So many of you may be aware of this unfolding scandal. President Obama's trip to the Summit of the Americas has been overshadowed by the foolish behavior of his Secret Service, the Counter Assault team, which is the ELITE of the secret service.

U.S. News - NBC: Prostitute's $50 fee for two agents triggered Secret Service scandal

--------------------------

So a few things come to mind here.

1) why didnt the idiots just PAY the woman? I mean hell...she was incredibly CHEAP (no pun intended) & given that this IS the oldest profession in the world...men should know when you solicit a prostitute, you have to PAY for services rendered  If they had just paid her & sent her on her way...this might not ever have become the issue it is now.

2) Why IS prostitution such an issue for some ppl? I havent declared MY feelings on it yet, but i'm just wondering what some of you think? Can morals/religion be used as an argument? what if someone doesnt believe/follow the same religion as you or has a different moral code than you?

3) this could have been a very bad situation. havent these men ever heard of Mata Hari? :sure: I feel like this was very sloppy & stupid & they should all be fired.

I think prostitution should be legal, and run similar to how it is in Firefly - I genuinely mean that, it puts forward a really good view of how prostitution could be a positive.

legalizing it & regulating it would go a long way in protecting the sex workers from things like violence & cutting down on std transmission & a host of other problems.

I honestly don't really know what I think about prostitution. On one hand, it is a service lol. But sometimes I think that girls get sucked into this and then they're trapped and in a really bad deal. If you think of "Madames" and those vegas bunny ranch places, I think those are no big deal. People are "safe" sexually and the girls are physically safe and taken care of. It's the people on street corners that I feel like are the reason for it being outlawed, just because it keeps those people in a vicious cycle of poverty and abuse.

I think the roots of it being a big problem to some people are in how unhealthy it is disease-wise and spreading illness. Yes, there is a moral thing to it for people who believe sex should only be for procreation. Which is fine for them - they shouldn't visit a prostitute lol. But I think the laws, even if "morality" was used to drum up support, come from a health & welfare standpoint. And those are not invalid today. But I think it could be legalized with regulations that would be fine.

I think the whole Secret Service thing is embarassing and yeah I think they should be fired. Should it be national news...probably not. I'm sure they're not the first or last government employees in a foreign country to visit a prostitute, but they were just dumbasses. Yes, they were off duty but causing an international incident seems like a one way ticket to a private security firm lol

Yes, but what about the human trafficking aspect of it? Seriously. That's why prostitution is so popular in countries like Thailand and wherever else. If we regulate and legalize it how would that stop human traffickers? That's the only thing I care about, really. I don't care about the adults who go into it with eyes wide open but when it comes to cutie pie little children, I am NOT okay with that.

Even if they make it so things would be better, there will always be the sickos who will find some way to exploit the little kidlets. :(

I feel like on the big list of issues in the world prostitution doesn't really rate with human trafficking, drug shipping, hunger and corruption.

If you want to ban it on a moral ground don't go but ethically this is how someone is paying their way through life. You can't really (in my mind) crusade against a welfare state then start outlawing professions. Other countries do allow prostitution and set up regulations to cut down on sexual transmission of diseases and violence against the women and earn cash through taxes. Spain even has parking meter like devices to tax street walkers. Its a profession you may not like it but when done well it doesn't hurt anyone and keeps everyone safe while they do it.

but you know what's shocking? according to the u.s. dept of justice & other human rights groups that have been tracking this, the majority of the CLIENTS of the sex traffic, even overseas...are AMERICANS. Over 25 %. That's not only shocking but disturbing when you consider the make up of the clients includes a large number of LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS as well as ppl in various religious groups etc.

that is supremely fucked up to me & it says something about ppl in this country who want to get all "morally outraged" over prostitution (grown women who consent to providing such services)

this is important & definitely a huge problem but again, alot of ppl don't realize that even more sick than the idea itself is who is funding, enabling & encouraging it. sadly...its not just the countries over seas...its largely america itself that's a sad irony.
