A new cause for a different effect? Hmm, I am not sure if I like this new Spider-Man History...and how did they even change History without changing everyone elses History as well?! Spider-Man's been a very important piece to many events, by pulling those threads apart they would need to tear the entire Marvel Universe apart and put it back together again! Which would mean everything that is happening in all the other titles (X-Men, Annihilation Conquest, Mighty/New Avengers, etc.) would need to stop right in the middle of their own storylines and change to the reality created from this magical effect. I see the makings of another "House of M" type-scenario coming on the horizon. Well...maybe they can get it right this time, reset everything to start on a new path so that none of this Registration nonsense ever happens. Fighting over secret identities and whether or not the Government should have control over Super Heroes was one of the stupidest ideas Marvel has ever brought forth.
Besides...we all know how this is gonna end: Gwen Stacy dies...again, Mary Jane marries Peter...again, Aunt May gets capped by a sniper...again and Harry will die of a drug overdose...again. We have seen this repeat a million times over. How about this? Peter ends up becoming a villain rather than superhero? His anger over the deaths of both his Aunt and Uncle cause him to go completely insane. He becomes a cold blooded killer and then, when Doctor Doom offers him the chance to join him (Amazing Spider-Man vol.1...#10?), Peter takes the offer and gains ahold of more power than he could have ever imagined, thus making him a great threat to those who, in the mainstream, were his friends. Afterwards, he and his Master are captured by the Beyond along with several other heroes and villains and Spider-Man becomes one with a strange little black blob that will follow his every command.
Thus we have a better Venom, an evil Spider-Man, no Marriage-related crap (let Hank and Janet in whichever Avengers they are a part of do stuff like that), frequent Doctor Doom appearances, no sobbing over Aunt May and Uncle Ben (just revenge type stuff without the 'morality' of the Punisher) and perhaps a Beyonder who isn't just another "Mary Sue" (for those who do not know what that is listen up: a Mary Sue is a character who can be either Male or Female, has no personality, has God-Like Powers, is part of a "Great Destiny," and really annoys the hell out of readers, gamers, etc. Typical examples include Wesley from Star Trek: TNG, Fan-Made characters added to a Fan Fiction based on a property of any type, several central characters in many different Anime and the Entire Casts of both Stargate: SG-1 and Atlantis. Oh, and I almost forgot one other being: that Gopher from Caddyshack.)
