Apparently, the only person who thinks actress Rose McGowan can pull off the lead in Robert Rodriguez’s upcoming remake of Barbarella is Robert Rodriguez.

The NY Observer is reporting that Universal Studios has backed out of the film as a result of McGowan’s casting and Rodriguez is now forced to shop it to independent financial backers to raise the budget.

Of course, Rodriguez denies that casting his girlfriend had anything to do with Universal bailing the film and insists that they were thrilled with her screen-test. He says it’s all about the Benjamins.

“Universal had initially signed on for $60 million,” says Rodriguez. “But then when we were done with the script it wound up at closer to $82 million.”

Regarding the casting, he says Universal were “blown over” with McGowan’s screen test. “They said, ‘What are we looking at?’ She looks fantastic in the role. She was perfect for this part. She just has that daring look, a sort of classic sexiness that is also kind of futuristic.”

But not everyone is so happy…

“It’s sort of embarrassing for everyone involved,” counters an insider close to the film. “No one thinks Rose can carry the movie, but Robert won’t listen.”

That’s because Robert is too busy listening to the deafening roar his penis is making….’cause his penis really wants McGowan in the lead.

This made me LOL, nothing like being told flat out your girlfriend is going to ruin the movie.

Aren't they supposedly engaged now? Eh, either way, I can't wait to see if the movie tanks. LOL

With the hype this is getting it better be Oscar-worthy or her carrier and this movie is going to go down in flames.:elaugh:

Rose has that "quality" that i think would allow her to play "Barbarella" as long as they dont try to make the movie more than what it was....sexy sci fi fantasy. it was adapted from an erotic french comic and the movie, while "eyebrow raising" at the time it was released was still TAME by the comic book's standard. they'll probably try to bring MORE of the comic into the remake and ruin the film by making it something more than it was meant to be BUT as for Rose herself? she's a talented actress...its not her fault that her boyfriend's list directorial effort made him look incompetent lol. She's prooven herself in many films before Planet Terror.
