Marvel has released this image to help explain the new Spider-man continuity

Please keep the rolling eyes to a minimum and remember "its Magic they don't have to explain it."

A new cause for a different effect? Hmm, I am not sure if I like this new Spider-Man History...and how did they even change History without changing everyone elses History as well?! Spider-Man's been a very important piece to many events, by pulling those threads apart they would need to tear the entire Marvel Universe apart and put it back together again! Which would mean everything that is happening in all the other titles (X-Men, Annihilation Conquest, Mighty/New Avengers, etc.) would need to stop right in the middle of their own storylines and change to the reality created from this magical effect. I see the makings of another "House of M" type-scenario coming on the horizon. Well...maybe they can get it right this time, reset everything to start on a new path so that none of this Registration nonsense ever happens. Fighting over secret identities and whether or not the Government should have control over Super Heroes was one of the stupidest ideas Marvel has ever brought forth.

Besides...we all know how this is gonna end: Gwen Stacy dies...again, Mary Jane marries Peter...again, Aunt May gets capped by a sniper...again and Harry will die of a drug overdose...again. We have seen this repeat a million times over. How about this? Peter ends up becoming a villain rather than superhero? His anger over the deaths of both his Aunt and Uncle cause him to go completely insane. He becomes a cold blooded killer and then, when Doctor Doom offers him the chance to join him (Amazing Spider-Man vol.1...#10?), Peter takes the offer and gains ahold of more power than he could have ever imagined, thus making him a great threat to those who, in the mainstream, were his friends. Afterwards, he and his Master are captured by the Beyond along with several other heroes and villains and Spider-Man becomes one with a strange little black blob that will follow his every command.

Thus we have a better Venom, an evil Spider-Man, no Marriage-related crap (let Hank and Janet in whichever Avengers they are a part of do stuff like that), frequent Doctor Doom appearances, no sobbing over Aunt May and Uncle Ben (just revenge type stuff without the 'morality' of the Punisher) and perhaps a Beyonder who isn't just another "Mary Sue" (for those who do not know what that is listen up: a Mary Sue is a character who can be either Male or Female, has no personality, has God-Like Powers, is part of a "Great Destiny," and really annoys the hell out of readers, gamers, etc. Typical examples include Wesley from Star Trek: TNG, Fan-Made characters added to a Fan Fiction based on a property of any type, several central characters in many different Anime and the Entire Casts of both Stargate: SG-1 and Atlantis. Oh, and I almost forgot one other being: that Gopher from Caddyshack.)

Hey i was fan of the Spider-marriage i like seeing Mary Jane and Peter together. In regards to the new continuity this should have a big effect on a few books like Thunderbolts hows Norman Osborn going to act with his some alive or The New Avengers letting Petey run with them in the middle of all the skrull craziness without knowing who he is. As a matter of fact a unknown masked hero in the MU as it is is probably not the best thing to be especially with Secret Invasion on the rise.

There was absolutely no good reason for the undoing of the marriage, especially like this. It was just because Quesada thought that by having him oh, you know...being a bit of an adult and handling responsibilities like a man you couldn't tell good spiderman stories. Nope...gotta get rid of that layer of depth to the character(s), retcon most developments with him such as The Other (which actually added things that MADE SENSE and was good for the character), and revert him back to old spiderman when he was a kid with 'it's magic' as the explaination. Fail..just so full of fail. Then to openly put stuff in Brand New Day and publicly state proudly that you did it just to slap long time readers and majority that didn't agree with your change idea in the face? Pure crap.

That probably does it for me as far as Spiderman goes. I lived and hurt with him for years, and Quesada dismisses it like so much insignificance because he is unable to be sufficiently creative? Whatever.

I really don't understand the need to remove the elements from the Spider man mythos they did. How does working at the Bugle, Dating and have mechanical web shooters and make for more drama. Doesn't it just show an inability to be creative from the "House of Ideas"?

Exactly. I do not see undoing all of your ideas as the same as having good ideas in the first place. Now with this crap, what has happened as far as his strength level? His organic web shooters are gone, which sucks ass. All the issues surrounding the exploration of his powers? What about that?

How can all of the other heroes (Iron Man and the Hulk come to mind quickly) evolve so MUCH and yet Spidey is REDUCED to what he was at the beginning.

I will say this. Anything done by magic, if people complain enough, will be undone by MAGIC...

Joe Q doesn't think hes done anything wrong and while he is Editor in Chief of Marvel comics i don't think that we will being seeing older Spider-man. Its just so odd that they would decided to reduce this character, take away everything that makes him more mature, the growth of his powers, his wife and life long love just for the preference of one EiC. Its disrespectful to the fans and everyone that has followed Spider-man.
