<< a few moments later, a chime sounds off as Karen magickally appears before Delilah and Mina. She's wearing her flying suit.>>

Hello Delilah, Mina.

<< Tinkerbell came trotting toward Karen, mewing as she lept up into Karen's waiting arms>>

and hello to you too Tink!

<< She craddled the siamese and nuzzled her forehead>>

After making sure my guests were settled, I came directly here. You sounded concerned.

What's wrong?

<< Seating herself>>

There was no way for Mike was staying in tonight. Especially after he noticed the look on Cass' FACE. He had seen that look and she seemed almost...feral.

Mike had changed into a t-shirt and jeans under which sat close-fitting high-tech armor designed to limit the damage from incoming arms fire and mass blunt trauma. It was one of the new toys from STARS and he figured that he should wear it a BIT more often, especially since it fit nicely under his clothes. He picked up his .44 and placed it in the shoulder holster.

He exited the room and walked to the door of Cass's suite, then knocked on the door. He was not sure what they were going to do, but he wanted out of here and he knew she NEEDED out of here.

Open up Cass. It's Mike.

He looked up at her and smiled genuinely.

“I think when this is all over, you should hang up your wings and do it. Life’s short, right?”

You got that right 'Drew. Hey Sharon, maybe I can make some cash for school as a backup dancer. We seemed to do OK that night at the club right? Either way I wanna be up front when you can do that thing as a free woman.

Pointing at himself an Ana as he spoke, smiling. He turned back to Andrew.

And you TRIED to dodge me right? What is your thing? Besides letting me crash at your place a couple days when I get ready to see Europe?

:: Cass was in the suite's bathroom, getting ready. She was still frustrated and thought that she would go out tonight ON HER OWN and get a "bite" to eat. She was dressed very nicely in jeans, a red polka-dotted silk shirt. She got her hair all ready, nicely styled, waves galore. Her makeup was sweet, yet simple. ::

There. They won't know what hit 'em.

:: A knock sounded on her door followed by Mike DEMANDING she open up! She growled softly. She was not in the mood. She grabbed a red clutch and opened the door, immediately shrinking back in dismay. He had a GUN on his shoulder. She straightened up. ::

*icily*: "Bullets won't kill me."

:: She pushed past him. ::

"Now, if you don't mind, I was just leaving."

:: She hurried down the hall and stopped. HE would be able to help her. She turned back and walked up to him. ::

*matter-of-factly*: "I need all the names and addresses of criminals that should be in jail but aren't."

*icily*: "Bullets won't kill me."

"Now, if you don't mind, I was just leaving."

Seriously? Vampire women have attitudes too?! Fuck...

Uh-I was just knocking to TRY to help.

:: She hurried down the hall and stopped. HE would be able to help her. She turned back and walked up to him. ::

*matter-of-factly*: "I need all the names and addresses of criminals that should be in jail but aren't."

THAT was better. Kinda. He smiled a second with a gleam in his eye as he made a realization, one that would have made him shrink back in horror a couple of months ago. But that was before the Incident, before he became disgusted with the rot in the city, before he realized that a normal life would not be his to have as long as he carried the guilt of what had to be done around with him.

I will do better than that. I will take you there and we can discuss targets along the way, starting with the criminal gang that Arielle's assailant came from. I only ask that you leave one for me to interrogate. C'mon.

The elevator door opened and Mike motioned for Cass to accompany him to his waiting car. That was where the real arsenal was contained.

"Vampire women have attitudes too?!" Oh, you have NO idea... ;)
:: Cass looked bewildered as Mike told her that he would BRING her to the gang that had attacked Arielle. He was going to let her...EAT? And he was now discussing...targets? She stared back in confusion and then shook her head. She really needed to eat something. As she was getting ready, she began to feel sick to her stomach, a tell-tale sign that if she didn't have fresh blood within twelve hours, she would lose her beauty and turn into what she basically would be if she hadn't become a vampire: an old lady. She shrugged her shoulders. ::

*bewildered*: "O...kay."

:: She followed him into the elevator. At least she'll get a free meal. What New York's "finest" would say would be all on him. But she desperately needed to eat. That was most important. ::

Mike let's Cass into the car, picks up a couple of choice 'pieces' and drives off quickly. As he made one turn and then to, he chuckled aloud. He was going to help a vampire feed on bad guys!! Oh well, sucks to be THEM. He got a notion on the way and made a quick right, pulling up in a nice neighborhood of brownstones. He pulls up a picture.

This sonofabitch here is a molester. He is protected by the prominent university in this area but it is the worst-kept secret in NYC. He WILL soon be indicted, but he will shame dozens of young men who will have to relive the horror of what happened to them while in his care, a couple of them friends of friends who will NEVER be OK. Could you PLEASE take care of that for me? His wife is likely not innocent but I am asking you to spare her. He is in the 3rd brownstone on the right, number 1705. I will be able to get you more like this as you need it if you trust me. I will be watching your back. After that if you want to we can hit that gang no problem.

Mike sat and waited for Cass to make her move. He knew what to do and, at this point, there was no turning back.

Streets of New York - House 1705

:: Cass knew of this man. Practically all who lived in New York knew about him. He was an elderly gentleman who was married...and yet he was a molester of young boys. Cass wasn't sure about this one. She looked at the picture and then at the brownstone. She hoped the wife was out. Still, he was a LOT older than her usual 'clientele' but with her stomach feeling funny, beggars couldn't exactly be choosers. She looked at Mike and nodded. ::

"Got it."

:: She climbed out of the car and walked up to 1705, looking around to see if she was being watched...besides Mike. She knocked on the door and waited. ::

Mr. Samblusky: "Hello. How may I help you, miss?"

*panicked*: "Oh sir! My car stalled just down the way and I noticed that you had your light on, and so I was hoping that maybe I could use your phone?" *holds up her phone*: "My phone's battery seems to be dead...I thought I CHARGED it...and I don't know this area at ALL..."

Samblusky: *chuckles*: "No problem, dear, come on in, and you're definitely welcome to use our phone."

*gratefully*: "Oh thank you! THANK YOU!"

:: Cass walked into the quaint little brownstone and down the little hall to the kitchen. Samblusky pointed to the phone on the wall and he sat down at the little table. ::

Samblusky: "There's the phone on the wall, dear."

:: Cass glanced at the wall with the phone and then focused on Samblusky. She smiled at him and sat down herself. ::

*warmly*: "Where's your wife, sir?"

Samblusky: "Oh she's out of town visiting her sister..."

:: Cass nodded in answer and got up. She went to the phone and picked it up as if to call. She wondered if she should invoke her power of the Sirens but then decided against it; it would be way too weird...and creepy. She punched in some random numbers and felt her lovely visage turn into that of the vampire. She was taught this way by her ex-lover, Michael. She hung up the phone and pulled the cord out of the wall. ::

Samblusky: "What in the world...?"

::He stood up but Cass turned around quickly and pounced on him, using her RAZOR-SHARP FANGS to bite into his neck. Listening to his weeping and pleading and begging, she finished him off and stared at his prone body. She wiped her mouth and headed out of the house, her full beauty returned. She smiled happily as she bounded up to Mike's car and got in. ::

"Mission accomplished."

:: She lowered the visor and checked her face in the mirror, making sure her mouth was free of blood. ::

He saw it. All of it. The line of sight was easy to access and he did it silently while watching her talk her way in BOLDLY, almost brazenly. He watched in the window angle he picked up as cute little Cass killed this guy and drank him dry, seeming to get even YOUNGER as she did so. He thought he would be disgusted or frightened, but he wasn't. This guy deserved it and got it in spades, his last few seconds spent begging the same way those kids did when he was taking his pleasure out on them.

Mike hurried back to the car and pulled up as Cass appeared outside, casually getting in.

"Mission accomplished."

:: She lowered the visor and checked her face in the mirror, making sure her mouth was free of blood. ::

Amazing. Just amazing. It was like he had a weapon of mass destruction in his car just riding around. He allowed her a second to compose herself before he spoke. He was much more calm than he thought he would be when he realized he would go through with this.

That was easy huh? By the way, how often do yo need to do this if I can ask?

:: She turned to him, her eyebrows raised. He sounded WAY too calm for somebody who didn't know of any other vampires besides her...that HE knew of. Vampires could live almost normal, human lives thanks to relics 'blessed' enough to keep them from suffering ravages of the sun...such as her ever-present ruby necklace. ::

"Media...is the shit. You know Dracula, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its dumb-ass vampire characters? Well, that's not true. We can go for a LONG time without eating. Longer than you'd expect. But it has its limits. For me, whenever I feel sick to my stomach, if I don't eat within twelve hours...that's bad."

Delilah and Mina greeted Karen.

"Thank you for coming back so soon, Karen.

Karen said:
You sounded concerned. What's wrong?

Delilah turned her chair so she was facing both Karen and Mina.

"Something is needling me: we've completely glossed over the strange circumstances that brought Mina to us. Your visitors brought it back to the forefront of my mind, I guess. I think this is something we need to get to the bottom of - even before we go to Nervous if possible."

Rich said:
And you TRIED to dodge me right? What is your thing? Besides letting me crash at your place a couple days when I get ready to see Europe?

Andrew grinned broadly and leaned back in his seating, stretching his arms wide.

"You know me, Rich - I'm an open book. No secrets under this pretty exterior."

Mike drove a bit farther until he got to an old parking garage. Pulling in, he stopped and tuned to face Cass.

I see in your face that you are wondering what the hell I am doing. Why am I acting like this is no big deal.

Mike laughs a bit, looks off, then looks back to Cass.

It is a big deal. A HUGE deal. Something that if you told me I would be doing 6 weeks ago I would have laughed in your face. Hell, maybe 6 days ago. But shit is DIFFERENT Cassandra. You being a Vampire is amazing and honestly somewhat scary shit, I will be honest. But what is scarier is that this world is not the world I imagined not so long ago. There is a lot more EVIL, pure EVIL out there. People who we cannot think to simply deal with, people who we cannot think that a few years in jail is enough. People who treat everyone and everything as disposable. Think of that...EVERYTHING is disposable. That is scarier than anything I could ever imagine. So while I never thought I would be leading a vampire to prey, I would do it every day if I can lower the pure evil that I see out here.

He reaches out and touches her face.

There have been stories and rumors and evidence of super people for some time, after a bit of thought the fact that there are vampires does not freak me out. You might find that bewildering but remember, I just fought ZOMBIES last week. And you are much more pleasant on the eyes, BELIEVE me. So yeah, if you are with me and you will trust me, I am gonna feed bad motherfuckers to you and spare the innocent and the stupid kids that can be salvaged. I want there to be a PRICE for being evil fucks who don't care about anyone or anything. A PERMANENT one.

Mike paused. He KNEW she had to have SOMETHING to say...

:: Cass was somewhat surprised by his words...even though she probably shouldn't have been. The world today has become more and more evil by the SECOND...thanks to MysTech. It was hard to wrap one's head around. ::

"But...what would your coworkers think? I don't know much about the NYPD, but surely they would have something to say about this? We don't know how far MysTech's tentacles reach. If I weren't hungry, I'd have you drive me back to the hotel."

:: She laid her hand on his shoulder. ::

"I just don't want you to lose your job and lose your resources and whatever else we need to destroy those bastards. We need you."

:: She paused for a beat. ::

"I need you."

:: With that, she looked away and bit her lip. It was the close she'll ever get to words of affection with somebody she hardly knew...even if she liked him. Her past had taught her well. She would keep her secrets and her story to herself...and a few key people in her 'family'. ::

It was sweet that she worried about his job. VERY sweet. He reached out and grasped her chin in his hand, turned her back to him.

My job...the clock is ticking on that. Mystech has their tentacles in TOO far. A lot of good guys have already left, are doing some private security, freelance investigations, shit like that. I have cash saved from inheriting my parent's home and saving and investing what I would have paid in rent over the years. Also Mama left me some insurance payouts and I am generally good at finding deals. I have put in for a few weeks vacation I had saved up and I will figure it all out by the time it goes away. If need be I will walk, do some for-hire stuff here and there and be FINE. Plus my contacts are MINE, I just happened to meet them while a cop. So don't worry about me Cassandra. I will be fine.

Mike rubbed her face and then turned to put the car back in gear...time to kill again.

Parking Garage - NYC

:: Mike told her not to worry....but she DID worry, and she hated it. She never had to worry about people before. Hell, her entire world was about being a vampire and surrounded by them. Humans were just secondary characters in her world, things that she did business with and tolerated. After meeting Mike, Karen, Mina, and yes, even Andrew, she found herself looking at humans with a different perspective. They had become different ever since THAT night: innocent, victimized by the unseen evil that surrounded them. Cass didn't think of them as food, exactly, just people that she never cared about. She had DONE the caring thing and it hurt like hell. Still did, as a matter of fact. THAT was what bothered her: the fact that people, HUMANS, didn't care for her or see her potential. She was underestimated at every turn, like they didn't believe that she could take care of herself. Well she could; more than they knew. ::

:: Just before Mike started the car to go looking for more meals, she leaned over and gave him a small kiss on his lips and then looked down shyly. ::

*softly*: "I do worry, though."

:: She looked up out the window as the car started. Even though he told her that he would be fine, she still worried. After all, HE was a human being. HE could die. OKay, granted, so could she, but HE had a lot more chances to get himself killed. HE wouldn't live forever...and she could and would. She worried about Karen, Mina, Andrew... Letting people under her skin got to her, especially if they were HUMANS. She always felt a need to protect them, thus going off on her own and killing those she deemed unworthy to live. She stared out the window. She felt responsible for everyone now. She didn't know what Delilah's team was like, but if they could die, well, they would automatically be under her watch...whether they wanted it or not. ::

Ana felt for Sharon...this woman's life was completely destroyed by MysTech. Her family was taken away from her, her life was cut short, and she was turned into--for all intensive purposes--a "monster". How could she look beyond taking down MysTech and just hang out with them like everything was normal. But to her credit, she tried. She expressed that she loved singing and Ana softly smiled. It was probably the only thing in Sharon's life that kept her going, besides her need for revenge against MysTech. But she did share something that was a complete surprise. Lifting her eyebrows and laughing softly as she perfectly imitated both hers and Rich's voice, Ana couldn't help but smile.

"Now THAT is cool."

Andrew: “I think when this is all over, you should hang up your wings and do it. Life’s short, right?”

"Agreed. Too short....So what about you Irish? We know you're a smooth talker, what else is up your sleeve?"

Rich also egged Andrew on trying to get some information out of him.

Andrew: "You know me, Rich - I'm an open book. No secrets under this pretty exterior."

Rolling her eyes, Ana didn't believe that for a second.

"You know, the person who claims they have NO secrets always has the most secrets to hide. Just sayin'."

She taunted slightly, knowing this kid wasn't an open book like he claimed to be. But she neither needed to pry nor feed his ego, so Ana pushed herself off the couch and padded over to the kitchen.

"Anyone else want a beer?"

The pair stand on the top of an abandoned building near the docks. Mike is finishing setup on an M-40A3 sniper rifle.

OK Cass. I know you do not need all of this rigamarole, but I am doing this for an important reason. The people you are going to be feeding on are important people...people who will have other people looking for you. I do NOT want visuals of you or any reliable witnesses who will speak to other people.

With that in mind...

Mike looks through the sight off to the warehouse right by the water.

You see those two guys by the door? They are already dead men. When more people swarm to the front to respond to their deaths, you can easily slip inside and take down your 3 targets I showed you in the car. Please leave the rest. I will use them afterwards in the chaos to get even more information and sow discord amongst the vermin. By my calculations, once I knock these guys off and drive over to the pickup point we agreed upon you should be there. If not, I am coming in after you. In 40 seconds they will drop. Take care and....GO.

Mike settles into the sight and silently counts off the time. Inevitably the time comes to act.

35...36...37...38...39...FUMP!!!

A suppressed crackle echoes out as 1000 yards away, a well-dressed thug's head explodes and he slumps to the ground. His compatriot looks on startled, and the last thing he sees is his friend's brain mass on the ground before his own adds to the mess.

New York State of...Death

:: Cass was already down below crouching by the warehouse when the second shot rang out. She waited until a group of people ran out to inspect the carnage and see what the commotion was. ::

Okay and....go!

:: Cass jumped up soundlessly and entered a half-open window. The room was dark but, thanks to her super eyesight, she didn't need a moment to get them adjusted. She headed for the door and stopped. She pressed her ear against the door and didn't hear anything, so she softly opened the door and went into the large part of the warehouse. ::

:: Keeping to the shadows, Cass headed towards the stairs to the second floor. She headed up them, trying to figure out her next step. She was now on the second floor, in a large hallway with offices on both sides. Only one office was lit. Cautiously, she headed for the lit office when an idea struck her. She started running towards it. ::

*scared*: "Oh! Oh! Thank goodness you guys are in here!"

:: In the office, there were the three targets. All of them were young men and they looked annoyed at the intrusion. One of them, got up from the leather chair. ::

Dude: "Listen, lady, you shouldn't be here..."

"Oh, but I was walking near the water when those GUYS were shot! IT was awful! I have never seen anything like that! One of the guys told me to come in here and use the phone to call 911, but I couldn't find a phone on the first level..."

Dude: *winking at the others* "Oh, come with me and we'll go find a phone. Come, come..."

:: He took Cass by the arm and led her out of the room. Cass looked up at him, her eyes wide and innocent. The guy looked into them, and, suddenly, he was completely mesmerized by Cass' beauty. ::

Dude: *softly*: "Hey..."

*softly*: "Hey..."

:: He leaned down and kissed her on the lips. Cass was a good actress, which was good because she didn’t like his lips all that much. Too thin and slightly hard. They also tasted sweaty. Cass kissed him back, though, and then broke away.

*softly; flirtatiously*: “Hey,”

:: He grinned and pressed her against the wall, leaning his forehead against hers, tangling his fingers in her hair. He began to kiss her neck. ::

“Yeah?”

:: She vamped out and kiss his cheek and then his lips. He still had his eyes closed. ::

Dude: *whispers lustfully*: “Oh, baby, that’s good,”

:: Cass narrowed her eyes. NOBODY was allowed to call her ‘baby’. NOBODY. Her yellow eyes glimmered as she licked his neck. She made a face as his skin didn’t taste too good either, but his blood…oh his blood smelled delicious! She bit his neck and he cried out lustfully. ::

Dude: “Again! Bite me again!”

:: Cass did…and drank him dry, the poor soul too lost in his lust to know what hit him. He didn’t even feel pain; the power of the SIREN was that strong. She let his body fall and she pulled him into an empty office and shut the door. She then used her VOICE to sing the song of the Sirens. ::

:: As her beautiful voice rose and fell as the song started, the two guys in the office ceased talking and started to listen. They both stood up and headed out of the office, their minds completely taken over by the gorgeous girl standing in the middle of the floor watching them. ::

:: Cass sang and sang, it didn’t matter which song she was singing, her victims would hear it sung like they have never heard it before. She watched as the lustfulness that was inside grew and grew until they couldn’t take it anymore: they HAD to have her. She walked over to the guy on her left who was practically slobbering. She wrapped her arms around his neck and tangled her fingers through his hair and gave him a kiss. He kissed her back…actually; he wasn’t kissing as he was practically SUCKING on her lips. She pulled away and smiled at him. She licked his neck and he started to lick hers. She vamped out and bit him and drank HIM dry, much to his friend’s delight…and to his. ::

UGH! What is with their lips? They taste terrible!

:: She turned to her last victim who was crying in lustful agony. ::

Ugh! This is so not fair…but at least their blood is delicious.

:: She made her way towards him, a sweet smile on her face. ::

Dude #3: *crying*: “Oh yes…YES!”

:: Cass reached him and wrapped her arms around his waist, looking up at him. She kissed his cheek and then nuzzled it before licking it. He bent his head and pressed his lips against hers, kissing her lightly and softly. ::

Much better, but still…I’ve had better.

:: She kissed him back and pulled away. She gave him a teasing smile and, vamping out, bit him on the neck, making him cry out joyfully. ::

Dude #3: *ecstatic*: “YES! YES! DRINK ME! DRINK ME ALL!”

:: And so she did. Every last drop. She let the body fall and headed for the stairs, wiping her lips. Their lips were disgusting…except for Number 3. But even so, he managed to get some saliva inside of her mouth and THAT was disgusting. She wished she could still spit. Or gag. She headed down the stairs but then stopped. She heard voices. Soundlessly, she scurried back upstairs and headed into the first office she saw. She went straight for the window and opened it. Luckily, it went up without a sound and she peeked out. She noticed a garbage compactor below and jumped out the window, landing on top of the lid. A big clang sounded and she tumbled off of it into the shadows, just as two people came into view. ::

Person: “What was THAT?”

Person #2: “What?”

Person: *confused*: “Oh…nothing?”

:: Cass waited until they were gone and hurried to her and Mike’s agreed-upon pickup spot. She made a face at the terrible taste in her mouth. ::

Mike pulled up to the spot after arming himself to the teeth. He fiddled nervously with a blade, spinning it in his hand as the clock in his head ticked. He told himself that he would count to 1000 at a brisk pace before he went in after her. He knew that if he went in there would be carnage, but that did not bother him at all. Not in the least. He had reached 614 when he saw her briskly but coolly walking up.

Funny thing about her walk that he had seen from the first moment in that bar when she went to the back. She moved smoothly, lithely, like you would expect a cat to if it walked on two legs. He could not help but find it incredibly intriguing, alluring and sensual. He had NO doubt in his mind how she hunted, as the carnal images flowed freely to his head and groin as he imagined, unbidden, what she could do TO and FOR him with a body that moved like that. She likely was hunting the poor shmucks as they were trying to figure out how to get into her pants. They were looking at her wide eyes and soft lady-bits and she was sharpening her fans. He chuckled and pushed the sex thoughts away, maintaining his discipline as he got out and opened the door for her, then closed it back.

He settled into the driver's seat and turned to Cass. He had no need to ask how it went. He KNEW that there was no one in there that could stop her, that HE could not stop her knowing who and what she was. He imagined that perhaps this is what women felt when they dated men as large as he was once they knew WHAT he was. Without some trust, there was the possibility of...FEAR. But he did not fear her, and he smiled widely as she returned his gaze.

So...how do we celebrate? DO we celebrate? Here's what we do: I drive away with you and you think of something we can do next that would be really cool.

Mike patted her knee and then smoothly pulled away, driving normally as he blended smoothly into the relatively brisk traffic coming and going in that area. It was perfect getaway driving, no excessive speed, no reason for them to be stopped or noticed in any way.
