I am a fucking god.
congrats, DDD!!! I am happy for your good fortune, bu don't forget: The line for Farrah's services starts BEHIND me, LOL.
A Black guy; wearing a beautiful suit, nice brown shoes and well spoken comes into my store today. He attempts to buy a £10,000 Ladies Rolex and I am furious at the ordeal this man was put through.
The sales associate serving him would not let the man touch the watch let alone hold it to look at what he wanted to buy. Even so the man agrees to take the watch at full price (something that didn’t sit well with me since I’ve seen countless of times where the manager has knocked at least £100 on other stock for blatantly rude customers and could have done with this).
Unfortunately the Customers card requested on the till that the authorisation be called through. It was (in front of the customer as that is procedure) and automatic authorisation was given and the customer was told of this. Yet STILL the Deputy Manager felt the need to take the Card into the office for further authorisation. Ten minutes pass and the customer is beginning to get frustrated as no one has actually explained to him why his property has been taken away without his knowledge. He is given some half assed explanation but in actual fact Kelly is demanding that the authorisation centre quiz the Customer on his identity even though they verbally told her it was ok.
The Customer’s patience finally ending he began to complain and hit the nail on the head when he calmly stated “is this because I am a Black Man spending lots of and nearly an unbelievable (for you people) amount of Money?” - I nearly started clapping and felt a tear in the corner of my eye as this obvious truth was laid bare for all to see. I was proud when the Customer turned round to the Sales Associate and demanded that they ‘give him his card and this damn watch’ – which he finally paid for.
But once the customer left I had to very vocally ask everyone within earshot “how hard do they have to make it for black people to spend large extravagant sums of money?” Is it because our Money is not good enough? Or is it because with all the negative stigma surrounding black people it is hard to believe that it is possible that black people are capable of earning the sort of salary that enables a Man to pay a house deposit on a watch? I then continued to point out that that customer just spent at least six months worth of the Managers salary on a Watch and for that fact he was treated like a criminal!
The same thing has happened to me and I’m just sick and tired of the prejudice! All I want is to be treated impartially and without prejudice.
