They've remade Beverly Hills 90210 - now television executives are considering remodelling mid-90s drama show Melrose Place.

The show, which screened from 1992 to 1999 as a spin-off from 90210, turned actors like Heather Locklear, Andrew Shue and Courtney Thorne-Smith into household names.

It also starred Desperate Housewives' Marcia Cross.
Studio CBS Paramount Network Television confirmed they are considering putting a remake into development for the 2009-10 TV season.
A remake of 90210, featuring guest spots from some of the show's original actors, has proved to be a minor success.

Second article:

Had 90210 not already hit our screens this fall, the following news might have flipped your red wig. To reveal one nasty scar.

Sources confirm for TVGuide.com that, just as the netlet did with Beverly Hills, 90210, the CW is readying a reboot of that 1990s show's own spin-off, Melrose Place.

Details are nil on the project, which at this very early stage is embarking on the hunt for a writer. But series cocreator Darren Star will have no involvement in the revisiting. (CW parent CBS Paramount owns rights to both of the Aaron Spelling productions.)

Star told TVGuide.com just last month that whether he was involved or not, "It would be a fun thing to do. I wouldn't be surprised if it happened, if it can be put together in the right way."

Similarly, I ran by Grant Show the idea of a 90210-inspired "Melrose 2.0" when I spoke to him for Swingtown. "It's up to you guys," he said, laughing it off. "That's out of my hands." At my suggestion that his Jake return as "the sage pool cleaner," Show responded, "I'd like that! I never thought of him that way, but that's a good idea." -- Matt Mitovich

I thought i'd share this considering one of our admins love for Melrose Place. ;) And to see her reaction of course LOL.

i'm not really thrilled with this. I KNOW there's going to be a major "disconnect" between fans of the original (classic) MP and this new one.

some questions that come to mind: will they use the same "building"? which cast members from the original will cameo. Darren Star parted ways with MP between season 3 and 4 and the show soldiered on without him, so I'm not surprised that he will most likely not be involved. as long as they dont pick someone like Brad Kern

Yeah, I gotta agree with Farrah here. This does not sound promising in the least lol. Its exactly what happened with the new 90210 and we know how well that's received. :hehe2:

I don't think I'll be watching unless it looks really good. But I'm sure it'll flop.

lol we showed Laura an article about this with a picture of her and the original cast and she gave a look like she was less than thrilled lol

lol we showed Laura an article about this with a picture of her and the original cast and she gave a look like she was less than thrilled lol

LOL! well i guess that means that we wont see SYDNEY returning. Considering how WRONG they killed her off (because Laura rightfully asked for more money) and the show began to suffer with her and Marcia Cross' departure.

Well I really can't see her doing it (you know, based on the whole 5 weeks I've known the woman lol). She is just too intelligent to do it - UNLESS they made her a fantastic offer she couldn't refuse. But, yeah, I get the feeling she looks back at MP the same way people look back at their old prom pictures lol

CW Melrose Place Redo Ramps UP

CW's Melrose Place Redo Ramps Up

– Prime time just got a little soapier.

As we've been reporting for months, CW honchos have been positioning Melrose Place to follow in the footsteps of 90210 and be resurrected for a new generation of teenyboppers. Now, the network has greenlighted a pilot of the revamped Aaron Spelling classic.

The remake will follow the original formula and chronicle a group of twentysomethings dwelling in Los Angeles' perpetually trendy Melrose neighborhood.

Aside from Jennie Garth's preemptive announcement that she would not be joining the cast's recycled ranks, there has been no word on casting. But an Oscar-credentialed director has been hired, according to the Hollywood Reporter, who has ties to none other than erstwhile Melrose dweller Billy Campbell.

Davis Guggenheim, who directed and won an Oscar for An Inconvenient Truth, will helm the pilot episode. Married to Elisabeth Shue, Guggenheim boasts the added bonus of being brother-in-law to Billy Campbell himself, Andrew Shue.

While there's no word on whether Shue would consider revisiting his old stomping grounds, other more shameless Melrose Place alum have not been shy about expressing a desire to reprise their original roles.

Sources told E! News last year that Heather Locklear is being courted by the CW, while both Lisa Rinna and Grant Show have publicly made their cases.

There's no word yet on when the pilot will go into production.

I admit it, the new 90210 is my guilty pleasure lol. I started watching just for Jeanie Garth and Shannen Doherty, but i've gotten addicted to it. So I think i'll give the new Melrose Place a chance too. :p I just hope it isn't like 'The Hills' or something...

yes i have to say, i too watched the 90210 strictly for Shannen Doherty and even that boring Jennie Garth, but the show isnt as HORRID as i thought it'd be.

I too am honestly curious to see what they do with Melrose Place 2.0. Heather Locklear returning (perhaps)? wonderfull. I'd love to see Courtney Thorne-Smith, Laura Leighton and Lisa Rinna return as well. But with so many popular stars/characters from the classic MP...how would they make it so the original stars don't eclipse the new ones? LOL they should just do a MP reunion movie ala' Dynasty (back in1991)

Yeah, I thought the new 90210 started out rough, but it's gotten good. I HATE Annie....I think she's an annoying little snot. But I LOVE Adrianna.

As for MP, it would be cool if they brought back some of the old cast like they did on 90210 and integrate them into the newer cast. And once the newer cast is established, maybe bring some more of the older cast in if anyone is interested. So it sort of builds a fanbase for the new cast and also pleases the older viewers.

Courtney Thorne-Smith: No Plans for Melrose Place Visit

Los Angeles (E! Online) – Will the new Melrose Place (Ashlee Simpson-Wentz included, natch) feature some old-timers?

While Heather Locklear may be having conversations with producers to return as witch-in-heels Amanda Woodward, it's unclear who else may or may not have already been approached for a resurrection.

"I think it's really for the younger generation," Courtney Thorne-Smith, who played Alison Parker on MP, told us yesterday at the John Varvatos seventh annual Stuart House benefit in West Hollywood. "I don't think there's much place for us old folks."

But that doesn't mean Thorne-Smith wouldn't consider an offer if one came through.

"It's not something I'm looking for, but I never say never to anything," she said.

If nothing else, Thorne-Smith would love a reunion show. "I run into [former costars], but we haven't got together or anything," she said. "I really wish we would, though, because that would be so much fun. Years ago, Fox did a reunion show with 90210. They should really do that for Melrose…But we all have kids now, so we'd have to do it at Chuck E. Cheese or something."

In the lastest MP casting news, the CW confirmed this morning that Ashlee Simpson-Wentz has signed on to play sexy fresh-off-the-bus Violet Foster.

Los Angeles (E! Online) – Pete Wentz had better get used to spending quality time with baby Bronx. His wife is going to be busy for a while.

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz has been cast in the CW's Melrose Place redux.

"I'm thrilled to be joining the cast of Melrose Place and I look forward to being a part of its new generation of residents," she said in a statement.

The "Pieces of Me" singer, who was once a regular on 7th Heaven and appears alongside her husband in the March 18 episode of CSI: NY, will play Violet Foster, a Spokane, Wash., gal who hops on the bus to Los Angeles the day after she graduated. Violet is described as having a sex appeal she's not afraid to use to her advantage and a seeming small-town naiveté that masks her shrewd, plotting nature.

Such a description draws obvious comparisons to Amy Locane's blond Sandy Harling in the original series, but there's no telling what hue kaleidoscope-haired Simpson-Wentz will take for Violet.

The singer-actress-mamacita joins Supernatural's Katie Cassidy and Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants actor Michael Rady in the luxury apartment building.

...well i'm disappointed to say the least. I was hoping it wouldn't be about teens fresh out of highschool and moreso college students on the verge of graduating or something. I was hoping they wouldn't go the teeny bopper route and try to stay true to MP but 'revive' it for the younger generation. Oh well.

I'll probably still check it out like I did he new 90210 out of curisoty.

im rather disappointed myself. how could "TEENS" afford to live in Melrose Place? hell people used to wonder how the original group of "20 somethings" could afford the cars and wardrobes they had lol!

Ashlee Simspon in Melrose Place? The girl can't sing and while i remember her on 7th Heaven, I really wasnt impressed....and they are drawing comparisons between her character and "Sandy Harling" from season 1 of MP...."Sandy" was written out of the show after season 1 LOL! So what does that tell you?

LOL, hopefully that Ashlee's MP stint is as short lived as her music career? :D

I was never impressed with her acting abilities [or lack there of] when I saw her on 7th Heaven. It was painful to watch lol. So unless she got hit with he talent stick, I doubt she'll last too long. :p

Laura Leighton returns to Melrose Place!

Laura Leighton to Reprise 'Sydney Andrews' on Melrose Place Remake

The bitch is back. Okay, I may now actually watch the pilot. Original Melrose Place actress Laura Leighton has joined the CW pilot in a recurring role.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Leighton will reprise her role as scheming Sydney Andrews. The character was last seen in the fifth season finale in 1997 when she was run over on her wedding day and presumed dead.

Sydney will apparently return as the landlady to the new crop of tenants. I'm so looking forward to the scene when she pushes someone who's wearing a wedding dress into the pool.

YAY! :D

hell yeah! NOW im totally on board for the return of MP! Thomas Calabro is joining too, reprising his role as Michael Mancini...itll be interesting to see how Michael and Sydney react to each other after all this time.

Unfortunately, CW was UNABLE to convince Heather Locklear to return to MP as "Amanda Woodward"

'Melrose Place' exclusive: Heather Locklear won't join reboot

One person who won't be moving back into Melrose Place? Heather Locklear. The actress -- who played the key role of Amanda Woodward on the original series -- has turned down an offer to join the cast of the CW's update of the hit Fox serial, EW has learned. "There wasn't a way to bring her back that made sense," says a source close to the situation. While the network and studio won't comment, her reps do confirm that Locklear has passed. It's no secret that the CW was aggressively pursuing Locklear and will likely want to secure another star from the original show. The reboot, which is slated for the fall, has already cast Ashlee Simpson-Wentz, Jessica Lucas, Michael Rady, and Katie Cassidy.

YAY! :D
Awesome, I'll definitely watch it now. They must have offered her a mint lol - she's a shrewd businesswoman, that one. :)

"There wasn't a way to bring her back that made sense,"

That made me laugh considering they're bringing back Sydney....who was run over and killed by a car on her wedding day LOL!

Well it sucks that HL won't be joining the cast, but atleast we have a couple of the original characters. :) So yay for that!

RIGHT! and Amanda didnt even die! she faked her death with Peter!

Well, I agree, with Sydney and Michael back...that's gonna rock and if there's a website to sign a petition to get Lisa Rinna on the show, i'll surely sign it LOL! "Taylor" would give any of those young bitches a run for their money and to see her and Sydney square off over Michael would be funny as hell!
