The 25th anniversary of Thriller, the words best selling album, is aupon us... (goddess i feel OLD) and so, its time to discuss this and see if the album really is better with this redux treatment or if the original is better left alone.
here's a rundown on the project: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thriller_25
I've listened to "Wannbe starting something 2008" which features Akon (boo!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZAJ1R7sRR8A
and i thought it was horrid. I thought it sounded bland, boring and was hardly the dance floor packer that the original one was. i was just a little girl and i loved to dance out to this and i can remember teenagers and adults of all races dancing to this song (among others from the album) but this new version just SUCKS!
"Billie Jean 2008" was just as bad (imo). it was remixed by Kanye West. the slowed tempo, the extra beat....it didnt work. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M8Q-XDpQQ-M
This project to ME is coming off like that ill fated, Notorious B.I.G album, "Duets: The Final Chapter", which paired him with artists that he NEVER would have worked with in his prime. Why is MJ working with no talent hacks like Fergie? (she was so much better when she was with WILD ORCHID), will.I.am is hideous and cant sell records...his solo album prooved that and yet he's one of the prime collaborators on this project...and then you have misogynist and homophobe Akon along with Arrogant Asshole Kanye West.
these remixes sound dull, flat and poorly produced.
I dont understand why there was even a NEED to "remix" this album to "make it relevant for the generation today"...it was RELEVANT just as it was...and a modern classic! to me this seemed like a pitifull market ploy and while it has been gaining some notice on the international scene, i doubt it will make headway with the fickle minded children of today in america. there are kids now under 21 who dont even know the significance of Michael Jackson, Madonna or more importantly Aretha Franklin, The Jackson Five etc.
