Newsarama went and made a little list of all the books under each of the Big 2's summer crossovers and JESUS!
$378.78 gets you every issue, official and unofficial tie-ins for Secret Invasion
and
$135.08 to 317.56 depending on if you brought Countdown and Death of the New Gods from DC's Final Crisis

Thats just outrageous, is the cost of these summer events just sky rocketing each year? For anyone that wants to follow a story completely they're just stuck shelling out more and more for whats really just supposed to be a hobby. The full blame can't really be put on the companies because as much as fans complain too many tie-ins they also complain about too few. thoughts on the subject?

oh HELL no! that's a car note for some people, or more than half or someone's rent!

in my day (wow i feel old) of actively and regularly collecting comics the MOST i ever spent in one session for a crossover event was 20-25 bucks. The Inferno and all of its tie-ins combined did not cost that much!

that is just ridiculous. THAT is why I am not pressed about collecting many titles now. individual standard issues are 3 bucks a pop at LEAST.

comics arent that fun anymore imo. they cost too much, suffer from bad writing (and arrogant editors) and marginal artwork.

Where are you living and can i get a place? Meh i still find comics interesting and fun personally but that price tag is no joke.

I spend about $400 a month on comics. That online total includes monthlies, trades, hardcovers, etc. With the recent rise in prices, however, I'll probably have to cut back quite a bit in the coming months.

Most of the current "event" books aren't worth it. The last event that I actually enjoyed was Infinite Crisis, mini-event was Sinestro Corps War. Other than that, crossovers have been letting me down for years, especially the ones written by Bendis.
