

Heathers, 90210, Charmed and that one show where she played Alex? It was about a hotel in Hawaii or some shit, it was short lived but I did enjoy her on it lol.

Alyssa is like.. Who's the Boss, a horrible stint on Melrose Place and Charmed. Since then I haven't seen or heard much from her.

Holly Marie Combs is even MORE forgettable..

So I guess.. I have to vote for Shannen!
 
You remember her outside of Charmed? Because I sure as hell don't. I remember Picket Fences but NOT many people do. She is known only for Charmed. I meant to say that at least Alyssa and Shannen have careers outside of Charmed.

to Holly's credit, i do remember her in Picket Fences, specifically the episode where she "experimented" with bi sexuality LOL! I also remember "Our mother's murder" , yes it was a small screen film but many of famous faces like Heather Locklear (who is well respected beyond the small screen) are mainstays in TV shows and TV movies. I also remember her non speaking (or at most one word) and uncredited role in Ocean's 11. back in the day, alot of small screen actors/actresses would take these kinds of roles in select films just to get their face out there.

Holly and Shannen are far better actresses than Alyssa (as was mentioned earlier on in the thread) it should be noted that Alyssa wasnt even first choice casting for Charmed while Holly , who went along with Shannen to her read for Charmed, HAD something of a following and positive rep for her few but meaty roles on the small screen.


any true fan of either of these actresses would be able to find their body of work BUT at the same time, when you do that, you come to see that Alyssa has largely GOTTEN OVER on her LOOKS and not her talent (which Shannen and Holly both have more of). Had she not stayed on Charmed, she would have faded into oblivion, where as Shannen has not despite leaving charmed after 3 successfull seasons (and owning a piece of the show no less).
