For me, this is the moment when the Supreme Court lost the status as the one remaining respectable branch of our gov't.

Bush certainly knew what he was doing when he appointed the justices he did to really cause a shift in the face/behavior of the justice roster and now, more than ever they lean far right and it's showing.

this particular ruling has stacked the deck in the gop/tea party's favor for an indefinite amount of time and it just seems irresponsible! no matter which side you're on!

now, more than ever, our elections will be BOUGHT. the midterms of 2010 showed us that.

What are your thoughts?

4 Liberals and 5 super-conservatives = Conservative Court

The fact that Clarence Thomas is there is a daily affront for me.

well im not sure Ms. Sotomyer (sp?) OR Ms. Kagan would qualify as liberal. Honestly neither one of them seems like they'll ever stack up to Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. She was moderate with left leanings...but mainly moderate. id rather see a majority moderate roster than what we have now.

meanwhile- does anybody have any thoughts on that actual ruling and what it means overall for future elections?

Yeah, and if it was the other way around you'd be calling this a victory for free speech.

Agreed. Money is not speech. I have money in my pocket now and it has never spoken to me.

The ruling is a victory for the very rich at the expense of the rest of us.

i mean it changes EVERYTHING...probably for the rest of our lifetimes! now there's NO LIMIT to how much a corporation can fund any given candidate's election run. it was already lopsided to begin with. the ONLY big spenders on the left/liberal/moderate side are UNIONS (AFSCME & three others specifically) and they didnt have the same $$ power that companies on the RIGHT did. Post this ruling....of the four that were there...2 were blown away.

this stacks the deck in favor of the gop/tea party from here on with an INSANE amount of $$ to saturate the gullible public with whatever they want.

you know i honestly forget he's still alive at times, apparently its been about 5 years since he has even spoken in session, everyone says he's there just taking up space.

he hasnt spoken because he's as corrupt as they come. half the cases he's sat on he shouldve recused himself due to financial involvement etc. the guy's a womanizing scumbag and a complete asshole.
