Stars from the big (& small screen) coming out. Usually it's people who were once white hot famous for a certain movie or project & then years later, they "come out" as gay or lesbian.

Do you think its an attempt to grab a headline or publicity after years being out of the spotlight?

I don't have a problem w/ any actor or actress choosing to come out. In fact I've often said more male stars, especially in the music biz, should do it b/c everytime a woman does it, no one seems to bat an eye due to how lesbians & [faux] bi-sexuality are so celebrated in this country.

Has there been any actor/actress that came out that actually surprised you?

For me, when Richard Chamberlin (star of the memorable tv mini series, "The Thornbirds") came out (over 20 years after the film), that was kind of surprising. I'm sure there were alot of older women who were devastated b/c he WAS handsome in the film lol. I was also surprised by rapper Mystikal seeming to imply he was gay. It's VERY RARE to see men, let alone men in the music/hiphop industry to admit to such a thing.

I don't really follow celebrity news but i'm sure there are some that see it as their last chance at fame but i still think that it's good that there are role models for young gay men and women.

I think the last person i heard coming out was Zachary Quinto of Heroes and Star Trek fame

Sheryl Swoopes (hall-of-fame women's basketball player for the WNBA Houston Comets) was the most surprising to me, especially since she was recently divorced and had a son (Jordan, named after THE Michael Jordan). And it raised eyebrows as her lover was a former COACH of hers with the Comets!!!

She is now NOT a lesbian and dating a man...go figure.

I've heard of her. when the WNBA got off the ground, Detroit had a team, the Detroit Dazzlers (loved that name) & later the Detroit Shock.

as for Sheryl, sounds like she "Anne Heche'ed"...its a joke referring to Anne Heche, who @ one point was a lesbian & even 'married' to Ellen Degeneres but then suddenly was hetero again. @ the time, it was so 'shocking' & ppl began to use her as a reference/"VERB" to describe others who were gay one moment & hetero the next.

I think a lot of times it is a publicity ploy - not that they aren't gay necessarily, but it gets their name in the headlines. I don't really care either way and I'm not sure it's really news lol

Some, like Rickey Martin & Neil Patrick Harris are SO TOTALLY obvious publicity ploys. I mean...who DIDN'T know or suspect either of those two LOL!

Jodie Foster too.

I feel like NPH was the one that felt LEAST like a publicity stunt, because he was so popular at the time he came out. *shrugs*

I get the feeling that once you get THAT rich and famous, you get the freedom to try stuff most of us regular folks do not. In a situation like that, you probably find a lot of people that are bisexual IMO.

Zachary Quinto was surprising to me.

As well as Portia de Rossi. She played a 'maneater' on Ally McBeal so extremely well that when I read that she was dating Ellen DeGeneres [way back when], I was shocked.

Portia was unexpected to me as well. I remember her in Scream 2 (w/ those ugly ass thick eyebrows wow!) & then Ally McBeal & I just never thought about that possibility w/ her.

Now she & Ellen are married...have been for a while now I think but its interesting you don't see her out much & Ellen doesnt speak on her much either.
