Karen: There is the chopper, but I don't know how to operate it! i'm assuming, Haleigh, that YOU can assist with that?

Haleigh breaks into a winning smile as she looks over the large, luxurious corporate style Bell 429 Global Ranger jet helicopter on the pad in front of them. It was designed for a two pilot crew, but Haleigh could manage it by herself.

"Yes, Karen, I can."

The cabin of the cockpit has seating for eight, and the cockpit can hold two more. Haleigh takes the left seat in the cockpit and insists her sister sit next to her. Everyone else clambers into the cabin as Haleigh straps herself into the seltbelt harness. Morgan is the last one they wait on, and with their luck, it's no surprise she falls and BREAKS her ankle. Karen moves to go after her and so does Blaze, and Haleigh makes the call quickly so that they don't waste time arguing who'd be the best to do it.

"Doctor, with all due respect…you're in no shape to fight that creature! Blaze, get your sister and get BACK HERE… I've got something in store for our uninvited guest."

She says, as she is quickly flipping various switches, going through engine start procedures and then activating the rocket launcher, which extends from its hidden bay beneath the belly of the chopper.

[murmuring] "Come on…. Come on…."

She prepares to fire the INSTANT Blaze and Morgan are back to the helicopter but Blaze unleashes an attack that finally puts the monster down and they teleport back to the safety of the cabin. Haleigh helps to slam the chopper doors shut as Alison encourages her to take off quickly. The muffled chop-chop-chop of the helicopter blades and the roar of the jet engine noise is truly the most beautiful sound Haleigh'd heard in a while. Everyone else breathes a sigh of relief, but Haleigh is still worriedly holding her breath. She knows before anyone else that there are two inbound jets with ordinance destined to be dropped on Raccoon City. She also knows they are not yet clear of the impending shockwave. She puts full throttle in, and the jet engines begin to scream, the rhythmic chop of the blades speeding until they are just a steady thrumming…. But it will STILL not be enough. They were going to be hit.

"We're not far enough yet! HANG ON TO SOMETHING!"

The shockwave blasts them violently, sending the helicopter into a flat spin and shaking them vehemently, and it is ALL Haleigh can do to straighten the crippled chopper out and hold them together, aloft. The whole aircraft was damaged BEYOND REPAIR, and it was only Haleigh that kept it from breaking into pieces around them. She heard everyone in the cabin screaming, but there was NOTHING she could do to help them, she is FAR too concentrated on the chopper's wounded flight. She would not be able to hold it together for very much longer, it was just TOO chaotic. The laws of physics were working their might on the helicopter, and all its spinning parts were threatening to sling outward with every oscillation-- and this was happening several THOUSAND revolutions per minute. She does her best to hold them to a steady, gliding descent, but it is steeper than she would like. Haleigh feels lightheaded, and the REST of her body feels like lead. She knows she is nearing the point of her own exhaustion but she wills herself to continue. Delilah helps slow their descent, but Haleigh must still prepare them for the inevitable. There was no OTHER choice than a crash landing, and Haleigh would try with all her might to make it more of a 'landing' than a 'crash'.

"We're not going to make it, the chopper is TOO damaged. I have to put it down! If you can find a safety belt, PUT IT ON, and BRACE FOR IMPACT!"

She defies gravity, and with Delilah's help, they manage to slow it to a point where the impact will not kill everyone. Haleigh's nose begins to bleed but she ignores it, fortifies the interior of the cabin and cockpit, and allows the rest of the aircraft to absorb MUCH of the force of impact.

With Kyle seemingly out of the way, everyone headed for the helicopter preparing to get the hell out of Raccoon City. As Ava ran forward toward the helipad, the ground shook beneth her--Kyle exploding up from the shaft in which they just ascended from. Stumbling to her knees, she quickly scrambled to her feet looking behind her to see Blaze becoming a flaming bird and engulf Kyle.

"HURRY!"

Ava shouted back to Blaze who was helping Morgan to the helicopter. Everyone was finally in and accounted for. Haleigh started the helicopter up and they took flight, putting distance between themselves and the mansion just as it exploded. Rolling her eyes shut with relief, they were finally safe. Exhausted, Ava felt as if she could pass out right there....but something startled her..caused her eyes to shoot open with
shock. It sounded like a fighter jet passing them...but it was much worse.

"Oh...my....God..."

A missle struck the city, completely destorying it! With wide eyes, she watched as what looked like a shockwave started to travel toward them.

Haleigh: "We're not far enough yet! HANG ON TO SOMETHING!"

Grabbing a looped strap that hung from the ceiling of the chopper, Ava gripped it with all her might as the shockwave hit the helicopter. Screaming, everyone was chaotic. Everything was happening so fast! She didn't even see Blaze get killed....she didn't see Karen pass out. Everything just seemed to blur around her as she held on for dear life. Finally, the aircraft hit the earth; Ava's body flying forward from the impact.

Everything was quiet now....slowly lifting her head, Ava could hear the soft whirling sound of the bent helicopter blades slowly rotate to a stop. Crackling fires surrounded the wreckage and the occational electrical spark exploded from the chopper. Groaning, Ava pushed her body up off the helicopter floor wincing as a reaction of a few broken ribs.

"Haleigh?.....AH..[hissing with pain]...Hales..."

Pushing herself forward, there was so much debris between the front and back seats of the helicopter, it was hard to see if Haleigh was hurt or even get to her.

Becoming more panicked.

"Haleigh!"

As all of them made it to the helicopter, the ground erupted as KYLE made his way back after them. As Morgan and Blaze trie dto evade him. Nicolas did the only thing he could on such short notice.

KYLE!!!

Nicolas roared in his head, slowing him almost imperceptibly as Blaze set up the coup de grace, destroying him in a funeral pyre without peer. Nicolas hung his head, not wishing to watch as Kyle was incinerated first by Blaze's raptor then by the destruction of Arklay Complex.

As they flew, Haleigh moving as quickly as she could, Nicolas realized that she was RUNNING, running from the biggest explosion he'd ever seen. He did not know to look away, and the flash served to stun him momentarily.

The shockwave was what brought him back, the force that pushed against the helicopter and threatened to make all that had occurred before a set of futile actions.

Nicolas struggled to get near Haleigh and helped her as best he could, using his TK to hold together the helicopter at crucial joints and making sure that Delilah had something to cushion as they went down.

Nicolas was one of the first to stir, spurred on by Karen's screams. He made his way over to Blaze's body and paused.

NOTHING.

Blaze was gone...

Mike made his way with the others out to the platform. Mike's head felt like De La Hoya was working on it from the inside. his nose bled form the ungodly wail of Nicolas' "Mother" and he just wanted to rest when some HUGE sumbitch that apparently was Nicolas' BROTHER came up to play. He fired over and over to no avail, before deciding this was why he hung with supers, to handle this shit.

Nicolas stepped up and took the man-beast out only to have him pull a Jason and come BACK for them! Luckily, Karen's other daughter was good at something other than looking good, burning Kyle to a crisp and allowing them to take off.

Mike buckled in and waited, not forgetting what Alison said. Once the shockwave hit, he sat back, staying close to the copter's hull and PRAYED. That was all he could do before the crash-landing impact knocked him cold.

crash

<< suddenly most sound didnt register with them...as the helicopter jerked, turned and spun. Haleigh VALIANTLY controlled the aircraft as best she could to the point of her own exhaustion with crucial assistance from Nicolas, who was understanding more as he went along. He had yet to realize he was truly free...and NEW to a world he'd not seen for 20+ years, he was suffering from the bittersweet reunion with his mother and loss of his brother.>>

<< they all could only think now about surviving the crash even as Blaze lost her life!>>

<< down they went, with Delilah helped slow their descent. Haleigh did her best...but now the moment was at hand!>>

<< down they went slamming through trees, and crashing down...everything stopped...and there was nothing but blackness for most of them.>>

<< there at the base of a waterfall, on the OUTSKIRTS of Arklay Forest - inthe mountain range! Far on the OTHERSIDE of where they had been though. high above was the water fall and trees, where they were, the wreckage of the helicopter was on a rocky slope.>>

<< the sound of chaos from before gave way to the sound of nature with a grey breezy sky above.>>

<< They all began to awaken... Alive and free of the wreckage.>>

Arklay Mountains- the outskirts

<< Morgan quickly awakens...the shock of what she saw moments before has not left her mind on any level...>>

BLAZE!

<< she scrambles over to her...>>

Blaze?

<< She craddles her sister...who is beyond help now. Morgan KNOWS it too.>>

Blaze...

<< she says as she holds her sister up close in a hug. shutting her eyes tightly as tears begin to fall.>>

Karen: My baby....she died...shielding me...it was...

<< she cant speak anymore as she holds onto Morgan and Blaze as Morgan begins to SOB and Karen sheds tears.>>

<< Delilah stands over them, crestfallen as Morgan, who had protected her sister so fiercely for so long...lost her at the most UNEXPECTED MOMENT.>>

<< the others have survived and are now drawing close together...as they look on mournfully. They managed to save the ones they came for...even a bonus person but LOST one of the rescue party along the way...the success was MORE than bittersweet and for Haleigh , who had been here before with losing fellow officers in battle...she felt especially bad for the doctor and Morgan, whom she had promised safe passage out of the city.>>

<< they had their lives...but little else now. Ava had her sister back, Cameron survived along with Alison, Nicolas had his freedom and even his mother, but his road to recovery and adjustment was just beginning...and now, Mike, found that his life was now at the beginning again in many ways. What he was BEFORE no longer mattered, the place he called home no longer existed, but he was here, with a group of special people and had survived right along with them, NOT as a passenger but as a fighter Surely that made HIM special in his own way. Karen and Morgan's life was once again filled with pain and loss...not necessary at the hands of Mystech DIRECTLY but still apart of that overall looming shadow it cast. >>

<< they stand...each one processing what they've experienced and survived, each one silently mourning with Morgan and Karen as they huddled with Blaze between them weeping over their fallen sister/daughter.>>

and so...

<< Haleigh discovers that they've crashed on the outskirts....arklay mountains. its definately a nice bit of distance from where they WERE but they need to move on, and so, with heavy hearts...she, along with Delilah and Ava help Karen and Morgan to stand up...the group gathers their dead and everyone else and with coordinates from Haleigh and encouragement from Delilah, Morgan summons a disc and carries EVERYONE away from that place...that state...that COUNTRY for the last time.>>

several days later

<< alot can happen in a short period of time. on the grounds of Minerva's Mansion, a funeral is taking place.>>

<< Morgan is dressed in a figure flattering, high hemlined black dress, while her mother mother is in a black tailored suit with a black hate and veil over her face. they are joined by Alison and Ava (who live here and have been hosting everyone in the sprawling estate until they can get details such as financial affairs and such settled) , Haleigh, Mike, Delilah, Cameron and Nicolas. Each dressed in black, and a outfit styled to suit him or her.>>

<< Sharon is in recovery in the infirmary, showing continued improvement but still no signs of being aware of Nicolas or her connection to him.>>

<< the group gathers for thise somber occasion, as Blaze, now inside a beautifull coffin is being slowly lowered into the grave plot.>>

<< it is a grey, windy morning and Morgan stands with her mother, closest to the grave as they hold on to one another. >>

<< the priest finishes his eulogy and offers his final prayer and then comes to personally extend his condolences to Karen and Morgan before taking his leave. Morgan and Karen begin to leave, the others follow.>>

<< after moments of silence. they reach a plateau over looking the sprawling ocean and endless horizon before them, the din of the waves is all that is heard for a while until...Alison informs them that as long as DIANA is still out there...none of them will ever be safe. They ALL have ties to Mystech that could come back to haunt them. Morgan expresses her desire for REVENGE but Haleigh tempers that with the realization that this group ...having SURVIVED what can truly be called MASS MURDER...would be the BEST to find and deal with Diana and whatever remnants of mystech there are. >>

<< they survived, but they all lost so much...now all they have left are each other....and so they stand, mourning with Morgan and Karen and looking out to the sea, the endless possibility...and their future...TOGETHER...as a NEW kind of FAMILY....>>

zooming away from them, across the oceans and into the sky, further and further into space, briefly stopping at a large satellite bearing mystech's logo, before moving on into a mystic viel, we return to Ororo's garden...the citadle, as young Victoria stands...looking rather perplexed.

a lesson learned

In the the gothic stone citdale within the garden oasis of Limbo, Ororo touches young Victoria's shoulder, breaking the child's intense stare at the picture of the city engulfed in flames, with bizarre undead people in the fore front and a menacing, smoke like skull image in the night sky.

Ororo: do not worry. that was quite some time ago. but as i said, all the pictures here have a story, a rich history...just waiting to be told.

A lesson learned, my child. not only about the cost of greed and complicity, but about asking for more than which you are ready to know.

She takes a moment to comfort the clearly disturbed child as she wraps her arms around her.

Ororo: now come...

<< as she leads Victoria away, to some other place in the dark, elegant citadle, the view zooms out through a window, into the misty garden. it is night time. through the garden, around trees and other objects we reach the far east end....the border between the garden and LIMBO and as we look past a mournfull statue ;) toward the desolate, icy realm of Limbo. winds howl and lightening flashes. a ZOMBIE looms into view...turning and looking toward the garden and making its way toward it...>>

<< the end.>>
