So I just wanted to know what everyone's opinion is on this subject. With so many datings sites out there/craigslist/myspace/facebook it seems that more and more people are meeting and falling in love online.

So here is my question. Would you ever date anyone or HAVE you ever dated anyone that you met online and how did that go? Why or why wouldn't you?

I am torn because I have been chatting with this guy I met on myspace for a few months and I actually really do enjoy him and he wants to meet up and I am wondering if I should. I know he is legit and I know that he looks like what he says he does but part of me feels weird about it. I am looking for other people's experiences to help me out here.

What are the pros/cons and what do you think? :pconfused:

I would do it if you feel good about the person. But I would do several things first...

1) Background check. Just a basic online deal, make sure at least the first and last name is good and that he is not on furlough or with charges pending, lol. Nearly every state has a free search for that.

2) Meet in public and in a way that will help you evaluate them without the risk of being alone with them until you are comfortable. I say that because people can be whatever they want over an internet connection. In real life, it can be much harder, and you have to respect that this is still kind-of a blind date.

I hope that you have fun but always remember: this person has likely had limited success in developing relationships with people where he is in person. Why that is (or most importantly, is it a problem with him) you will not know know until you spend time with him, so be CAREFUL!

to date, the only person i've meet from "online" in the flesh and that was a young lady named Giselle, from back when i used to haunt the "insult room" chat room on AOL in1997-98 (i used to say the most vulgar things in that room LOL). She was a lesbian from Florida but we became VERY close talking about all sorts of things. in 1998 we finally met at Cedar Pointe the amusement park while she was in Ohio visiting one of her girlfriends LOL.

as for online dating? ive had some guys try to come at me but i don't respond. many of them turned out to be married or something else that is most certainly a "deal breaker".

However I've heard and READ about people meeting their future spouses online and then meeting and getting married etc. in the end, it depends on the people involved, you and the other person.

caution is prudent and meeting in a public place for the first few times is a VERY smart and safe move.

I've had experiences twice with online dating. Both turned out really bad and one turned into a stalker so I would say be very careful as I was too trusting and niave.

I would not rule it out for the future as you never know Mr/Mrs Right may just come online, but, just be very careful.:xyxthumbs:

To wrap up this story lol.. I never met with him. He started dating the roommate of this guy I used to see and so I just nixed all communication with him because the guy I used to date and his roommate were both LUNATICS lol.

I have had pretty good experiences with online dating, actually alot of my ex's i met offline, I mean they never did anything to hurt me or anything like that... they are just ex's cause we didnt' click....

Also my fiance who I have my son with we met on the net and actually its a funny story, I was living in Alabama at the time, but was visiting my mom here in delaware, went into a delaware chat room on yahoo and he IMed me to warn me about a pedofile in the room lol anyways he kept talking to me or trying to (i ignored him most of the time) a week later i went back to alabama and he kept trying to talk to me finally after 4 months i started talking back and we realized my mom lived like 5 streets down from him... 2 years later I came back and here it is 3 years after that and we're still going strong for the most part with a gorgeous little boy.

Although not all online meeting is good I did have 1 bad experience where he kinda stalked me for a while......

I've never had a personal experience with online dating, but one of my friends actually tried the match.com thing and met her current boyfriend. They've been together for over 7 months and are planning on moving in together by next summer. And her friend actually did match.com as well and met her current husband.

However I have meet people in real life that I knew online before hand. I met them on a General Hospital message board and we all ended up meeting in Los Angeles for the GH fan club weekend event. There were about 10 of us and it was tons of fun. I don't speak with a lot of them now, but despite that I definitely enjoyed meeting with them. :)
