Karen: There is the chopper, but I don't know how to operate it! i'm assuming, Haleigh, that YOU can assist with that?
Haleigh breaks into a winning smile as she looks over the large, luxurious corporate style Bell 429 Global Ranger jet helicopter on the pad in front of them. It was designed for a two pilot crew, but Haleigh could manage it by herself.
"Yes, Karen, I can."
The cabin of the cockpit has seating for eight, and the cockpit can hold two more. Haleigh takes the left seat in the cockpit and insists her sister sit next to her. Everyone else clambers into the cabin as Haleigh straps herself into the seltbelt harness. Morgan is the last one they wait on, and with their luck, it's no surprise she falls and BREAKS her ankle. Karen moves to go after her and so does Blaze, and Haleigh makes the call quickly so that they don't waste time arguing who'd be the best to do it.
"Doctor, with all due respect…you're in no shape to fight that creature! Blaze, get your sister and get BACK HERE… I've got something in store for our uninvited guest."
She says, as she is quickly flipping various switches, going through engine start procedures and then activating the rocket launcher, which extends from its hidden bay beneath the belly of the chopper.
[murmuring] "Come on…. Come on…."
She prepares to fire the INSTANT Blaze and Morgan are back to the helicopter but Blaze unleashes an attack that finally puts the monster down and they teleport back to the safety of the cabin. Haleigh helps to slam the chopper doors shut as Alison encourages her to take off quickly. The muffled chop-chop-chop of the helicopter blades and the roar of the jet engine noise is truly the most beautiful sound Haleigh'd heard in a while. Everyone else breathes a sigh of relief, but Haleigh is still worriedly holding her breath. She knows before anyone else that there are two inbound jets with ordinance destined to be dropped on Raccoon City. She also knows they are not yet clear of the impending shockwave. She puts full throttle in, and the jet engines begin to scream, the rhythmic chop of the blades speeding until they are just a steady thrumming…. But it will STILL not be enough. They were going to be hit.
"We're not far enough yet! HANG ON TO SOMETHING!"
The shockwave blasts them violently, sending the helicopter into a flat spin and shaking them vehemently, and it is ALL Haleigh can do to straighten the crippled chopper out and hold them together, aloft. The whole aircraft was damaged BEYOND REPAIR, and it was only Haleigh that kept it from breaking into pieces around them. She heard everyone in the cabin screaming, but there was NOTHING she could do to help them, she is FAR too concentrated on the chopper's wounded flight. She would not be able to hold it together for very much longer, it was just TOO chaotic. The laws of physics were working their might on the helicopter, and all its spinning parts were threatening to sling outward with every oscillation-- and this was happening several THOUSAND revolutions per minute. She does her best to hold them to a steady, gliding descent, but it is steeper than she would like. Haleigh feels lightheaded, and the REST of her body feels like lead. She knows she is nearing the point of her own exhaustion but she wills herself to continue. Delilah helps slow their descent, but Haleigh must still prepare them for the inevitable. There was no OTHER choice than a crash landing, and Haleigh would try with all her might to make it more of a 'landing' than a 'crash'.
"We're not going to make it, the chopper is TOO damaged. I have to put it down! If you can find a safety belt, PUT IT ON, and BRACE FOR IMPACT!"
She defies gravity, and with Delilah's help, they manage to slow it to a point where the impact will not kill everyone. Haleigh's nose begins to bleed but she ignores it, fortifies the interior of the cabin and cockpit, and allows the rest of the aircraft to absorb MUCH of the force of impact.
