As much as she was dreading this stupid hunt that Alek was putting together, she had to admit that she was looking forward to riding. It had been a few weeks since she had gotten a chance to get in a saddle again and she was certainly in need of it right now. Riding always cleared her head.
John: "Scare the horses..."
Ava cracked a smile, looking up a John wag his eyebrows. Finally laughing, she shoved him playfully. She knew he wanted to have a little fun up at Arklay and requested she wear something easily discarded, but after her shit show of a meeting and feeling the need to change into something she could spill blood in if need be, it was far more constricting than her prior outfit.
"Sorry I changed."
She looked forward with a salacious smirk.
"Guess you'll have to bend me over...."
The elevator doors dinged at that exactly moment, opening to the roof top. After boarding the helicopter, Ava snuggled next to John, her eyes staring out the window as they took off.
John: "Think I could pay the pilot to just circle the city for a while?"
Ava smiled at the thought as he kissed her forehead.
"Or pay him to fly us away from the city all together.."
Leaving Hellfire and spending a weekend alone with John sounded perfect. Especially after everything he had just done for her in the elevator. Ava thanked him, although her words didn't seem enough.
John: "I told you, you are stuck with me. And we are in this thing together now. No matter what."
Ava tilted her head up, her eyes meeting with his.
"I love you."
Pressing her lips against his, they enjoyed the solitude of being together for the rest of the flight until arriving at Arklay. Making their way up the large grassy lawn, ahead they could see red tents and a group of people already gathered.
John: "So...right to the stables or should we shmooze first?"
Ava was going to make an excuse about checking on her horse Phantom to give her a few more minutes alone before having to put on the mask. But John kept telling her she could tell him anything - that he would carry her load when she needed it. So as they approached the others, she leaned up to him, whispering in his ear.
"Do you mind shmoozing without me for a few minutes? I just need more time to get my head in the game..."
Giving him a small smile, Ava pressed her lips to his as she held his cheek prolonging the kiss. Finally, she broke it as they reached Alek, Archer, Ben, Daniel, and Amanda.
"Good afternoon."
Nodding to everyone, Ava broke her grasp on John's hand and began to head towards the barn. Once inside she could already feel her body lightening as she approached Phantom's stall, drawing from his excitement once seeing her.
"Hello my beautiful boy."
Phantom hit his hoof against the ground, nodding his head up and down while neighing happily. Ava smiled widely, running her hand down his nose.
"I've missed you so much."
Animals were stoic creatures on the outside, but because she could feel their emotions and speak with them, Ava was fully in tuned when they were hurt. And despite feeling Phantom's initial excitement, Ava's face became more serious once realizing that he was in pain.
"Hey...what's going on.."
Opening his stall, she stepped inside to see him favoring his back right hoof, obviously in a lot of discomfort. Running her hand along his side as she went to his hind leg, Ava slid it down his back leg to lift his hoof. He let out a cry like neigh, moving his body away from Ava in a spook.
"Whoa...whoa...it's okay baby, calm down."
Ava tried to ease Phantom down, all the while incredibly pissed off that the staff wasn't properly watching him. He had thrown a shoe and was in a lot of pain, probably because the nails were still in his hoof.
"Fucking bastards..."
She growled as she tried to steady and calm him.
