LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The maids of "The Help" proved far mightier than muscle-flexing "Conan the Barbarian" and three other new releases at the weekend box office, taking the top spot with an estimated $20.5 million in U.S. and Canadian ticket sales.

Well, I'm a fan of Viola Davis ever since i saw her in "The andromeda strain" on Sci Fi, but I dont think I'll be seeing "The Help". It just seems kind of...tacky to make a film like this in this day & age to me. & as for 'Conan' it's another lousy remake so what did they expect? Although I read that Rose Mcgowan plays an evil sorceress in the film, which sounded interesting...but not interesting enough to pay $$ to see a film.

Arnold Schwarzenegger may be a scumbag but he's the only 'Conan' for me lol.

on Conan i will say the same thing i been saying "Who would have thought that Stargate Atlantis would have been anyone's starter show"

oh and speaking of the Help that movie has got no shot with everyone and their mother calling it racist at it's worst and insensitive at best its not making runaway buckets of cash

I liked Conan because A: Conan was hot. And B: it was battle-y and gory lol. But it's probably not one I would willingly watch again.

As for The Help, I don't think it was racist or insensitive at all. That's like calling a War World II movie insensitive because they're showcasing true life events that happened in history. The Help showed exactly what it was like for black people to live in the south in the 60's. The racism and segregation are very much apart of our American history, so how is it tacky to make a movie about the rise of civil rights in the eyes of not only black people, but a very open minded white girl who was their method of speaking out. And personally, I think it's great that they're making movies like this still because the youth of today are so desensitized by technology and television that maybe a movie like this can open their eyes to how it really used to be way before they were born. And regardless of whether you agree with the movie or not, the acting alone was fantastic and worth sitting down to watch the film.
