Resident Evil: Apocalypse

Really i always thought in terms of quality the second was a little better. Its not really a great movie its more of a popcorn movie, just something to watch. Lots of nice action and big picture sequences.

Well I think the second half got better, and the ending was pretty cool. I just liked the characters from the first one better I think, and they had better interaction.

:)

Yeah thats true the interactions in the first were far better. Apocalypse they just went with straight action driven. I liked the Raccoon City setting better than the abandon lab from the first. i think the giant city of dead just works better for the survival horror genre.

the first RE movie was the little engine that could. no one thought it would succeed but it did very well. Apocolypse seemed bloated though. the problem is that Apocolypse borrowed elements from several installments of the RE games but it was all so loosely based...AND "Alice", the central protagonist in the RE movies does not exist ANYWHERE in the RE game universe. JILL VALENTINE, however is an important and long running character in the RE game franchise (she's returning in Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles).

Jill was second bananna to Alice and while she MORE than held her own (and casting Sienna Guilroy was the perfect choice for Jill ...even the outfit was loyal to her look from RE 3) I felt that she shouldve been the focus in the RE films and Alice shouldve been a "second in command" type of character.

George Romero initially made a screen play for the original RE movie which would have featured Jill as the star but it was scrapped.

in Apocolypse, Alice seemed BORED...hardly worried or showing any urgency.

I'm mad as HELL that Jill wont be returning in the upcoming Resident Evil Extinction movie. (see the Resident Evil: Extinction thread in "The buzz" forum)

I liked both films immensely even though I never played the video games. The first film was suspenseful, a pretty good cast, and the plot was cool. I liked Rain's character and I enjoyed seeing Michelle as a zombie. But, I was disappointed when she was killed off. The creature effects and graphics for the 'Licker' was cool though. It had plenty of twists and turns.

I have to admit though I did like the second film just a bit more. The opening scene was action packed with Jill Valentine assessing the situation. Even the Cathedral scene was awesome with Alice blasting through on a motorcycle lol. I actually enjoyed Alice more in the second film. She was more of a powerhouse player than in the first film, she was trying to find her ground and recall who she was.

I also liked the city setting just a bit more than the underground lab. But, the lab setting was creepy for the fact that if they didn't get out in time they would be locked down there with zombies. The second film dropped an hydrogen bomb (I think it was) and devastated the whole city.

But, at the same time you have to give credit to the first film, which started it all. It introduced viewers to characters, villains, settings, etc. So, I think the first film definitely played a huge part putting Resident Evil on the map.

I felt more comfortable with the second film though. I already knew some of the characters, I knew the history. Compared to the first film where the viewer is just introduced to everything.

the second film was based more on the video game Resident Evil 3: Nemesis hence the focus on Raccoon City and the creature "Nemesis". I think its unfortunate though that Jill will not be seen again in the upcoming RE film. She's centreal to RE in the game franchise and without the game there would be no movies (or novels). RE has been out since 1996, originally released on play station and was revamped to GLORIOUS new heights by Capcom several years later. It was followed by Resident Evil 2 , Resident Evil 0 (which served as a prequel to the events in 1 and 2) , Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, Resident evil 4 (which totally breaks off from the traditional resident evil mythos and was by far my least favorite) there was also Resident Evil: Outbreak which i think YOU would enjoy Heather because it had several mini games within the game that focused on other view points of the virus outbreak in raccoon city its similar to the six in some of its plot lines and such. Resident evil 5 is coming out which will connect to the original RE games (1, 2, 0 and 3) and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles is coming out soon as well which will feature Jill Valentine again.

The first Resident Evil movie was very good because it performed well beyond anyone's expectation..even I as a player of the games thought the movie was well done though its clear that (like the X-men films) they had to make something that ANYONE could get into. there are alot of elements in various installments of the RE games that are mixed in the movies thus far and the third film will be no different in that respect.

that was a nuclear "air to ground" thermal detonator (as i remember it being called) that they unleashed on Raccoon City at the end of Apocolypse...it happens similarly in the video game Resident Evil: Nemesis.

the whole story of Resident Evil is quite intriguing and served as some of the inspiration for the earlier storylines in THE SIX.
