I read an article in a Norwegian newspaper today, about the consumption here in Norway and how it has quadrupled over the last three generations.

It's not unusual to read about this, especially during holiday seasons.
Usually these articles have a negative angle, but should we go back to the "good old days"?
After reading i start to think of myself, and whether i am one of those who consumes more than what seems necessary, but should i really feel guilty about this?
I try my best to support brands and companies who are fair employers both for working condition and in terms of salary.

It seems to me that the increased consumption also means that more jobs will be generated.

And if we slowed down our consumption, i would think it would have a negative effect on the number of jobs available.

I am sure this is more complicated than this.
What do you think?

Articles like that are hard to really contextualize since sometimes they don't use the data and stats they present properly. Is the consumption rate on an absolute scale? Does it take into account population growth or the distribution of food. Consumption can mean anything.

& speaking of data, BK. there's a growing trend, especially w/ companies & even gov't & law enforcement in the US to simply go by raw data & stats & using them numbers as "absolute" whether its for justification of draconian employment practices (including "metrics") or the passing of legislation or the of questionable technology in the name of "security."

ive also been reading/hearing more about the rise of consumption & demand in more countries in the eastern hemisphere, most reference the fact that "as countries &/or their populations experience a boom in wealth..."

its ironic, as the US is on a decline (whether we want to admit it or not) that all these other countries are rushing into patterns of behavior that we were once often criticized for. CHINA is especially notorious for this.
