I must be the only one who gets tired of hearing people try to sound SOOOO reflective and SOOOO "gratefull" on this ONE day out of 365 days out of the year. This "holiday" celebrates what? exactly? the day when a bunch of lying, theiving, murdering, std carrying "pilgrims" landed at Plymouth Rock (ONLY because the mayflower was blown off course by a storm and motivated by their need to brew more beer- history is more than than the "doctored" crap you learn in highschool folks LOL) and decieved the native americans, stole their land and gave them diseases aplenty?
thanks but i'll pass. I have EVERY DAY to be thankfull for things and while i do appreciate the extra long holiday weekend and a chance to perhaps see family that i dont normally see, i get really irritated with how people want to get so DEEPLY religious and so "elevated" in their thinking for this ONE DAY...knowing full well that any other time of the year they'd be griping about shit and not being thankfull for the little things that make their life possible (like even waking up every day).
American history is full of shit, and holidays like THIS are one of them.
I havent made it a point to "celebrate thanksgiving" since I was in college and began to study REAL american history, and while i've gone to visit folks at their houses on some thanksgivings, ate a bit or socialized, i just treated as a gathering and did not get into the "spirit of thanksgiving".
What am I doing this year? absolutely nothing LOL. i'm not going out of town, im not going anywhere to see anyone, I'm staying HOME to relax and enjoy the day off- ill have some food that i made (hardly traditional thanksgiving food either lol) .
Some people are like "ohhh Farrah...are you sure you want to do that?" and i'm like "what makes this day ANY DIFFERENT than ANY OTHER day of the year?" i'm not going to die because i choose not to celebrate this holiday. Now "BLACK FRIDAY" is a different story
I love to go out shopping on this day...and i've been known to throw a few elbows in the stores to get people away from what i wanted LOL!
