3 things.
First, the dirty little secret of this country is that young girls often sleep with grown men. That is the absolute truth and has been the truth for forever. That is the real reason why no one gives a damn. It is not race because if it was then Elvis would have gone to jail back in the day. Same with Jerry Lee Lewis.
Second, he was acquitted the only time he went to trial. I am not comfortable calling someone a name of something that he (or she) has not been convicted of. I can say for certain that I am not alone in that, and especially among a community of people who see people get railroaded every day by the justice system.
Last but not least, people have been cashing in on this for some time. At some point I run out of sympathy when you take a few thou over prosecuting an alleged rapist if it is your child. I hear about intimidation but Kelly is hardly the mob. He is a singer that Chicago has wanted behind bars for some time. I become skeptical when not ONE charge sticks when there is so much 'evidence'.
I am a fan. I like his music. But he could not get anywhere near my daughter or nieces or cousins. I do not trust him like that. But it is not fair in my opinion to substitute our own justice for the system we have.
As for Aaliyah's mother, I cannot help but imagine how heartbroken she must be, but Aaliyah was a music and movie star whose star was rising when she died and hardly symptomatic of someone whose life was ruined by what transpired between her and Kelly. That quote sounds like a mom grieving more than a fact I can trust about her life and how it was affected. I have been around people who are grieving long term and they often lay blame, even at sources that have no role in the death.
