As many of you know, I had become very disillusioned and disconnected from the X-men franchise following the infestation of "writers" like Grant Morrison and "artists" like Frank Quitely. That and many other things lead me to cool on my interest of that group that i'd been reading for a while.

In recent weeks while I was Ill, a friend of mine who knows me well down here brought some TPBs from the library she checked out for me. Some of them were the collection of "new x-men childhoods" end.

I have to say, having read this, the writing team of craig kyle and christopher yost is one I really LIKE! this storyline comes on the heels of House of M and Decimation and it was definately one that I was drawn into reading. Featuring the return of one of The X-men's deadliest foes, William Stryker and his Purifiers, this story totally harkens back to the days of Claremont using the X-men to paint very vivid, deep metaphors on the subject of racism, homophobia/bigotry and in this case hate crimes.

It had be en a while since I saw a disaster unfold in the Xmen's world that I really cared about but to see a bus full of children who had just been depowered through no fault of theier own get MURDERED in calculated fashion as the rest of the new xmen (and some familiar older faces) watched in shock and horror...it was truly moving.

This storyline had several hard hitting moments and the overall plot was a truly excellent follow up/ echo of Claremont's ground breaking "God loves Man Kills" which was done back in 1985. MUCH more fitting than that horrible (and apparently editorially mandated) "sequel" of the storyline i just mentioned that unfolded in the pages of X-Treme X-men.

This story had some VERY powerfull and sad moments and the fact that these victims were young children, teens or young adults, being preyed upon by the very REAL idea of a fanatical religious group with no qualms of murdering children just because of who/what they are...THIS is the kind of stuff that made the x-men GREAT back in the day. tapping into themes that are REAL and showing just how UGLY some things are.

Having finished this (it concludes with the RETURN of MAGIK! which i had already read before but didnt realize it was the conclusion to THIS storyline) i can honestly say i hate that i wasnt aware of THIS writing/creative team. Yost also handled the Dazzler one shot which I thought was well done and THAT was a tie in to the aftermath of "Necrosha" which i also just finished reading and T HAT was delivered by this same creative team.
