I have this board that I'm trying to promote and get people to join, and it's not working. Now, I have a sneaking suspicion that it's because it's a ProBoards among other things.

Now, I'm good with the planning and I'm good with everything else and rules and such. However, I'm not good with the graphics. So even though I had reservations, I brought this person [who is younger than 16] on staff as admin because they know their way around PBs and stuff [mind you, they told me that they hardly have any members on their boards after they came on].

The graphics are okay, but I know there's something still missing.

The theme is TV and I've got it all set up like a studio basically. It looks really cool. I originally wanted on a freebie board because I refuse to waste money by having a vbulletin board if nobody's going to join anyway. So I was thinking about an invisionfree board but I had forgotten what it was actually called until after I got the board on PB all set up and stuff.

Anyway, in anticipation of getting many members and stuff, because everybody likes tv right, I started making a 'secret' board on invisionfree and set it all up like I did on PB. Did I mention that I know crap about graphics?

I would include the link to my board but I'm embarrassed by it, actually.

My question is, how do I get out of having them on staff? I appreciate their helping me, I really do, but I want my board to be taken seriously and it just seems like it's begging to be mocked. :( I don't want to hurt their feelings so should I just lie to them and say that it's just not working and close up shop and open up the invisionfree without their help? Or should I just go for broke and open a vbulletin [which would require me finding a partner since I have no idea how to work a simple webpage let alone an entire board technically speaking that is]?

What do you guys think?

I know nothing of running a board or attracting members but at the end of the day you are the boss, While you are there for the members they are not your masters. Use your own judgment if you feel someone should or should not be on staff roll with your feelings and have some 4 letter words for any haters that come your way. Seriously though luck with the board.

Thank you for the advice. :) I really appreciate it. It helps a lot.

id agree w/ BK. it would HELP to have a staff that you know & trust. the staff here have known one another for several years now. we've worked & posted together on various boards through the years. BUT if you dont have ppl like that you can count on, you can always go it alone & unless you have lots of time & $$, using a free board is probably your best option.

ultimately the main thing is don't take it too seriously. it's a board & it should be for your entertainment. NEVER be made to feel like you have to avoid your own board OR be afraid to lay down the law w/staff or problematic members if it comes down to it.
