[FONT=arial,helvetica][SIZE=-1]Rocker-turned-filmmaker Rob Zombie is resurrecting Michael Myers, one of the big screen's favorite horror villains.

Zombie will write and direct a new "Halloween" movie, serving up what is being called as a brand-new vision for the long-running horror series. He will also serve as a producer and a music supervisor on the film. An October 2007 release is being planned. Disney's Miramax Films will co-finance the development with former Miramax chiefs Bob and Harvey Weinstein's Dimension Films.
The movie will not be a sequel or a straight-ahead remake of the 1978 original -- which helped director John Carpenter cement his name in the horror business -- but a reimagining that will infuse new blood into the Myers story. "The look and the feel is going to be completely different," Zombie said in an interview. "'Halloween' started off as a very terrifying concept, a terrifying movie. But over the years, Michael Myers has become a friendly Halloween mask. When it came to the point where you could buy a Michael Myers doll that was cute-looking and press its stomach and play the 'Halloween' theme, you knew the scare factor was gone."
"But I think the story and the situation is scary. All it needed was someone to come in and to take a totally different approach to make it scary again. To me, that's the challenge and that's the fun."
Needless to say, the movie will not pay heed to the numerous sequels. The last Halloween film, "Halloween: H20," came out in 1998.
"Everything that has come before does not figure into this one," Zombie said. "That series is done." And while Zombie aims to keep the scares and the character more real, the mask will remain. "That's an iconic image that can't go away," he said.

Zombie wrote and directed "House of 1000 Corpses" and last year's "The Devil's Rejects," which proved to be extremely profitable theatrically and on DVD. A lot of horror movies have been thrown his way, but he wanted to be choosy when it came to his third film.
Zombie is a fan of the original and said he sought Carpenter's blessing.
"He said, 'That's awesome, go for it,"' Zombie said. "He was very supportive, which I thought was very important. I feel like 'Halloween' is his baby, and I wanted to be very respectful."

Niice. I love Rob Zombie so this should be interesting to see how he puts a spin to the film. Hopefully it doesn't turn out lame.

I agree, it will definitely be interesting to see what Rob Zombie will do with it, I generally like his work, or at least am entertained by it. Last he did Devi's Rejects I think and that was definitely an entertaining movie. And if there is anything that needs a revamp in Hollywood its the horror movie, especially the horror sequels. Although, they could just stop making bad sequels altogether...nah, they make me laugh.

as far as im concerned..Halloween without Jamie Lee Curtis is GARBAGE..just look at seques 3 thru 6? notice Jamie Lee didnt come back for "Halloween 7"...she came back for Halloween H20 which was a 20th anniversary nod to the original two.

for Rob Zombie to DISMISS H20 and to say that the story of Laurie Strode is "over"...shows that he doesnt get the original concept of the film. John Carpenter didnt have anything to do with the sequels (3 thru 6) ...and so can understand why he'd b e weary of the Halloween franchise..its been taken places it never should have been.

the last one, Halloween: Resurrection was only worth watching for the 5-10 minutes that Jamie Lee Curtis was in it...after that, it SUCKED.

and as for Rob Zombies other films. I wouldnt call them "horror" (especially "The devil's rejects") i would call those an ASSAULT on a film goer's psyche. they were vulgar, crude and GROSS.

There's only one thing I like Rob for, his music! And I think he should stick to music, not movies. As Farrah already argued they were lame, gross, and wrong. I saw the first film he made and I couldn't watch it all the way through, it was that bad!

I think he'll destroy the whole legacy all together, even if its a different storyline, etc. He's still using the same mask that sent chills and crept fears into most people, including myself.

I think this is a bad call on his part, but who knows maybe it'll be decent. What more can you add though? lol A long lost twin brother? LOL. :D

the mask...or rather "The shape" terrified a DIFFERENT generation of people though. these kids today dont appreciate the impact that the original two Halloween movies had..nor do they understand the significance of H20 and why its NOT merely "halloween 7"

further more John Carpenter and Debra Hill came together to make lightning strike with the original film. Debra has passed away :( and John is not really making as good of a product as he used to.....i just dont think Rob Zombie can pull it off. The Fog remake was garbage and i'm willing to bet the Omen will be as well and even though its "not supposed to be a straight ahead remake"...what ELSE ..what OTHER ANGLE could Zombie explore with the Halloween mythos?

outside of Halloween 1,2 and H20.....the other four sequels were just GARBAGE...and they attempted to focus solely on Michael Myers rather than the battle between Michael Meyers AND Laurie Strode.

I think there's some potential with this. Rob Zombie can do the genre pretty well, at least better then some folks these days. And to really be something worth watching, it's at a point that it has to be redone, imo. The problem with focusing on Michael Myers and the focus they gave him was that they kept the same old portrayal...the same old way out-dated portrayal. Just some guy in a mask taking out people just isn't going to cut it, no matter who's in it..Jamie Lee Curtis or otherwise. It's obvious Zombie knows it, and will hopefully come up with something solid. Might as well wait and see what develops before passing off any judgements.

I quite liked Halloween 1, 2 and 4. The rest? Total and utter trash, including H20 (which the article got wrong, it wasn't the last Halloween, there was an 8th one). I actually remember reading some Halloween backstory in comics that went into the old Witch Trials. Personally, if they're doing one, I'd like to see something along those lines. Can't beat an ol' witchy tale. :p
