Does anyone have any experience/advice on buying a new television? I'm in the market for a flat panel something, preferably HD. Hopefully a 32" but if I have to a 26". I'm looking to spend about $500. Anyone have tips? My father keeps saying to me "The way the economy is now...you can bargain with the stores." But I'm not sure I believe him lol.

im going out to buy one just like that myself but spending $500? girl please. you can find one for UNDER 500...even as low as $399 in some cases and i'm going to super walmart to buy mine. the VSIO (sp?) brand. several people i know have one and with my getting ready to move to a new apt. now is the perfect time for me to get one.

Well 500 is really my max lol - of course less is better ;) The Walmart near me is so ghetto lol, I think I'll check the website ;)

I was shopping around for one too a few months ago and they had some really inexpensive ones at Walmart. There was a 19 inch for less than 250, so i'm sure you can find a 32 inch for less than 500.

If not Walmart, try Target. They're a little more on the expensive side, but sometimes [like recently at the Target near me] they have huge sales to try to sell the TV's they have left on the shelf before they restock. So you can get a good deal. :)

Try this.

It is 32", flat panel, up to 1080i, built-in DVD player. You will probably need an HDMI cable for optimal picture, which is about another $20 bucks. If you have a good DVD player or a XBox 360 (which plays DVDs of course), you can get the model without it and save $60.

i think Target or Walmart has the best deal for your money especially if you wait for them to have a sale. Last TV i brought was 19" for only $85 when i got it.

Heres some things to keep in mind, I recently bought me a flat panel tv..

1080p and 1080i are DIFFERENT.... 1080p is the superior of the two, however any tv less than 50-some inches isn't going to give you the full 1080p experience.

Another thing to consider is the Contrast Ratio. The greater the ratio, the better picture quality you will have. My tv is 42' with a 10,000:1 contrast ratio. Some TVs even the larger ones are only like 700:1, so be careful... if the ratio isn't printed on the information card be sure to ask.

Make sure your tv has a BUILT IN digital converter box thingie, otherwise your nice, wonderful HDTV can't display the HD without an external box.... fun fun fun, so make sure you have a tv that has one built in..... most do now-a-days I think, but still best to make sure.

Yep, that's good advice. Also check Sam's and Best Buy. Those seem to have consistently loe proces and fairly good selections. The folks at Best Buy will be the most knowledgable.
