In the most cruel attack on workers' rights/protections yet, the newly elected wisconsin governer is attempting to strip nearly all the unions representing public employees (including teachers, firefighters, police officers, state gov't workers etc) of their collective bargaining rights, as well as requiring them to pay more of the cost of their health benefits.

thats the BASIC story. IF it happens, other states will surely surely follow, including the one I'm in, where there are already rumblings of the legislature making moves to target teachers and their unions.

There's alot at stake here beside what we're seeing in the news.

many of the things we take for granted- 8 hr. workday, "the weekend", worker's compensation, unemployment benefits are ALL things that originated in Wisconsin...some of which came at the cost of people's lives.

I cant even begin to articulate how concerned and how much i disagree with this. attacking workers is NOT going to fix the budget. maybe the guy shouldve thought twice about giving his inside crew those fat bonuses which caused the state budget to become worse shape than what it was.

There's so much I could say in my opening thoughts but instead id rather you all comment because MOST of us have to work for a living and if you're a public sector employee like me, having the protection of a union does offer some piece of mind.
