<< the thing about a puzzle is that when you first look at all the pices, even though you know what the whole picture is supposed to look like...getting to that point isnt always immediately clear. and with the circumstances at Minerva's Mansion as of late, even being a precog was no guarantee of a clear view or understanding just how monstrous that bigger picture actually would be when all pieces, seen and UNSEEN were brought together just right.>>

<< the attempt to put it together was starting now, as Delilah, the true LIGHT of the Six, having just recently comeback from her OWN darkness, was now about to interview this unknown man who was nearly swallowed by the angry ocean a week ago.>>

<< As the others watched hidden in the observation booth some wondered What would she find out? What would HE be like? and then, though they didnt know it, another important question was Where was Bianca?>>

<< so many questions...and plenty of time to watch and see.>>

"I don't have to be a precog to know this is going to end badly."

Ava deadpanned as she watched Delilah from the hidden observation booth prepare to interview John Doe. Though she was one of the "good guys", Ava was not naive and certainly not charitable when it came to mysterious strangers suddenly appearing by their magically enhanced island. But Delilah insisted on giving him the benefit of the doubt.

"This has Bishop 2.0 written all over it. The last time Delilah was adamant on giving a strange man the benefit of the doubt, he ended up trying to kill Sharon and almost outting us. I understand WHY we are entertaining her with this.....show of compassion, but do you all really believe this is the best course of action considering she's still recuperating from killing herself because of the LAST man she was trying to help?"

It was cynical and down right rude, but it was Ava's way of showing her concern for Delilah. She didn't want her to get hurt again--to be pulled into another situation that might send her spiraling into the darkness. Delilah was the light of the team; the voice of reason. It may have been a heavy burden for them to put her in that category, but everyone knew it was true. Without Delilah there, there would have been MANY times the six would have thrown the ethics code out the window to get what they wanted. She evened them out, as did Nicolas. So to see her on yet another mission of mercy with yet another man was like heartburn. Obnoxious and painful.

Sighing, Ava rolled her eyes shut as she pinched the bridge of her nose.

"I'm sorry, that was insensitive."

Looking back up, her eyes rested upon John Doe.

"I just don't want her to get hurt thinking she can save him the way she couldn't save Bishop."

Delilah thought the force field was unnecessary. He wasn't going anywhere anytime soon. And anyone who was out to get them would certainly not drown themselves to do it. But Alison had insisted, and Delilah let it go.

She sat next to the hospital bed, holding his hand. She had found herself in this room a lot since the night he had comes to their shores. She didn't know why, but she wanted him to know someone was there. And if and when he woke up, she wanted a friendly face in the room. Who knows what Alison might do if left to her own devices.

So she sat, and waited, contemplating who this mysterious dark-haired person before her was, and why he was caught in the middle of a raging sea. Alison wanted her to question him, and that was fine. She had questions of her own to ask.

And then finally, he stirred. His eyes fluttered open, the dark lashes blinking quickly as he tried to clear his vision, get his bearings. He started to panic, went to pull the IV out, but she put a gentle hand on his chest.

“Shh shh shh, relax – you’re safe here.”

He stopped fighting and laid back on the bed. He tried to speak. Delilah filled a glass on the bedside table with water from a pitcher and helped him drink.

Maxim: “Where- where am I?”

“On an island off the coast of Greece. Your ship was lost at sea – we pulled you from the water. But you’re going to be just fine. Our doctors expect you to make a full recovery. Just try and rest.”

He felt as if he were moving through a fog, a sea of blackness. He tried opening his eyes, but the light was so bright it took him a few tries. He jumped up. Where the hell was he? His arms flailed around. He was in a bed. He had an IV. Hospital. How the hell did he get in a hospital? And then a sense of calm came over him as a soft hand pushed him back down. She told him he was safe. And despite knowing better, he believed her. He stopped moving and just looked up at her face. Then, after a moment, he tried to speak, but no sound came out. She brought him a drink of water.

“Where- where am I?”

Delilah: “On an island off the coast of Greece. Your ship was lost at sea – we pulled you from the water. But you’re going to be just fine. Our doctors expect you to make a full recovery. Just try and rest.”

He shook his head, moved to get up out of the bed.

“I don’t need rest, I have to get out of here.”

But then his legs got the best of him and crumbled under him. She caught him and eased him back into bed. She tucked the covers around him, touched a cool hand to his forehead.

Delilah: “What’s your name?”

“Max – Maxim.”

She smiled down at him.

Delilah: “I’m Delilah.”

Delilah…

Why did men always have to act all macho when they were hurt? She shook her head.

“Well, Maxim – you’re hurt. I know you want to be all manly and everything but how about you just lie still for now?”

That brought a smile from him, and her annoyance was fleeting.

She sat down on the edge of the bed.

“What were you doing out there? The coast guard registered no distress call from your craft – how did you get into the water?”

He sat up a bit and she helped him put another pillow behind him.

Maxim: “Rocks tore a hole in the hull – she took on water too fast and the storm just ripped her apart. I’m a good swimmer but…”

Delilah could tell that admitting the weakness was difficult for him, so she nodded sympathetically.

“You still haven’t told me what you were doing way out here – doesn’t seem to have been a pleasure cruise.”

Maxim: “I was…following…someone.”

The edges of her mouth turned up into an amused smile.

“A girl?”

Maxim got quiet, serious.

Maxim: “Someone who hurt the one I loved. She’s dangerous, and I can’t let her hurt anyone again.”

Delilah instinctively pulled back at this. Was he noble or dangerous? He had almost died for revenge? She felt conflicted. She wanted to believe he was an innocent, a good person. But what was he mixed up in?

Before she could ask any more questions, he leaned back and closed his eyes. She decided to let him sleep and try again when he was rested. She brushed the hair off his face before standing and exiting through the force field.

Haleigh showed up with Zach in tow promptly as the news came that the mystery man was coming around. There were glances from the others, passing from her to Zach, and Haleigh offered a brief explanation for his presence.

"Zach's gonna monitor the emotions -- of both John Doe AND Delilah-- and it might give us some insight.... Plus, if either of them gets too agitated, he can help manage the situation."

Nobody seemed to object. It seemed like everyone just organically accepted Zach around the mansion and in their social group. He wasn't usually hands-on when it came to their 'Six Stuff', but today it was logical, and they could use all the help they could get. As the week passed, Haleigh grew steadily more uneasy. Alison could get nothing from the man's past or future. Delilah spent more and more time in the infirmary. They knew NOTHING about this man, other than his appearance and his blood type. Haleigh had a workable DNA strand but nothing to compare it to. She stared down at him as Delilah sat next to his bed like a guardian angel.

Ava: I don't have to be a precog to know this is going to end badly. This has Bishop 2.0 written all over it. The last time Delilah was adamant on giving a strange man the benefit of the doubt, he ended up trying to kill Sharon and almost outting us. I understand WHY we are entertaining her with this.....show of compassion, but do you all really believe this is the best course of action considering she's still recuperating from killing herself because of the LAST man she was trying to help?

"If Delilah can save THIS man, perhaps she'll forgive herself for Bishop. It's a gamble, and I'm not really comfortable taking it either.... but we were never going to be able to talk her out of trying to help him. I believe that if we HAD decided to leave him for dead, Delilah would have saved him herself, with NO regard for the danger she'd put herself in. Doing it OUR WAY ensures that we have Delilah's trust and SOME measure of control over the situation. Besides, look at her now. She's calm, she's focused, and she has something to distract her from our tendency to hover over her EVERY MOVEMENT. She's not an IDIOT, she was a detective for crying out loud. I think she'll exercise the proper amount of caution."

The man woke, and a short conversation took place. Haleigh wished Delilah had gotten a FULL name, something for her to work with, but she didn't say anything at the time, she just watched unblinking, like a hawk, for any sudden movements. Delilah got the vaguest of vague information about his shipwreck and his mission before the man drifted back out of consciousness. Delilah didn't try to wake him again.

<< Morgan sat with Tinkerbell in her lap. They all listened and watched. Morgan looked at the man, he looked like he had a darkness that haunted him deeply.>>

<< As he began to interact with Delilah, they all watched. Ava broke the silence.>>

Oh Ava! << she said in a chiding tone>> what a terrible thing to say!

<< Morgan softened her facial expression. She understood where Ava was coming from and while it sounded harsh and insensitive, at least she was honest.>>

you know...I can't help but feel this odd feeling of dread. Like we're playing too close to the edge. I dont know WHY. I mean...what could this many POSSIBLY do? Alison alone could deal with him if necessary I'm sure and with all of US here to back her??

and yet, I can't help but feel concern as well for Delilah. a DEEP concern. I dont know why I'm feeling like this. I'm acting like she's some naive lamb or something. She's NOT. She never has been!

But I can't help but WORRY and what you just said...its like you gave voice to the absolute WORSE CASE scenario secretly lurking in my mind.

Persephone said:

Bishop didnt deserve to be saved. He was a liar and a bigot. He USED her. He knew just what to say to trick her and he played on her very strong convictions. She may not ever know it, but I know she did the right thing by killing him. HE ruined our lives even after his death!

Ultimately, I agree with you, Ava. But you know what? WE'RE here now and WE WONT let that happen again.

:: Ava gave blunt voice to something Morgan AND Alison had in their minds. Bishop was such a...haunting thing.::

Of us all, Delilah is DEFINATELY the most suited to make first contact with him. She has the knowledge and skill as a detective to know how to interact with any number of personality types and unlike most of US, she is willing to be PATIENT with flatscans...i mean humans. In order to best determine WHERE Morgan should teleport him when its time to send him on his way, we need to try to get some insight into his background.

I've had no luck with viewing his past. Haleigh doesnt have enough to search any database on the globe that might contain info on him and Cameron's telepathic scans THUS far have not indicated he's a threat to us BUT they don't reveal anything else either...except that dark, brooding cloud of thought.

:: she sitting closest to the window and watched Delilah with the john doe and then looked back among the Six in the room with her.::

The last thing we should be doing is relegating her to the sidelines because of any concerns we have. That would be just as wrong. Since she prevailed upon me to not turn the man away or let the sea claim him, it's only logical that she assist with his initial interview.

As Morgan says, We're all here and aware. We WON'T let her get in over her head. I've been on edge about this...anamoly in the time threads involving her for over a month now. I can't say that this john doe and that anamoly are one in the same or that he's related to the strageness around the mansion but i can't say they AREN'T either. As a precog, this doesnt happen to me often...

:: she said with uncertainty as she trailed off, seemingly distracted as she looked back at the monitor. She watches Delilah and the john doe, whose name is apparently Maxim.::

Delilah is such a caring person. She lives and fights with honor. She's been the anchor of us as a team and family more than once. She means so much to Morgan and I have come to care very much about her over the years....what happened with Bishop...it's something that ALL OF US bare a scare from and she the worst of all.

foresight or NOT, I WON'T let anyone us get to her like that or harm ANY OF YOU like that. We nearly lost our lives because of him and as it turned out, we lost our freedom, our very identity because of him, even in DEATH.

By involving Delilah, we allow her to use the skills she clearly has. we affirm our belief in her as teammate, a trusted friend and she knows that WE are going to be involved as well to make sure she does not have too much of a burden.

How these people were still alive, Bianca couldn't fathom. It had been way too easy for her to access the vault, and then the Sword itself. With all the technology and magick at their disposal - hell, a simple alarm on the Sword's case would have done a better job. But nevertheless, she slipped out of the vault as easily as she had slipped in.

Pressing the com button on her wristband, she headed for the beach where a skiff would remotely meet her location and take her to her ship anchored several miles to sea outside the island's radar.

She kicked the motor into high gear. Her costume was comfortable, but after a week on this god forsaken island she was ready to be back in civilization.

So by the time Maxim woke under Delilah's watchful eye, Bianca had already taken her jet back to New York City, then the helicopter to her estate, and was well into implementing the next stage of her plan, the Sword of Anger safely in her possession.

Delilah held a paper coffee cup of tea between her hands as she looked through the hospital room window at her patient. He'd been sleeping for a couple hours now, peacefully it seemed. She didn't know why this was so important to her - making sure he was okay, finding out who he was and why he was here. But it gave her something to focus on, and that's what she needed most right now. The others thought she didn't notice the looks they gave her, but she did. She pretended that the way they thought about her didn't matter, but it did. So this - this was her chance to matter, to be the strong one, the healer. Not the one who needed healing.

Before her eyes, that peacefully sleeping brow turned stormy. He began to toss and turn - clearly having a nightmare. She dropped her cup and rushed inside.

He saw her crying. And a light and her face. Just like always.

And then he was screaming, trying to wake himself from the nightmare he'd had as long as he could remember. Ever since...

His eyes were open now. He was covered in sweat, his breath coming fast and gasping. And in an instant Delilah was at his side - those soft hands consoling him, like a child.

He needed to leave this place, he needed to find her, before she got what she wanted. Before she hurt anyone...before he did.

Delilah was worried - he was screaming now, a low rumble that came from his chest. Something terrible had happened to this man - she knew you didn't get nightmares like this without seeing real horror. She spoke soothing words, used her luminescence to calm him, and he finally woke and stopped thrashing. She wet a cloth and wiped his forehead, sat down next to him once again.

"Do you want to tell me about it? That helps, sometimes."

He didn't look convinced. She waited. He finally relented.

Maxim: "I screwed up. I'm trying to make it right."

Delilah nodded.

"That's not much of a story."

Maxim: "Yeah, well I'm not much of a talker."

He looked down at himself then around the room.

Maxim: "Where are my clothes? It's time for me to go."

Delilah laughed.

"You aren't going anywhere, okay, tough guy?"

He looked unconvinced, and a bit angry. He was silent a second, then pursed his lips and nodded. Throwing off the covers, he put both feet firmly on the ground and looked at her. Delilah took a step back, daring him to try it on his own.

Maxim: "Okay, then."

He stood, and the blood rushed to his head, but he didn't fall. He looked at her again, belligerently, a self-satisfied smirk on his face as he took several steps towards the door. And then

ZAP!

He hit the forcefield and was thrown backwards, sliding across the polished floor.

“I told you you weren’t going anywhere.”

Maxim: “What kind of hospital is this? So I’m your prisoner, then, am I?”

He didn’t sound afraid, though. Or worried. He just seemed to accept his circumstances. Interesting.

She knelt and helped him stand up again, putting a supportive arm around his waist.

“Just until you’re well. Then we’ll get you safely back home. Which is…?”

Maxim: “New York.”

“No kidding? That’s where I’m from. Whereabouts?”

Maxim’s eyebrows raised at her.

Maxim: “You just zapped me with some sort of ray designed to keep me from leaving the room – is reminiscing about the City really appropriate right now?”

She laughed again, depositing him on the bed once more.

“I guess not. I’ll let you get your rest.”

And as she walked to the door she couldn’t help but notice how he didn’t look half bad in boxer shorts.

Normally, he didn't do this. He tried to remain removed from the 'Six Stuff' as he and Haleigh called it. Mostly, Haleigh never asked for his help. Zach suspected this was because she wanted to keep him separate from her pro bono work. He could take care of himself, and he wasn't afraid of being in a dangerous situation, but at the same time he didn't want to just insert himself into their business needlessly.

Lately, though, he was getting a bit restless. A vacation is nice for the first week or so, but after he'd helped Haleigh overcome the nightmares, after things settled down again, he began to feel like he needed something to do or he'd go stir crazy. So he volunteered to help with monitoring the John Doe situation. Haleigh didn't try to talk him out of it; she was anxious for answers of any kind. as Haleigh explained his presence, Zach gave an open smile, then turned his attention to the couple below, letting the conversation around him fade into the background. The man awoke and panicked, and Zach pushed a blanket of calm down into the room to help Delilah ease the man's worries. A brief chat ensued, with no outstanding emotions. Zach sighed as he turned back to the group.

Morgan: and again, WE'RE here. It's not going to happen the way it did with Bishop.

Haleigh: No, it's not. because THIS time, at least, if it becomes necessary to end his life, I'll not hesitate to do it myself. THAT is the part Delilah cannot forgive herself for, but I.... I experience the least amount of discomfort with killing humans, out of all of us. Delilah may hate me for it, but she'll get over it. [noticing Zach was looking for an opening in conversation] What do you think?

"There wasn't anything worth mentioning. He's not being deceitful, just careful. He's worried. He feels guilty about something."

Haleigh: and Delilah?

"She's cautious but optimistic. She really wants to help him. And she's attracted to him."

Haleigh: Gawd. Her libido is like a volcano, I swear. It's inactive for a long time and then just when you get complacent, it explodes at the most inopportune time.

[with a smirk] "What is your libido like, sweetheart?"

Haleigh: Old Faithful, smart ass.

[chuckling] "Well, if the dude is going back to sleep, I'm going to go get something to eat. Do you want me to bring you something?"

Haleigh: No thanks.

A couple of hours had lapsed and everyone in the observation room took turns leaving and returning to see if there were any changes with Maxim. Delilah had said vigil by his side. Ava stood by the large privacy glass window with her arms crossed looking at the both of them. Zach stated the obvious--she was attracted to him. Ava simply shook her head. Bishop 2.0 she said mentally to herself again.

Zach: [chuckling] "Well, if the dude is going back to sleep, I'm going to go get something to eat. Do you want me to bring you something?"

Haleigh: "No thanks."

"Zach, maybe you could have lunch with Delilah? I think some separation from Maxim might do her some good. She hasn't left his side since he arrived."

Ava didn't bother to wait for whether Zach agreed or not, she was already heading for the stairs that lead to the medical lab where Max and Delilah were.

"I'll send her up and stay with him until she returns."

Descending the stairs, Ava was met by armed guards placed on either side of the medical lab's door. Even though the interior of the lab was secured with Delilah's force fields and doors were locked with security codes via Haleigh, Alison didn't want to take any risks.

Guard: "Miss Cassadine."

Nodding to the guard, he stepped aside allowing her access to the security pad. But before Ava could enter the code Delilah was exiting the room.

"Hey, I was just coming down to see you. Zach and Haleigh are insisting on company for lunch, and we thought you could use a small break. I'll sit in with him until you get back."

Noting the hesitation from Delilah, Ava lifted her eyes like a mother would to a stubborn child.

"I'm not going to hurt him...much."

Giving her a small smirk.

"Kidding! I'll be polite, I swear."

Delilah wrapped her arms around herself as she exited the hospital room, curious thoughts filling her mind. So much that she almost ran smack into Ava.

Persephone said:

"I don't know..."

She looked back at the room, hesitant to leave Maxim unattended.

Persephone said:
"I'm not going to hurt him...much. Kidding! I'll be polite, I swear."

"Um, well, okay."

She took a few steps, then turned back.

"Just call me when he wakes up again, okay?"

And with one last look she turned and went to find Haleigh and Zach.

Delilah: "Just call me when he wakes up again, okay?"

"Of course."

Delilah exited the medical lab and Ava watched her as she disappeared down the corridor toward the stairs. Turning around, the lab was quiet--only the faintest sounds of monitors beeping broke the silence. Shifting her eyes to Maxim, she stood across the lab staring at him for a few moments. They knew very little about who he was and what his motives were. Delilah asked him a few questions here and there, but she didn't want to push him. She was more careful about his feelings that she knew Haleigh would have been if she were in charge of the interrogation.

Stepping forward, her black Louboutin heels broke the silence as she slowly made her way over to Maxim's bedside. Wearing black skinny jeans a a v-neck black long sleeved fitted shirt, she stuck out like a sore thumb against the white washed medical decor throughout the room.

Taking a seat on the silver metal stool by the foot of his bed, Ava hooked one of her heels on the bar allowing her thigh to act as an "table" for her to rest her elbow on. With her chin on the hand, she casually sat there waiting for either Maxim to wake up or Delilah to return.

Haleigh sat up straight when she sensed it. Some kind of..... transmission when Maxim woke the second time. Only it wasn't quite a natural transmission. It was more like an.... echo or something. A phantom transmission? She couldn't parse its purpose. She couldn't pinpoint where it came from, either.... but Maxim was the only one here who would bother with any stealth. Of course, he wasn't wearing a device. The man was nearly naked. They'd removed everything except his underwear when they brought him in. He hadn't had anything on him except a wristwatch at the time, and they'd removed that. Maybe the device sending a transmission was implanted? Haleigh needed to do xrays. The trick would be talking Delilah into it.

Ava suggested Zach distract Delilah with lunch. Haleigh nodded, saying that on second thought, she could eat as well, and imploring Ava to GET SOME USABLE INFORMATION out of the man if he woke again. Zach seemed to pick up on her new sense of urgency. They left the observation deck, heading to meet Delilah halfway.

Zach: What is it?

"My spidey senses are tingling."

She said, a few moments before they 'ran into' Delilah in the hall. Haleigh smiled pleasantly.

"Hey Delilah. Did Ava tell you? We were just going to get some lunch. You'll join us?"

She 'proposed', in a way that sounded like she was really insisting more than she was asking. Besides, if Ava had talked her into leaving the man's side, then the hard part was really over.

Zach and Haleigh both looked like she was going to sprout a second head any moment. But Delilah smiled anyway.

"Yeah, she did. That would be great."

Delilah walked alongside the two on their way to the terrace, where lunch would be served. What else could she do?

"So, Zach, how are you enjoying your visit to the island?"

She could make conversation just as well as anyone. But her mind kept going back to Maxim - she really wanted to be there, to see what else she could find out about him. This was little more than a distraction.

Damnit, he should be healed and out of here by now. Yet he kept passing out like a six year old. It was time to cut the crap, and get the hell out-

And then he noticed someone else was in the room. He must REALLY be out of it if it took him that long to realize a stranger was this close to him. He shifted and cleared his throat as he looked around. They were alone.

"So? Who are you?"

It had been unnervingly [for some people] silent for about 15 minutes before Ava finally heard Maxim stir. Lifting her eyes, they met with his as if he hadn't be sleeping at all.

Maxim: "So? Who are you?"

Ava didn't say anything at first, she just sat motionless in the same position looking at him.

"A concerned friend."

She finally stated before standing from her stool and walking over to a pitcher of water and a clear plastic cup that sat on the end table next to his bed.

"But you can call me Ava."

Pouring some water into the cup, she handed it over to him noting that he had cleared his throat before and was most likely parched.

"I answered one of your questions, it's only fair you answer one of mine."

Standing next to his bed, she tucked some of her chocolate locks behind her ear before folding her arms across her chest. She didn't give him much room for argument, however she didn't sound as unforgiving as she could have been. She knew this situation was delicate to Delilah and didn't want to push her further away by being a complete bitch to her newly found friend.

"What's your last name, Maxim?"
