That’s it for True Blood. Next season, the show’s seventh, will be its last. My beating, bloody heart goes out to you, True Blood fans. But hey, it could be worse. You have ten episodes left. It’s not like it’s Merlin. Look on the sunny side!
Or maybe that’s not a good thing to say about a vampire show…
The announcement comes from HBO Programming president Michael Lombardo, who said in a prepared statement:
“True Blood has been nothing short of a defining show for HBO. Alan Ball took the books by Charlaine Harris, assembled a brilliant cast led by the magnificent Anna Paquin in the role of Sookie Stackhouse, and crafted a show that has taken its many devoted fans on an unforgettable journey. Alan passed the baton to Brian Buckner, who led our fantastic writers and crew in crafting a spectacular sixth season, and he will lead us through the seventh and final season of this amazing show. Together with its legions of fans, it will be hard to say goodbye to the residents of Bon Temps, but I look forward to what promises to be a fantastic final chapter of this incredible show.”
So that’s it. Harris ended the book series a while back, so fans of HBO’s popular supernatural series will have naught to console themselves with but fanfic, Tumblr, and whatever movie Alexander Skarsgård strips down in next to console themselves.
Farewell, True Blood. I stopped watching you a few seasons ago, but seeing the end on the horizon might spur me to catch up. I’ll miss knowing that your delightful whacktastictude is still churning along out there in the universe. So here’s to you. Here’s to your abundance of soft-lit sex scenes and your werepanthers and your knowledge of exactly what you have in Eric Northman and your willingness to use it.
