Hey all :) I thought I would ask you guys this, since you all have experience in this area.

Over at BB, our (traditional) RPGs have pretty much died. We also have a battle RPG (like the old ADA-FGB) that we set up like in 2002 but never launched. There's also a chat RPG in the works.

My question for you guys, since you have experience with all these types, is what is the best way for us to reboot our RPG program? Scrap the traditional ones, reboot them with new people, just focus on the battle RPG...?

Any insight you guys can give would be greatly appreciated :)

Maybe you should just scrap the traditional ones and recreate new ones, open a new casting process and such.. bring new life to it?

I would focus on the Battle RPG too because I think that gives alot of people more incentive to come to the board..

I know I always enjoyed a good battle RPG but those are hard to keep afloat unless you have the right people and one that is diverse enough for the Buffyverse ya know..

Eh what I do I know.. i'm a fool haha. Ask Farrah, she's the queen!

well remember, it seems that "traditional" (aka fgb vs ada ) style rpgs have pretty much died everywhere from what we've seen. I personally would never go back to that format.

I've only done ONE chat rpg and that was with Heather and her crew on AOL a few years ago and i didnt care for that myself but i know other people like it.

I think what we're doing here in the Six is special because I was able to gather some of the best players i've ever played with (most of whom were friends of mine before this board opened :) ) and because we all know each other, and have had previous rpg experience from other boards etc...we were able to get into this easily.

your board is much larger than this one and so i think a battle rpg would probably be better for your board. but you'd need key people who are REALLY into that to help push it to the board members. like anything ELSE about a board...you can make it as visually appealing as you want, promote it and all that but its the members who will make it succeed or fail.

what have your members said about the rpg program so far?

Not much really. It seems like we get some people who only want to play ONE CERTAIN CHARACTER and if that one's not available all they do is ask for a new RPG. People do seem to sign up but then interest fades. I think it's because we don't have someone who keeps it going during the slow times.

i saw something like that on Marvel Directory, where all these stupid boys wanted to be Wolverine and if they couldnt...then they wouldnt play. Either that or the "GM" (Game Master as they called it) wanted final approval on every post and was very micromanaging.

I think its going to be very key that people who want to devote time to the promoting/recruiting players/maintaining the RPG should be involved from the ground up. but in the end, its the members who will keep it going or not and if you guys do all you can do and they dont take advantage of it, then its their fault, not yours.

An RPG should be pulling you along, there is little you can do to "make' it work.

Saying that, one idea might be to set up a universe of sorts and see if people would be interested.

Maybe set up "types" of characters with a certain range or strength of powers that you approve and see if you get interest, start small and build over time.

Since it is BB, I would suggest a vampire-based RPG where you have a small group of "hunters" or whatever Buffy, et al was (plus maybe something else if they get the power levels right) and then give them supernatural challenges in unique settings. You can do a LOT with just that.

Something that might work Vil for BB is a battle based RPG is have one side as Potentials and witches and just all around good people I guess? and the other sides as Vamps and Demons, that might work well..

yes i was going to say, garricks idea would be good but the need for "potentials" and witches as character types is a must. being that one of Buffy's most popular character's is a witch and Faith lead an army of "potentials".

but im just adding that to Brandon and Garrick's statements.

I still stick with my own personal feeling that i'd never want to go back to a board wide rpg.

if some of your board members are as sensitive as they are in the one thread I appeared in, i can imagine how much they'd complain about an rpg and every inane detail. it'd be another heartache you dont need or deserve.

We actually have a battle RPG all set up and ready to go, we just never actually started it.
