So the GOP & Tea Party have been pushing to place the burden and responsibility of "fixing the budget deficit" on fed and state gov't employee's backs. even though top economists (including a former economic advisor from Ronald Reagan's cabinet) have repeatedly said cutting gov't employee jobs, reducing or stripping their benefits etc would only acct. for 1 maybe 2% of the deficit!

Still, that has not stopped the Tea Party elected governers in several states from going after gov't employees in a most agressive and cruel way. the biggest example is what's happening in Wisconsin

Its very upsetting to ME because I AM a gov't employee. I am modestly paid, and my benefits do not come cheap. I work hard and I think its terrible that these politicians want to use us as targets/scapegoats and worse that people are buying into this!

If they had their way, 100,000s more people would swell the already large and growing ranks of the unemployed.

This isnt the answer...it isnt even a fraction of a real solution but once again the GOP and moreso the Tea Party are attacking WORKING PEOPLE while they protect big business, corporate interests etc.

What do you think about all this? are there any other gov't employees on the board?

I am private sector. I think it is ridiculous because the REAL culprits of essentially all this mess lie in three places:

1) Deregulation of Banks and lack of oversight of Financial Institutions, combined with the bailouts and the fact that NONE of that money was targeted to fix bad loans or loans to businesses/individuals. Most of it was pocketed to fix balance sheets or used in other ways to make cash, damn the economy.

2) HUGE Tax Cuts to the wealthy in the name of the economy...that cash ALWAYS gets pocketed (as it was here in this case), and it cost us nearly a trillion dollars.

3) The LOOOONG Wars that drained TRILLIONS in cash from the economy.

Without those three factors, the government is FLUSH with post-Clinton and post-robust economy cash and we simply spend our way out of this mess.

So when some Republicans point to government employees, I simply laugh. There are overpaid government employees, but you ill never see their pay or benefits challenged. They are the "advisors", "consultants", guys behind the scenes who walk away with obscene money while the teachers and policemen and firefighters and service people take it in the ass.

But you gotta pay the bills somehow, and the VOTERS asked for this. Enjoy.
