I'm more of a retro girl when it comes to TV now. Most all of the shows that i cared about have since ended or been cancelled and the last "current" show i was really into , "Desperate Housewives" has fallen off with its creativity.

Anyone who knows me, knows I'm a fan of classic shows like: Bewitched, Charlie's Angels, Wonder Woman; Roseanne, Cosby Show, A different world, Dynasty; Living Single, Melrose Place, Charmed , Will & Grace (for a while), Friends.

Shows that span 40 years and are seen SOMEWHERE on tv at any given moment lol.

But there really arent any current shows i just feel COMPELLED to watch loyaly anymore. Like i said, I was into Desperate Housewives but I was left disillusioned after season 2 & 3 so i just stopped caring about that show.

"Reality Shows" don't count to me. none of them are "real" and they all have the same outcome, regardless of the format. There are SOME that are more...attention grabbing than others, like "Bad Girls Club" but the grandfather of "reality shows" , "The Real World" is not even what it used to be (and I was in highschool when the first season of RW debuted).

So I'm just wondering...what's on these days that you are watching? What shows do you HAVE to check out every week? I'm trying to see if it really is a generational thing (they say if you're over 25...TV is not geared toward you) or if there really just anything out there appealing to me and my personal interests.

Also, I have a theory as to why shows/movies nowadays are not easily accessible to an olderster like you but didnt want to hijack the thread on my first day

I wondered about that myself. There are very FEW things on TV that I must watch. Anything that I must have watched got canceled. Deadwood, Carnivale, John from Cincinnati. Thats why I got rid of HBO, I was fed up with their crap. So. Its rare I watch anything new. If I watch anything its usually a movie.

Also, I LOATHE the commercial. So..

EDIT: Oh and Jericho! though not cancel by bloody HBO but canceled nonetheless.. and that was a damn fine series with a wonderful cast.

you know speaking of HBO, i COMPLETELY forgot to mention that i was a DIE HARD Sex & the City fan and i watched that show religiously from start to finish. Saw the movie too and am waiting on the sequel! that was the LAST thing from HBO that i cared about, However i';m being told more and more that TRUE BLOOD is something I would like and now i see Nix, who is over 25 like me ;) watches it too. The fact that its on HBO lets me know its not going to be censored!

don't feel bad, girl...i'm over 25 too.

another true blood fan. im really thinking i should check this out.

Ghost Whisperer is still on? Did it do to "Medium" what "Alias" did to "Dark Angel"? I loved Dark Angel, but then Alias came along and eclipsed it and D.A. wound up getting cancelled. I preferred Medium because i'm a fan of Patricia Arquette's. Of course I'm also one of those people who thinks she should have reprised her role as "Kristen" in Nightmare on Elm street 4 too lol!

Definately there with you on Charmed. I watched Buffy, the seasons with Faith, the Initiative and Dark Willow are the ones that stood out to me the most.

I watched Angel but it didnt have the same connection for me that Buffy did.

I havent seen one episode of Dollhouse. I AM a fan of Eliza Dushku, i think she's hot and she's got that fire but Joss Whedon is kind of overrated to me know. After his epic fail attempt at getting the Wonder Woman movie off the ground AND what he allowed to happen to ShadowCat in Marvel's X-men comic...i'm DEFINATELY over him lol!

You know i ALSO have tried "The Closer" and "Saving Grace" BOTH are good shows but I always FORGET what time they come on :(

right now i watch a lot of Scifi and fantasy shows with a few dramas too

Supernatural
Fringe
True Blood
Eureka
Doctor Who
Torchwood
Being Human
Lost
Stargate (SG1, Atlantis and Universe)
Weeds
Rescue Me
Leverage

I have the first season of Tru Blood on DVD (my boycotting only lasts so long, I figure DVDs are safe) but I wasnt that thrilled with it. It lacked the bite I expect from a vampire show. Moreover, in my opinion, the vampires were uninspiring and a bit bland. It was difficult for me to swallow the True Blood.

The human on human interaction was far better and would have liked to have seen more. The jury is still out for me. I did manage to catch a few episodes of season two. But I think 6 Feet Under got stale quick as well. Am not sure what I think of Ball.

I can't think of much that's on right now that I HAVE to watch. I like Lost and Heroes but I lost track of them and still have catching up to do.

I intend to watch True Blood, Veronica Mars and Supernatural soon though.

I tend to stick to what I like and rewatch them, most notably:

Buffy
Alias
Angel

They're pretty much fave shows. I love US teen dramas as well, I'm a real sucker for them. Dawson's Creek will remain a fave forever.

Oh, and I like a lot of British comedies.

Ahhh I forgot Dr Who and Torchwood, shame on me!

Yes Ghost Whisperer is just about still on in the UK. And Jill you really NEED to see True Blood (sw). And I am an Eliza fan too :) She is so darn hot!

actually on the topic of British comedies i do also enjoy Coupling.

i miss Veronica Mars, that was such a fun show to me Buffy and Angel too.

Ahhh I forgot Dr Who and Torchwood, shame on me!

how can you forget 2 of the BBC's best Scifi Shows. oh and Primeval too

I like Primeval!
I pretty much feel the same way with television shows. Right now there are just no shows I really HAVE to watch. I remember like being excited when my show was on whatever night of the week it was and getting ready to watch it and now, Television is losing it's magic. You can just Tivo it or watch online..

There are no shows that I watch that are putting out new episodes besides reality TV right now, so I pretty much just watch reruns of shows from the past including: Roseanne, The Golden Girls, Buffy, Charmed, ER, Judging Amy, etc.

However I watched the first season of True Blood religiously and Jill I think you would really like it. It's kind of scary, a little bit of camp thrown in with some sex. Also, if Jill was a character on True Blood she would most DEFINITELY be Tara! Her one liners are hilarious!

"School is where white people pay other white people to read to them. I KNOW how to read!" ;)

She is great!

I watched Grey's Anatomy but really what I like to do with this show and alot of others shows that I love and just lost touch with is to wait for the season to come out on DVD, I am such a collector of TV Shows on DVD that even if it's not my favorite it adds to my collection haha.

I am, like all of you, looking for another great show to watch.

I like Coupling, but they've lost Jeff now, and he was the funniest!

I think they're some really awesome comedies that have come out of Channel 4 recently, The Inbetweeners and Plus One being two that had me in stitches.

ok lets see hope i dont miss something

One Tree Hill
House
Fringe
Bones
Supernatural
Smallville
Ghost Whisperer
Eureka
Lost
Royal Pains
Burn Notice
Leverage

and older shows:
Buffy
Angel
Tru Calling
Charmed

Dark Blue is one I try to watch.. sometimes its difficult to find the time, but I like Dylan McDermott.

I usually just watch shows on DVD, lol.

But ones I'm watching on TV are:

Heroes (Because it's not good enough anymore to warrant a DVD purchase :p)
Dollhouse
One Tree Hill
Lost
Weeds
True Blood

The only show that I'm watching that is still going is How I Met Your Mother. Season 5 starts this month :D
But currently I am in a Buffy/Angel marathon, season 2 of Buffy.
I also watch Friends, Grounded For Life, and Freaks and Geeks.

I'm into so many TV shows it's not even funny. :D But I have a DVR in my room so it's extremely helpful and allows me to watch my shows at my convenience.

Some of my current obsess worthy shows are:

General Hospital [yes it's considered a show! :p]
Grey's Anatomy
Gossip Girl
Private Practice
One Tree Hill [although this season i'm really disappointed at Peyton and Lucas being gone...so I might not watch]
Heroes
Desperate Housewives
90210 [guilty pleasure lol]

And there are a few of the informitive/documentry/competition shows that i've really become obsessed with:

Man vs. Wild
Toddlers and Tiaras [the wack job mom's crack me up LOL]
Secret Lives of Woman
America's Next Top Model
So You Think You Can Dance

And i'm going to start watching Vampire Diaries, Melrose Place, and Flashforward....so we'll see how those pan out.

Told you I was a TV watching junkie. :sam:

Black King
Black King
Flashforward, i'm looking forward to too
