Is Everybody Single? More Than Half the U.S. Now, Up From 37% in '76 - Bloomberg

---------------------

Bloomberg said:
Single Americans make up more than half of the adult population for the first time since the government began compiling such statistics in 1976.

Is this a bad thing? I dont think so.

I'm single, & living in a "sex & the city" kinda world

It seems like now, more & more women are realizing they DONT have to rush to get married & have children before they're 35 in order to be "validated" or seen as having "accomplished" something. Sometimes, being single is the better option, for a variety of reasons.

What's unfortunate is that tax codes tend to favor married couples.

I agree that it's a good thing. I mean my generation really has been all about finding themselves outside of what is considered conventional and I think this statistic really just highlights that.

More and more of my friends just don't buy into marriage...like I think because it's so engrained in us, that latent desire is never going to go away but I think people realize they can have successful and interesting lives that are worth something even if they aren't married..

I am happily married (13 years as of Monday) and it is hard at times. And I think we fit incredibly well. The reason for more single people is that people realize marriage is a good deal ONLY with that right person. Barring that... horrible arrangement.

I prefer this new normal to broken families. The only thing that concerns me is kids outside of marriage who often have only one parent to raise them. Many single parents make it work but for many it is too much.
