Some Companies Can Refuse To Cover Contraception, Supreme Court Says : The Two-Way : NPR

--------------------

IMO, this was ridiculous & it sets a BAD precedent. Now the flood gates are wide open for companies ("closely held" my ASS  ) to register extreme claims. DISCRIMINATION is about to get a free pass under the disguise of "religious objection". Today's contraception, tommorow itll be race, GENDER, sexual orientation or something else.

This SCOTUS is NO friend or protector of REAL people. They instead reinforce their loyalty to "Corporate personhood"

Your thoughts?

Things in America which are recognized as people:
Corporations
fetuses

things not recognized as people:
women

Yeah..if i ponder the scotus' "logic" on THAT...i get a true headache -_-
as i said else where my religion forbids excessive social inequality and extreme social stratification where’s my supreme court decision for that?

I kind of agree with this decision. Not because I agree with Hobby Lobby's belief but because I think it's ridiculous to expect your employer to provide contraceptives for you.

Personally, I can't imagine going to my boss and asking for birth control. My sex life is none of my employer's business so there's no way I'd ever ask for birth control from them. NO WAY.

Or am I reading this wrong? :sure:

You are absolutely right. I find THIS to be disgusting:

Religious leaders want exemption from hiring LGBT people after Hobby Lobby ruling - Washington Times

That's not the problem De. You don't go to your boss with your medical needs. You go see a doctor with the insurance provided by your employer that YOU pay for anyway out of your paycheck. This has SWEEPING implications. It opens the door for employers to determine your medical choices based on their personal/religious view of your lifestyle. What's to stop employers from denying coverage for employees who have HIV or AIDS? What this does is allow your employer to have authority OVER your BODY. Not to mention there are COUNTLESS reasons that women take birth control. Not to mention that if aan wants to have a vasectomy, that's covered and is that NOT the same thing as birth control?!

I hate that when we make such strides in one area (like all the LGBTQ victories we've had this last year) the other stuff falls apart. This is a HUGE back peddle in women's rights and I'm afraid that until this ruling effects MEN nothing will be done about it :(

THAT is the thinking Hobby Lobby was COUNTING on ppl having in order to make their "claim" seem legitimate but actually that's not the case @ all.

This DOES have WIDE REACHING implications, which are already starting to manifest themselves. This descision was , by far, one of the most ABSURD & DANGEROUS from this SCOTUS.

& curiously, Hobby Lobby did NOT take "religious objection" to having to cover vasectomy procedures OR VIAGRA! tell me AGAIN how this descision (handed down from the 5 male conservatives on the court, 4 of whom are white 1 of whom is a RABID homophobe & another is a misogynist)

Speaking of that...

Today it's contraception, tommorow itll be race, gender, sexual orientation; the day after that itll be ppl w/ HIV /AIDS (b/c according to christians in america THAT is "god's punishment to the gays" )....

& let's not talk about how this descision reaffirms & embolden's companies already benefiting from the ridiculous notion of "corporate personhood"...now companies have more rights than actualy PEOPLE. this SCOTUS is pushing us closer & closer to a country where our government is a corporate owned subsidiary rather than an actual government. either THAT or a THEOCRACY

As a father of a young girl I find this to be a frightening ruling. I have dated women who were devastated by pain during menstruation; contraception saved their lives in terms of employment, life enjoyment, even emotional well-being due to the hormone therapy it provides.

Now women have to worry about what insurance is offered BEFORE taking a job. Normally you take the job and trust that the insurance is adequate.

I am awaiting a major boycott of Hobby Lobby by women, especially since they make up the majority of shoppers there.

And Hobby Lobby has a LOT less religious support than it thinks.

Clergy Pass Out Condoms at Hobby Lobby in Protest

Clearly I read it wrong. I can admit that.

Not ALL Christians believe that.

I'm a strong Christian, it's true. But I don't believe that HIV/AIDS is "God's punishment to the gays". Come on, that's just ridiculous. That's like saying that I have a kidney condition because I have sin in my life. I also don't believe that contraceptives induce abortions. It prevents pregnancy, and while I can understand why some people think they induce abortions, for the most part I think that's a load of bull. I used to say I'm pro-life but in extreme situations I do agree that pregnancies should be terminated [if a mother was in dire health and it's a matter of saving the mother or the baby, rape, etc, etc] so I guess I'm pro-choice in that respect.

It kind of offends me when people lump every Christian on the planet in with those crazy ass religious freaks [think the Westboro Baptist church]. I don't believe in religion. At all. Religion is just a bunch of man-made laws and regulations. I will admit that Christianity as a whole has a tarnished reputation. We have made a lot of mistakes. I can admit that too.

What Brandon said makes a lot of sense. When I first heard about it, I didn't understand - obviously :haha: - but now it makes a ton of sense [I don't really like articles where they use big words and legal jargon where you have no clue what they are really saying]. :)

That's why I specified "in America". You're ALSO in Canada which, as far as I can tell, tends to be a little more RATIONAL about these things than America. ;)
