Things I've recently thought of/discussed w/ others when this character is brought up.

- "on panel" & "in canon" Marvel, she's been dead now for 8 years, just two years longer than than period following Phoenix II's death before the retcon & Jean's return in 1986.

- ppl (readers & even some characters in the comics) have often quiped about Jean dying/coming back over & over- but Phoenix II (who committed suicide on the moon) wasn't Jean. Aside from that...what other times had she died?

- Madelynne Pryor, even before she became Goblyn Queen, was a much more capable, competent & all around tougher woman than Jean Grey.

- In the years following the Inferno, where Madelynne demonstrated vast superiority to Jean in terms of power [it was her suicidal insanity that ultimately destroyed her, not Jean] MANY other major league telepaths were dumbed down to make Jean seem more powerfull

- She's a lousy physical fighter

-Though the character is dead, she has been enjoying quite a bit of exposure in Marvel's multimedia outlets- including the latest installment of Marvel vs Capcom (3) & Super Hero Squad online

-Marvel says "her return is something they don't want to rush" if they wait too long- an entire generation will not be familiar w/ her & she'll probably then be regarded as marginally as Dazzler is by the kids today who didnt see her greatness in the 70's, 80's & early 90's before she was sidelined- even though her return to the frontline of the x-men these last few years has been solid.

- If Jean DOES return...what then? I can't imagine anyone, ESPECIALLY not among the maladaptive personality types among the X-men, returning from the grave to find out their ENTIRE FAMILY was massacred by so-called ALLIES of the x-men NOT having something to say (or DO) about that. Where would she fit in? If NOTHING ELSE...I'm ready for SOMEBODY to take down Emma Frost. Madelynne did it but apparently an apparition of Jean saved her from Madelynne's psychic assault

Thoughts?

Jean Grey won't be fact for a while simply by virtue of her being too powerful for a X-men book but on the flip side the X-offices at Marvel are known for being character death-trap, no one is allowed to leave. Unless she gets MASSIVELY depowered like X-man, Cable, or Rachel Grey shes going to be dead for a long long time.

Rachel Grey isnt dead though unless I missed something VERY recently & Nate Grey is on Utopia right now. Cable only just died in the conclusion of 2nd Coming & that was a true warrior's death

oh no thats not what i meant, they aren't dead but they're powers have all been dropped way way waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay low. Nate Grey went from fighting the entire roster of the Dark Avengers and Dark X-men at once without trying to low level TK so he could be in New Mutants (which has actually been pretty good, not sure if you're reading it)

Cable for the longest time has had almost no powers except being able to lift the guns he uses (and is set to make his return in a book i can't remember at the moment) and Rachel Grey is still in space and it isn't sure if she's coming back to earth at her full power yet.

I've wanted to see how Magik would respond to X-man but she was "restrained" by cyclops in the x-brig for a while till late.

Nate Grey was @ his best, personality wise when interacting w/ Madelynne Pryor in his series in the mid to late 90s even though Cable is her biological son.

Speaking of Cable, yeah i remember his debut. Then suddenly he became a psychic on par w/ Xavier & Jean BUT to be fair, he IS Madelynne's child & look @ the power she had. I preferred him more w/ the guns & proactive attitude then the psychic diva he became. It was nice to see him back to that in 2nd coming & his death was very much heroic. if that one had stuck, i could understand BUT OF COURSE NOT!

Rachel <<sigh>> yes astral projected back to earth & got caught up in the age of x warp. thing is, in her hey day, Rachel would have DEMOLISHED Legion. To me, her current situation (waking up w/ a gun pointed in her face) is just another example of her being sidelined. such a waste. but then again not many people outside of claremont could write her & many didnt know what to do w/ her.

I say- Bring Jean, Cable & Madelynne back to the front. Put Madelynne back @ her prime (w/ the psychic powers amped by dark magick), put Cable w/ X-force & let Jean take care of unfinished business (mainly w/ Emma & Scott) of the X-men. Jean & Maddie BOTH have every right to wanna nail Scott's weak ass.

You know, I hate to say this, but I never terribly cared for Jean. The Phoenix stuff was cool and all, but I never really liked her as a person lol

LOL :haha:

I laugh b/c I usually only see ppl who LOVE HER or don't know anything about her (yet they call themselves marvel/ x-men fans). It's RARE to see eomeone who doesnt like her or (like me) HATES her. I don't know why.

Madelynne was always the better one to me & she gave Scott something Jean never did (in mainstream time anyway), a child- Cable.

Ppl see Jean as saintly or "the heart" of the x-men family but I beg to differ. Jean played emotional black mail w/ 3 out of the four original x-men for years before finally settling w/ Scott. Mind you, she turned him down the first time he proposed.

Jean ruined Madelynne's life.

Jean always benefits from the reputation & accomplishments of OTHER PEOPLE (Phoenix II, Madelynne & Rachel in particular) to make her seem tougher than she ever really was. She'd been an X-men for years...but she got her ass BEAT by Madelynne Pryor...TWICE.

She's so unimaginative, she didnt have a code name for over a decade! Too "old" to be Marvel Girl but to WEAK to call herself "Phoenix" & when she finally DID become Phoenix IV, she DIED at Magneto's hand.

She claims to be saintly & well adjusted & yet she's shown herself to be nothing more than a BULLY to the point the victim's life was in danger. An example of this is when she attacked Emma Frost over the psychic affair he was having w/ her. She was so righteous in her anger yet she could never understand why Madelynne felt as SHE did when Jean destroyed HER marraige?

She has TERRIBLE taste in men- Mastermind, Wolverine, FANTOMEX!?

She caused the decline of Psylocke as a telepath & all around character

Her fashion sense/choice of costumes was so bad even Jessica Jones looked more put together than she did.
