In an interview with Military.com, actor Terrence Howard has revealed that shooting on the sequel to Iron Man will begin in March of 2009, which is a good thing, since the film is already on the release calendar for 2010. We know that Jon Favreau will be back to direct, and that Robert Downey, Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow will return, as well.

What we don't know is...everything else. Of course, there were some tips of the hat to future stories and storylines in the film, but we don't want to discuss them here, in case you are one of the three people on Earth who have yet to see the movie. We're sure details will begin leaking soon.

Was checking out Favreau's myspace site, the Q&A stuff he does for fans. I hope they can get this produced according to Marvel's timeline.

Any good news on contract talks between you and Marvel yet?
JF: It’s been five weeks since the one and only phone call my reps have gotten from Marvel. I know their hands are full with the Hulk and I’m sure they will get into it shortly, as they tell me they intend to. I ran into the Marvel guys at the Hulk premiere and everyone sounded eager to get to work on IM2.

I am concerned, however, about the announced release date of April 2010. Neither Robert nor I were consulted about this and we are both concerned about how realistic the date is in light of the fact that we have no script, story or even writers hired yet. This genre of movie is best when it is done thoughtfully and with plenty of preparation. It might be better to follow the BB/DK, X/X2 three year release pattern than to scramble for a date. It is difficult because there are no Marvel 09 releases and they need product, but I also think we owe it to the fans to have a great version of IM2 and, at this point, we would have less time to make it than the first one.

Have you seen The Incredible Hulk yet, and how is it?
JF: I saw it last night and it was a lot of fun. I think you’ll all enjoy it. It left me with a lot of questions about Shield and the Avengers. I don’t want to spoil it by getting too specific since it’s not out yet. I’m curious to hear how the fans interpret it all

I know you said that it would be hard to direct Avengers if it came out a year after Iron Man 2, but do you think that you may throw your hat in to be a producer ?
JF: I was really bummed when I saw that there was only a year between the two whe Marvel announced the release dates. It would be impossible to direct both.

Having Stark reveal his identity in the movie was a gutsy move. Was that a tough decision and if so, did you kinda fear writing yourself into a hole with it, or was it more to buck the whole ’secret identity’ thing, and remove the burden of that from the story so you could get to more original and/or interesting issues?
JF: To be honest, it was Kevin’s idea. I was against it at first, but I am very happy I gave in. I think it opens up a whole different approach to a well explored genre. We are no longer limited by the thin at best secret identity that would’ve only dumbed down the sequels. The "bodyguard."

Who’s idea was the captain america shield?
JF: ILM surprised us with it and we kept it in.
