Shannen Doherty vs. Alyssa Milano

just because you arent familiar with Shannen's body of work doesnt mean she's not a good actress. The fact that Shannen has the STRENGTH and CREDIBILITY of a talented and hard working actress (descriptions imparted to her by her peers and even past coworkers who admited part of the reason she's such a hard ass is because she is VERY focused on her craft) as opposed to Alyssa...who even HOLLY didnt back up publicly during the Shannen's departure from Charmed should tell you there IS a difference.

Shannen was mentored by Michael Landon (would you question his credibility or judgement?) ; Kevin Smith ignored all the bad publicity surrounding her "bad girl" image and wanted to work with her because he felt she was the "right woman for the job". Aaron Spelling HIMSELF brought her BACK into his empire POST "90210" and conceived the role for "Prue Halliwell" AROUND Shannen. ALYSSA MILANO wasnt even first choice to play "Phoebe Halliwell".. Shannen has had a more successfull run of TV's and TV movies....and at least she DOESNT have the embarrassment of such films as "Poison Ivy 2", and "Embrace of the Vampire" added to her resume like Alyssa...who did just about EVERYTHING (no matter how gimmicky or horrible a role it was) to try to escape her "who's the boss" image. it wasn't until Melrose Place that finally began to take Alyssa SERIOUSLY as a young adult actress and even though it was more for nostalgia than any thing she had done POST "whose the boss".

Shannen has been critically praised for her work in "Another Day", "The Rendering" and "The Battle of Mary Kay" and i think she's AWARE that she's a SMALL SCREEN actress which is why she hasnt tried to break into the BIG SCREEN movie roles. (unlike Alyssa.. who has had SEVERAL FORGETTABLE film roles).

Alyssa may be "better looking" in the FACE than Shannen..but have you checked their bodies? Shannen is tight, has a FEMININE figure and a flawless bust that is REAL. Alyssa has sported the body of a 14 year old CRACKHEAD since seasno 4 on charmed. she looks gaunt and its very unattractive..and can we said "TOO MANY TATTOOS and BREAST IMPLANTS?" :rolleyes:

Shannen may be a bitch...but she's more respected an actress than Alyssa...and as Prophet said earlier...i'd rather be a BITCH than a TRAMP...at least the BITCH gets respect (and a little bit of fear lol).
 
I agree that Alyssa isn't the best actor and Shannon could easily eclipse her, but.... Shannon has been rumoured to be difficult to work with and doesn't quite set a good working atmosphere. I'm not sure how I feel about Shannon as a person, but I love and miss her character. Prue was a wonderful leader and she led her sisters well through out many of their fights. The only thing is... I don't think Prue is the strongest sister. I think Piper is... but that's a debate for another time.

I think once Charmed ends... Alyssa should do something to prove herself. Until then.... Alyssa is just eye candy. People like to look at her and her character although lovable at times is the weakest of the group. Pheobe is the most emotional of the three and it puts her in a very compromising position. Prue was a very strong and grounded and Piper easily took her position well.

Although I don't like Shannon as a person, I do however respect her as an actress and I love most of the projects she's done in her career. I really can't wait to see what she does in the future.
 
Embrace of the Vampire and Poison Ivy was very soft core porn. LOL! I saw Poison Ivy (well, I was channel surfing) and it happened to be on the sex scene. It was so pathetic when she was attempting to give the guy a blow job. It wasn't tasteful in the least, I remember Vil was on the phone laughing. "What the fuck is this?" Then I realized it was Alyssa trying to "act" LOL but it wasn't working. Most debate if a sex scene is acting, but I think so. The actor or actress has to put passion into it.

It just looked like he pushed her up against the door and had his way with her. :whistle: :D I liked the first Poison Ivy film, that was tantilizing but this was...funny.

So many guys want to see the film because she's naked. Which goes to show you its her eye candy ability, not her acting. :shrug:

Whose to say Alyssa didn't instigate the matter? Just because Shannon chose to leave 90210 and Charmed doesn't mean she's difficult to work with. She's fiery, yes, but I think some of her cast members did provoke her, Alyssa one of them.
 
not only that..but Aaron Spelling ASKED SHANNEN PERSONALLY to star on Charmed. the character of Prue Halliwell was CREATED for her. Holly Marie was cast because she was in the right place at the right time and asked to read for the role of Piper...and Alyssa WASNT EVEN FIRST CHOICE to play "Phoebe". She was SECOND choice...after a rather FORGETTABLE run on Melrose Place. Shannen has the greater acting ability, and talent. Looks FADE.
 
Alyssa 's looks will have to fade quite a bit to drop to Shannen Doherty level. And while Doherty's acting ability has been lauded here, I have yet to be presented with a role that was actually seen by anyone. Who cares if she was good in a few shitty movies??? In fact, the claim could be made that Alyssa'a days as a KID on "Who's the Boss?" are nearly the equal to anything Shannen has done. Both of them in the end are lightweights, Milano is BY FAR the better looking woman hand down.

well apparently "someone" (more than one actually) HAVE seen Shannen's movies because they've been reference more than once HERE by more than a few people so that satisfies THAT criteria for you :p

Shannen Doherty was a "child" actress as well. "Little House on the Prairier" and "Our House" both shows had ENORMOUS popularity during the 80s. Shannen was mentored by Michael Landon and had a personal, CLOSE friendship with him (father/daughter). If anything...the length of time the two actresses have been working could be compared..but NOT the QUALITY of their work. Shannen has a better Q-rating, whether you want to believe it or not. The fact that Shannen did not have to work AS HARD to "break out" of the child roles she played (where as Alyssa struggled for YEARS to be known for something OTHER than "Samantha Maselli") shows who had the greater appeal to a wider audience.

and as for looks...to each his/her own. Maxim has listed Shannen in their Hot 100 list at least two to three times (in the top 50) i dont know HOW many times Alyssa has been listed. and you may not find her FACE appealing (alot of people comment on her eyes...but Shannen HAS A BODY that is worth a look or two. ;)

Alyssa Milano is way hotter than Shannon Doherty... and I think Alyssa is a good actress... as is Shannon... but Shannon is too hard to work with

I have to agree with Crow Spell. Shannon can act better than Alyssa, but from my research she is a bitch to work with.................please don't whip me. :farrah:
 
All these folks defending Shannon D. would not be doing it if they met her.
Once she would spit on them or upset them then they would declare war with her.

Shannon D. needs an attitude adjustment.

It is rather obvious that Shannen is a lot more productive than Alyssa. I think Charmed was solely based on Phoebe. She was so vulnerable, and I didn't likw that. Perhaps if they gave Prue and Piper more attention it would have been a lot better. And come on, Phoebe's powers are just blah! Even her levitation. And why does she deserve to have the flame throwing and what not, regardless of whether she was pregnant with Cole's baby or not. Piper kind of had sucky powers whenever she was pregnant. But you know, the good people always kinda do get the sucky "good" powers. Oh well.
 
Especially when she was a god.... she nearly destroyed the world. Piper is very grounded, however she also has the worst temper of the 3. When she's pissed, her power doubles.
 
Prue and Piper were OBVIOUSLY more powerfull than Phoebe. PAIGE was more powerfull than Phoebe but in order for them to make the show seem like it was "ALL ABOUT PHOEBE" from Season 4 thru 8, they "powered down" the Sisters in general , making them less proactive, less responsive/fast to act and far too reliant on potions.

There again is an argument for Shannen (Prue on Charmed) ...for when Prue lead the sisters in seasons 1 thru 3 her motto: "the best defense is a good offense". they didnt rely THAT heavily on potions, they used their powers, and they were stronger on the whole. It was often stated (By Piper no less) that Prue was the strongest and the Source himself stated to Phoebe "your power was always the weakest..not worth taking"

keep in mind that Shannen Doherty was the FIRST person to be cast on Charmed, sought out personally by Aaron Spelling. Alyssa Milano wasnt even first choice to play Phoebe. Lori Rom gave Phoebe a much more "street smart" vibe to Phoebe were as Alyssa Milano played up a "babe-a-licious" version of Phoebe (and this was SO over used during seasons 5 thru 8).

I like Shannen a whole lot more than Alyssa, since Prudence was always the brillant, smart, pretty, big sister. Phoebe was a soft-centered little sister. I wished that they fired Alyssa instead of Shannen. I mean it, WB's Charmed was much better in the first three seasons; the ones that had Shannen as ... Prudence, the unforgettable big sister. Prue had the best powers :angel: while Phoebe was Miss premonition lady. If I was Aaron Spelling, I would've fired Alyssa. As Piper says in the forth season, to Leo, "You healed the wrong sister ." I guessed that it is because I hate Alyssa, that's why I'm saying that MISSS Shannen is better...you decide! :blah:
 
The truth is that Alyssa is too, well, self centered. When she plays Phoebe, she tries to do her best, but, just fails badly. While Shannen on the other hand, she doesn't have to try hard (but she does anyway), to be "the best". Shannen can win Alyssa in Charmed and in the real world.

Much to my surprise, people say bitches (if you know what I mean) are smarter and more reliable. When you think of Shannen, what do you think of? I think of a role model ready to "be on the set" and shoot that movie! Sometimes, someone's gotta lose! In this case, it's

Just to put this out there, I find it interesting how this vs. came down along gender lines.
The women here found Shannen to be tough and cool while the guys seem to find her simply bitchy and shrewish. Meanwhile, the guys found Alyssa likeable while the women seem to despise her as empty eye candy.
Quite interesting indeed.
 
Most of the debate seems to be centered around the characters they played on Charmed. Perhaps my views are skewed differently because unlike practically every girl that frequents these boards, I never watched much of Charmed. <shrugs>

Honey, let's face it men think with their head and not the one attached to the shoulders lol. Alyssa is nothing more than a slut, her acting ability is terrible. She's known as "Sam" from her Whose the boss days.

Shannon has been acting for years since she was young. Just because she knows what she wants and takes charge doesn't make her bitchy. She has more talent than Alyssa, her movies and her television shows prove it.

Most men look at Alyssa and think she's "hot and sexy" and therefore see a few interviews and label her "sweet" or what not. She USES her sex appeal to get her roles, look at Poison Ivy 2 LOL!

Shannon is a solid actress despite her murky history. She's a woman in charge of her career, despite a few run ins with the law.
