Ever since the misplaced (imo) outrage over "Nipplegate" at the Superbowl of 2004, Janet Jackson has been on a commercial slump. Her last THREE Albums (Damita Jo, 20 Y.O. and Discipline) have BOMBED, her latest tour effort collapsed just mid way through. Antonio L.A. (SCUMBAG) Reid dropped her from Island Def Jam (the same record company responsible for Mariah's marketing juggernaut and subsequent "comeback" in 2005) and she's still dating that short weasle looking mofo Jermaine Dupri!

Jermaine Dupri may have worked magic for Da Brat, Kris Kross and some Mariah remixes, but he should NOT put his hands on ANY Janet project. Just cause they play in the bed doesnt mean they will work in the studio.

Can Janet make a TRUE comeback? or is she (as more and more people are starting to say on various music blogs) "The biggest fraud in the pop music genre" as a dancer? few are her equal, as a singer? her vocals have become LESS present on her own songs now than her "old school" catalogue. Has she reached the end of her ride as "Michael's super star sister?"

LOL @ 'that short weasle looking mofo Jermaine Dupri'

I haven't cared about Janet Jackson since her album, 'All For You'. Her music has become nothing but studio tricks and predictable beats. It's boring and it makes her look like she's trying to hard to fit in with 'the younger crowd'. I wish she would go back to her Rhythm Nation or Velvet Rope days and stop with this whole 'i'm so sexy i'm going to wear a half shirt and lip sync to crappy songs my producer made for me' bullshit.

and the IRONY of THAT is...she BASHED Madonna for doing it back when Madonna SHOULD have been doing it...the 80's-90's and even through the 2000's before she settled down a bit to raise her children. Janet is trying shit Madonna tried over a decade ago to try to revive her career (witness the "Discipline" album which is little more than a KNOCK OFF of Madonna's "Erotica" disc which at the time of IT'S release was truly unique)

This is all news to me especially the whole bashing Madonna bit. But hit maker or not I always liked Janet. Granted, her music and her career isn't what it used to be. But I still like her stuff and I have a few of her albums.

On a fair note if Britney Spears can make a comeback and even Mariah then I think Janet can get herself together too. Lately though, all I hear about her is the yo-yo effect of her diets. One minute she's chunky and the next she's toned.

I think she does need something fresh and unique. But let's face it Janet is older now. Madonna always had that knack for reviving her career, her look, and her sound. A raw talent not many singers can accomplish these days.

I think she CAN, but when you have someone in the industry THAT in love with you and up your butt all the time, you lose perspective. She can dance AND sing, but she need to get a fresh perspective. The mistake she is making is not trying to re-invent herself a la Madonna. Its doing it without putting in the work Madonna has, without the thought and calculation that Madonna has always used.

If you put her back on her diet, gave her over to Timbaland or Kanye, even to the Neptunes or a combo with some unique people (Erick Sermon? Fatman Scoop?), and paired her up with some different people (Jaheim maybe?), she would be just fine.

Her problem in part is Dupri. He is so yesterday and therefore so is SHE.

I totally agree with Garrick. She probably COULD have a come back but she really hasn't changed up her music since 2000, and people are sick of it.. Now she is all in love with Dupri experiencing VERTIGO or some weird thing like that, cancelling tour dates.. it's just sloppy..

I would love to see her colaborate with ALL of those people Garrick, that would be a killer album.

I wouldn't surmise that her career is over, I would say she's acting like her brother more and more. What I would personally like to see is those two get together and do a couple of hot singles as a launch pad for a big comeback. I always felt that if she worked more with her brother rather than try to fit in the mold of the day she would be better off. We will see.

I dont know about Kanye. After all, he did two singles from her Damita Jo album and of the two, only "Strawberry Bounce" became a MINOR hit. So clearly everything he touches ISNT gold.

Even his appearence on Madonna's latest dance track "Beat goes on" was viewed as disjointed and out of synch with the tone of the song...thankfully it was Pharrell who produced it and gave Madonna yet ANOTHER hit off her latest CD.

Timbaland might work for Janet. He's worked for Britney, Nelly F., The Spice Girls and yes...most recently Madonna. His disciple, Nate "Danga" Hills gave Britney some super smash hits including "Gimme more" and HE might also be an option for Janet.

She shouldnt have dismissed her long time production duo of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. They've given her just about ALL of her hits that most people know of to date. They have worked their magic for everyone from Vanessa Williams, Patti Labelle and even Celine Dion in giving ear pleasing dance/mid tempo numbers and their synergy with Janet is the stuff music legend is made of.

a collabo with Michael Jackson? NEXT---> he is SO five minutes ago and their LAST outing together "SCREAM" in 1995 was an overhyped BOMB.

That album was poorly marketed and still had too much Dupri on it. Kanye is no guarantee but he is more than she's got now. If she had HALF his sales she would be more than back.

I was there, dear. SCREAM was a critical and sales hit, making the top ten in nearly every worldwide chart, debuting at 5 here and getting her a Grammy for the video. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis did it again for her...

I agree with Timbaland, though. he would work her up nice. I also could see her working with R. Kelly. He can make reading the phone book a chart-topping experience.
