I am a fucking god.
Nas is great, but Royce the 5'9", Em, Luda , and Jay-Z are equally as good, in my opinion. Busta Rhymes and a few others operate on the next lower tier.
One thing about this thread that has me a bit pissed is that everyone is piling on Hip-Hop while music IN GENERAL is going to hell in a hand basket. It can be argued that there was a Golden Age from 1980-1995 on music that no longer is being made.
For example, would you take Britney Spears or Madonna? Usher and Chris Brown or Marvin Gaye and Luther Vandross? Panic at the Disco or U2? Hell, U2 now or U2 then? Anybody grunge or Nirvana? Most of the country made today or Garth and Randy Travis and Reba McIntyre? Anybody or Michael Jackson????? Any/All of the rap today or Biggie, Tupac, Public Enemy, Run-DMC, LL Cool J, Beastie Boys, X-Clan, the Fat Boys, Heavy D and the Boyz, The Get Fresh Crew, Boogie down Productions, NWA, Salt & Pepa (with Spinderella), Sweet Tee and Jazzy Joyce, The Two Live Crew, Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, Eric B. and Rakim (one of the greatest rappers EVER, BTW), Kool Moe Dee, Chubb Rock, Stetsasonic, The Force MDs, Full Force, Roxanne Shante, Biz Markie, Big Daddy Kane, Def Jeff, Moeski Love, ans I KNOW I am missing somebody.
It's as much the landscape of music in general as anything else, and it seems to be getting better.
