okay....i think its pretty obvious who the better actress is. lets review a few movies done by each of them.



Shannen Doherty:

The Rendering: very suspensfull and edgy. she had a very stylish appearence in this movie as well.

Another Day: another dark, complex movie with a very interesting plot.

The Battle of Mary Kay: who knew Shannen could have such fun playing a character like this without even TRYING to be funny?

Satan's School for Girls(2000): a nice remake of the Aaron Spelling classic (produce by Aaron himself). Shannen's role was rather similar to that of her character Prue Halliwell...but the movie was still a fun indulgence.


now then..Alyssa Milano:

Poison Ivy 2: the sequel was rather pointless since the main character of the original movie DIED...and no one from the original movie returned for the sequel...

Embrace the Vampire: straight up GARBAGE....might as well have been soft core porn

Fear: the only DECENT movie she was ever in (imho)...her character was rather one dimensional...but still provided strong support to Reese Witherspoon.

.........oh wait...thats all she's done! oops...guess there's nothing left to say on THAT lol


Alyssa Milano is an actress who really got over on the fact that she was a child star of the 80's...and people were intrigued by her return to TV in Melrose Place. She wasnt even FIRST CHOICE casting on Charmed...and yet now a days..the show's last few seasons have been so "phoebe" centric...that many viewers have jumped ship..including me :rolleyes: When charmed was first created....the role of Prue was MADE for Shannen..it gave her a chance to dispell the "bad girl" image she had cemented on 90210 and in her own life off screen. Shannen's acting skills were evident and even Holly Marie Combs said that she gave 110 percent performance.

Prue had the best powers, the best look of the sisters in terms of style and wardrobe and she was the leader of the sisters who spurred them to ACTION..instead of REACTION...which is what the current group of sisters does best. They now spend their time screaming, getting thrown into walls, and running around tables from demons...depending on spells and potions rather than their own powers. Piper, who is now the OLDEST , often takes a backseat to PHOEBE..what kind of shit is that? and its obvious that since Phoebe lacks in "power" the other two sister's have been "dumbed down" so as not to outshine her. when PRUE was there...the sisters were fast, quick thinking and confident in the use of their powers.

there's DEFINATELY no contest here....Shannen/Prue Halliwell was/IS the best Halliwell there was.

Mia and I were discussing this the other night.... if Prue was still on the show can you imagine how powerful that woman would be!? Look how powerful she was in season 3 when she left, I wonder what would have come with 4 more years on the show...

Alyssa is h o t, but I definately think Shannen Doherty is/was the better actress. Although I have to say I have seen the unaired pilot episode, the one shot with Lori Rom instead of Alyssa and it sucked! Alyssa is definately the better 'Phoebe' of the two.
 
I hate to say it though.. I don't think the show would have lasted this long if Prue HAD stayed because I mean, what would they have done?

Paige I feel is the only reason the show is still on..

of course the show wouldve lasted if perhaps PHOEBE had died instead of Prue. Paige would still be the youngest sister, and the power of three would be very much in tact and with Prue leading...they wouldve definately had an edge when it came to destroying Cole. Unlike Phoebe, Prue NEVER betrayed her sisters in the name of love for a man...she didnt willingly give in to evil time and again as Phoebe did both in past, present and future lives (various episodes). With Prue...it would NOT have taken two seasons for the sisters to finally destroy Cole..because for one thing, PHOEBE wouldnt have been constantly in the way, becoming a liability to the sisters as she was taken over by Cole's evil, the pregnancy etc...and the sisters wouldnt have been so hesitant to NOT destroy him after season 3 because Prue KNEW him for the evil that he was..."love for phoebe" or not...she saw him for the monster that he was.

and the show would not have devolved into "phoebe and cole's drama" ..the shitty mess that it was for season 4 and most of season 5.
 
what difference would it make? Paige still couldve been a white lighter with "teleorbing" abilities. she's basically nothing more than the "team teleporter" anyway. Paige is definately a more responsible witch than phoebe ever was when SHE was the "youngest".


The sisters wouldve been far more capable with Prue at the helm, along with Piper and Paige.
 
I have to agree what everything that's already been said; I was NEVER a huge Fan of Pheobe, I can barely tolerate her at all in most episodes, although in some she is at least bearable - and even though I wasn't much of a Prue Fan...actually hated her sometimes; she was the better sister; AND the better Witch in terms of the Power of Three.

However, back to the better actress thing- Alyssa has not impressed me in ANY movies I've seen her in, where as Shannon is definelty much more skilled in acting - In my opinion Alyssa is only casted because of her sexual appeal. "Sex Sells" so to speak, and thats the only logical reason why I think anyone would want her in their movies, either that or their just extreme dumbasses:shrug:.

Now; back to charmed:whistle:. At the time of Prue's 'legacy' when she was in Charmed, I didn't like her very much; but NOW looking back on it - and seeing the repeats of the episodes with her in them, I finally began to realize how much Prue/Shannon brought to the show, the previous episodes where Prue was on, are OBVIOUSLY very better then the most recent seasons. So when I look back on it, I defiently miss Prue; wish Phoebe would have died instead of her when I look back on it. But I suppose theres nothing we can do, but hope that in some weird way Shannon would come back and Alyssa would get fired...

So overall, in terms of Overall Acting and such; Shannon without a DOUBT takes the prize. :nod:
 
Neither personally lmao. I agree with Brandon, the show would have died had Prue stayed on it...not like it isn't going downhill nowadays anways but still. I loved Phoebe in the beginning (Prue pissed me off too much) when they show was actually centered around the sisters and not the problems. Soon as the Colbe drama started up, I started getting fed up with her character lol, I jumped shipped to Piper...she's always been the stable one and while she may not act much, she's always had the better powers...of which she needs a new one already...it's been like 4 seasons and she hasn't gotten shit lol.

Now person wise, I love Alyssa back in her child star roles...watched it almost religiously, it was just really good. But nowadays, I don't really like either. Alyssa just isn't that good of an actress now that she's grown up, and Shannen's never impressed me in anything lol, I've just always hated her. The rudeness, drugs and drinking just didn't hold up in my book, though I will admit she is much better at movie acting than Alyssa any day hands down.

there is no definate way to tell that the show wouldve tanked with Prue staying on....if anything it nearly DID tank following her departure in season 4. the show lost MANY of its fans mostly the older demographic that it had surprisingly won over during its first 3 seasons.

Alot of people may not have liked Prue...but speaking as a woman who identified with her for many reasons....its par for the course NOT to like a woman who is a "take charge", "take no shit", "proactive", and "in control" kind of person. Prue's sense of duty and responsibility along with her proactive nature were the backbone of the show...and like her or not there was NO denying that. Clearly in the beginning of the show ..during its first 2 seaons...each sister had a purpose and truly added something to the group...even Phoebe brought something essential to the group until she became besotted with Cole. Prue would not have abandonned her sisters the way Phoebe did during season 4. She would not have let her "love" cloud her judgement...and in the ultimate display of why she WAS the best sister of all four Halliwells, she went to her death defending an Innocent...something PHOEBE has not been that concerned with during the last three seasons...and might i add..where was Phoebe when Shax was rampaging around town? she was down in the underworld...even after his first attack on the halliwell manor...all she could think about was "bringing cole" back...knowing that the power of three was needed to vanquish shax. where was the logic in that?

say what you will....but it was evident that Prue was the better sister..not only in powers but in attitude and sense of responsibility. Piper and Paige will never stack up to Prue...and Phoebe...well...WHATEVER position she falls in on the "totem poll" of the sisters...she's ALWAYS going to be dead last in my book

Shannen Doherty is a very good actress with a high work ethic. Even Aaron Spelling admitted that. Though she is a "bad girl" by reputation..she still made sure that she got her work done and she gave "110%" as said by Holly Marie Combs and Brian Austin Green (of her 90210 days). She has a nice portfolio of movies ...and her career platform during the 80's (our house, little house on the prairie etc) on up till now has been far more diverse and received far more kudos than Alyssa's. Alyssa's only bankable asset is her looks..and those will fade. True Shannen's problems with drugs, brawling and such might be out there in the open...but Alyssa aint no saint either lol. her overbearing mother Lynne just does damage control to make sure her dirt doesnt get out there.
 
I agree with Amy.. In the beginning I actually liked ALL Three of them very well. Each one was written so well and they all had a niche that they filled. When the Phoebe and Cole thing took a turn for the worst in Season Four, I started to miss Prue. I like Phoebe because of her powers, but I really don't like what her character has become.

I can see what Farrah said. The thing is, Paige got her witch power when Prue died. She got Prue's power, only different because of the Whitelighter in her. Paige probably would have gotten the Orbing with some kind of Premonition power, which would have been better. Since they ruined Leo's character, she could be the teleporter, and Paige has been known to Glamour in the past and whatnot. I think it would have worked pretty well now that you mention it.. I just can't get rid of Paige.. in the show the way it is now, Paige is my FAVORITE character...

I used to really like Piper, and I thought they handled her with Prue's death BRILLIANTLY in Season Four, but ever since Prue died she has just been so much colder and mean, and trying to take on the big sister role. Granted I love Piper, but Piper isn't really "Piper" anymore if that makes sense.
 
As a man who never has, and never will watch a second of the show Charmed,
I would say Alyssa Milano. She looks better than Shannon D. That's what it comes down too to me. Shannon D is a better actress than Alyssa M. but I'm going off of looks and middle school crushes on the girl from Who's the Boss Alyssa Milano!

but you are so right. men generally will not pick Shannen in this debate simply because they are fixated on Alyssa's (fake) boobs....and her over sexual presentation in the role of Phoebe on Charmed...even though Shannen is clearly the better actress (AND has a naturally larger rack than Alyssa:eek: )
 
I don't know.. Sometimes I think Shannen looks chinese lol... and one eye is bigger than the other..

Plus Shannen is a bitch, and Alyssa is always doing charity work and all that.
 
I agree that Shannon isn't as attractive as Alyssa, in some picture's she looks' hideous:igitt:; however - talent wise I still stand with Shannon, I'm not old enough to have remembered, or even seen Alyssa's childhood show's and such, but from what I have seen, I still stand by Shannon as a much more talented actress ^_^
