The football player who has become as (if not moreso) popular & endearing for his dramatic, public displays of faith on the football field.

I find it all to be corny & "extra" myself.

If he were of muslim faith rather than christian, or any OTHER faith rather than christian, would his public displays of faith on the football field be so endearing, popular or even tolerated?

I'd like to think so, yes. Of course, and I may be wrong, I'm of the persuasion that in the general population, every faith is tolerated BUT the Christian faith. Not that I blame people, we [Christianity in general] have had a pretty shitty track record. But that's a different topic.

What coverage have you been watching? I don't Tebow's displays have been popular or endearing to people at all. All I've seen is him getting flack for it.

If anything, I think a non-Christian would get MORE leeway because there's such a thing about being "tolerant" that no one would dare say boo about it. But plenty of other players have said stuff about god, pray before game etc. Frankly, no one should care either way. It's not a crime - it might be odd, but it's not a crime. It's much better to have a guy like that than one who's out drinking & driving or getting arrested or raping cocktail waitresses.

I just think there are much better things out there to worry about that whether Tim Tebow thanks god for touchdowns or not.

I actually heard the topic this morning on "the takeaway", the NPR news program i listen to on the way to work. he's been quite popular lately (of course you know me...im NOT a sports person) & i happened to recall seeing a news/blog about him & his public displays of faith a week or so ago. this morning the topic of discussion on him was the very question i posed & some callers called in...one said "this is a ridiculous topic. Anyone remember Cassius Clay & his love of Islam?" & yet another caller said " no, he wouldn't b/c in america two numbers come to mind, 9/11" & it got heated from there.

well im in the buckle of "the bible belt" @ the moment & ppl down here seem to be thrilled about his displays of faith so maybe its not that big a deal up north or out west.
