Do you feel the need to keep up w/ the absolute latest phones, computers, etc.?

Personally I don't. Now I'm not saying I use stuff from the 90s or anything like that lol but i think its outrageous how when a new iphone comes out it costs over $300 & ppl will line up for that! i have enough bills to pay & i personally like to keep my wardrobe up to date & spending 300 on a fucking phone is not the way to do that. then of course the phone BILL for a phone like that is nearly 200 a month. thats crazy to me.

I know stuff will wear out & need to be replaced, but i'd rather spend $ on a good investment when it comes to a phone or laptop that will last a while & allow me to take care of it & upgrade the tech instead of having to shell out hundreds of $ every year just b/c something new comes out.

No. I don't feel the need to keep up with the latest technological doodad either [until my cell phone provider sends me a text saying I qualify for a free upgrade :hehe: ]

LOL! free upgrades are always nice.
I've a technical interest in new gadget. So in some ways I like to keep up.
New platforms and technologies is kind of a hobby. Mostly stuff you can program in any way though.

As an example. The only reason I bought an iPhone was because I wanted to see how to make apps to it.
Was close to buy an android phone for the same reason. I realised that I wouldn't have time to learn it anyway so I haven't yet though. Still interested in it so I will probably get one soon.

For actually calling I'm still using my old Sony Ericsson phone... :)

wow so you're a programmer of sorts? sounds like you can understand these gadgets.
No i don't have to have cutting egde tech, i had to buy a new cellphone since the old one got water damaged, but i actually went for a LG phone, since it was way cheaper than Samsung or Apple. but still almost the same spec's.

My current laptop is a little over 2 years old, as long as it works good i will hang on to it, it has atleast another year, maybe even 2 years.

SiD, I love LG products. Every phone I've had since 2005 has been an LG phone w/out fail & they last for YEARS @ a time if you take care of them. The phone I had from 2008-2011 literally fell apart b/c it was old & so I had to replace it but I took good care of it all those years.

I'm not particular crazy about keeping my hardware up to date (like ridiculous so) but i do have the crazy about keeping software on the bleeding edge. I have Jelly Bean (4.2.1) running on my HTC Incredible, my preferred browser is Firefox Nightly.

So I don't need the latest chipsets as long as i can get all the newest features on my old stuff :) (which i feel is really good way to keep and use your gadgets)

I like to know about the newest stuff, and would love to buy them all, but I don't because I am not a gazillionaire lol

Too a point yes.

I'm of the generation that spent first and saved later. There is no good reason to want the latest items other than the fact that I'm conditioned to this. The longest I've ever owned a mobile (cell ) phone was 18 -24 months, which was painful. About 14 months in I was considering paying off the remainder of the contract so I could upgrade.

However, too a point no.

The attitude is so wasteful and now the Country is in a recession and we are seeing/feeling our true wealth, obtaining the very best of everything has changed, in fact consumerism in the UK has changed.

While a mobile phone is a relatively cheap outlay for me, I wouldn't apply the same obnoxious logic to say a car or my TV (honestly, the rate and reasons people replace TVs these days is ridiculous - time was a TV was a 10 year purchase and even then, when it broke you got a guy round to repair it). Even my PC is a five year project and then it'll probably get a motherboard/processor upgrade - which to mean signals new PC.

So a little from column A and a little from column B I guess.
