Where to start

I lost my way on comics a long time ago but i'm looking to get back into it. Mostly because i'm far to impatient on waiting on the movie versions of my Marvel faves and I want more of the universe. I'm looking to dive into Thor, Cap, the Avengers and Guardians.

Trouble is given the vast amount out there especially for Thor and Cap with different arcs and universes, where do I start. I have been googling but there appears to be differing opinions.

So where do you suggest I begin?

I'm all minimalist these days so for the large part i'm probably going to get them for the Kindle.

If you are looking at Marvel, my suggestion is to jump in during the event that is about to start called Secret Wars. That should help you see what titles you might be interested in, and hopefully you won't be too lost. There is a lead-up going on in Avengers and New Avengers written by Jonathan Hickman that if you don't want to wait you could start reading now.

Otherwise, my advice is to just jump in with a few titles that interest you - if you try to read EVERYTHING that has come before you will just give up because it becomes overwhelming. You can always cut out or add titles as you go.

If you want to read the back stuff, I would say see what your library has, or maybe subscribe for a while to Marvel Unlimited which lets you read all their back titles in the collection (something like 15,000) for a monthly fee.

Comixology is a good place to buy, imho. Also Amazon (who actually owns them now) sometimes has the TPB's for cheaper, which can be a good way to catch up on a storyline without having to buy each issue or read EVERY tie-in.

:)

A friend of mine suggested the Ultimates so i've got a batch of those as well as some of the other Stan Lee Thor titles with his introduction, Journey into Time. Also Thor Son of Asgard, Loki Agent of Asgard.

In the same vein of Loki AoA I would also recommend the last arc of Young Avengers (written by Kieron Gillen and drawn by Jamie McKelvie) it also functions as a bit of a setup to Agent of Asgard (as in how he gets from being the kid on Thor to being a teen/man again)
