MTV revolutionized the way we thought of music videos, Michael Jackson and Madonna redefined "mini movie" with their music video contributions and sooo many artists have followed sense or blazed their own trails alongisde.

So many memorable images came across the screen and some were downright WEIRD...there have been many weird videos since that decade as well.

What music videos did you find to be just totally OUT there?

the first two that come to mind for me are:

Herbie Hancock- rock it
Madonna- Bedtime story
 
Nirvana "smells like teen spirit" the song and it's video to this day sound and look good but make absolutely no sense. check to lyrics to the song really.

Tori Amos has some weird shit lol. Most of which I can't even comprehend the meaning of. Or Bjork's stuff is bizarre too lol. I think NIN's "Closer" video was rather....strange lol or even Rob Zombie's stuff lol like "More human than human" or "Living dead girl." Anything from Marilyn Manson is just creepy and freaked out lol. Imogen Heap is strange too lol. Most of which I have to have my best friend decipher the music video's for Tori or Bjork because she's a crazed fan lol.
 
Oh that Michel Gondry Around the World video. It's sort of awesome though. :)

And did you actually put a Nirvana video on this list? Sacriledge man...
 
Missy Elliot- Da Rain

That was a nice, catchy song back in 1997, and even today its good to listen to, but the video? those outfits that she wore and the imagery? VERY weird lol
 
Smack My Bitch Up by Prodigy. It was an extremely weird, but kinda cool video. It was interesting to think the person throughout was a girl at the end.

Closer by Nine Inch Nails. Very weird and gross video. lol
 
there was another video that i saw a few years back..but it was "retro"...i cant remember the group or artist who did it but the video was called 'Fish heads'

it was the most bizarre (and a more than a little gross) video i'd ever seen...a video...about dead fish heads and the chorus , sung by "alvin & the chipmunks" style voices said:

"fish heads, fish heads, got to have them every day. fish heads, fish head, eat them up yum!"

the showed kids playing with dead fish, people dressing them up ..it was so weird and so gross lol.
 
I really don’t know any of the older music videos. In fact, I really don’t watch the new ones anymore. What brought me to replying on the thread was the freakish video my siblings were viewing some morning with that Rhiana girl in it. “Umbrella”? Okay, the thing starts out like ‘normal’, I suppose, but by the end she’s like covered in weirdo silver metallic liquid. I was frightened. But MORE frightened when I read this…

well dont look at me...i didnt make it up, someone ELSE did and MTV played it! :eek: i was rather dismayed when i watched the video but its like a bad traffic accident, you cant help BUT to look.
 
For interesting videos, anything Gnarls Barkley. "Crazy" is entirely animated inkblots, "Gone Daddy Gone" they are bugs, and there is one where they appear in history at different moments and it plays like a documentary. Check them out. Far out there, but VERY cool, IMHO.

Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden...That vid completely wigged me out. The "cheshire" smiles, and the girl spitting her ice cream all over herself...Things that make you go eew *shudders*
