Have you ever been on a message board where you see a woman...more like a GIRL who is extraordinarily popular with all the men? she cyber flirts with everyone and has this shiney, "nymph frolicking in a forest" type of personality?

I've seen a few through the years...there were at least two on the Charmed Boards and then there were two TOTALLY pathetic sluts on the marveldirectory/splash page board.

One was cybering down half the males on the board in the PM box and the other one was lying about her identity every other week. one minute she was a nurse, the next minute she lived in a mental hospital (and yet she still had access to the internet? LMAO) and yet these two were the "popular" girls while REAL women like myself were largely ignored.

Now for myself? i didnt want the kind of attention those perverted fools were giving in that way. All i wanted was a respectfull place to talk about comics and to share a woman's perspective...but of course that couldnt happen because most of the "men" on these boards were stupid, childish, immature, sexist, egotistical, closeted racist pigs. Some of them were downright NASTY (harrassing young girls...16-17 in their boxes among other things).

WHY do these things have to be associated with comic related message boards? it must be something to do with these younger children...i dont know..because in MY day (before there was a such thing as the "internet") i could freely mingle and interact with male comic readers and not have the problems ive had with these fools online.

But its not just comic boards...I've seen a few boards filled with morons, idiots and the "behind the scenes" shit that goes on makes you wonder if any of them EVER take time AWAY from their computer.

Just wanted to put that out there.

if its any consolation its not just comics boards. its a product of the greater internet rule of anonymity: give a person a crowd and an anonymous identity and they feel its a free ticket to act like an ass. Most people for some reason believe its not enough to just put forward your views on a topic but you also have to act like an ass to everyone that disagrees until they relent and accept whatever you think as the one truth. The strength and weakness of the internet is the lack of a human face, as long as something or someone is nothing more than a faceless drone to you, at some level it allows a person to dehumanize and degrade without effecting them men women and children are all subject to this. I can tell you the number of times i hear from people that some random person i grown to hate online (we have a DC++ hub with a chatroom) is really a much nicer person in real life. Its a big part of psychology if you can't see them then they aren't people.

I agree with BK. Additionally, the anonymity of the internet makes some people act out sexually in ways they would never do in real life. The lack of consequences is the easiest reason I see.

i dont get why a woman (or GIRL as in the case of those vagabonds on MD/SP) would want to be a slut on a message board. why would someone want to flirt with every "male" and think the way to popularity is by acting like a bubble headed tramp. i've never understood that and it really offends me to my core to see stupid little girls who act like that. BK, Rampage...you two know EXACTLY who i'm talking about when i refer to MD and they were some of the MAIN ONES starting drama via pm , causing MODS to fight over them etc.

I think it was Jerry Hall, Mick Jagger's ex wife, who said that "the internet is a beautifull thing because you can be whoever you want to be" and that is a novel idea, but ive seen many times where its just gotten out of hand ridiculous.

if i could even guess at a reason i say some people get so tired of being themselves that they just want to be anyone else even as it was said a tramp

But honestly, the majority of females that I have met online are like that. I think that we have to understand that many people are on the internet talking because they suck at it in "real life". You get the loser girl that no one likes or who desperately wants acceptance (usually young) and they will write anything to some of the losers that troll the net if it gets them a friend.

It is akin to females I knew back in the day that hung out with their circle of friends primarily as sexual relief for whatever guys struck out that night. Not uncommon...

Many people choose different identities and personalities online for a variety of reasons. It's kind of like a cyber version of Mardi Gras I suppose. The internet is the ultimate mask and teh netziens are the ultimate crowd in which someone can find anonymity. I suppose it's better than acting out in real life.

I was just perusing threads on another forum, and I can't believe how stupid some people are. Their comments, and the idiocy inherent within them, come very close to making my head explode. Am I just being intolerant or does anyone agree with me? Is there a difference between an opposing discourse backed by facts and rational thinking, and typical, bullish internet stupidity, or are they one in the same? Where does one draw the line?

And even then, is it okay to be prejudiced against stupid, ignorant fools? :pconfused:

we're gonna merge this in with the "Board Sluts and Ego Maniacs" thread ;) since its all related.

and no you're not being intolerant. "board bullies" rank right up there with board sluts and ego maniacs. I keep referencing Marvel Directory which is defunct but that was by FAR the WORST place online i'd ever been. PREVIOUSLY that distinction belonged to rpmb.com (russ par morning board.com)

what amazes ME though is that on some boards you see an alarming amount of supposedly "young" people who are so "conservative" its scarey. Ann Culter could RETIRE if she recruited some of the people i've seen on various boards and their right winged rhetoric. It goes behond right/left. some people are just painfully close minded.

I've seen plenty of those on AOL chat rooms under the Arts and Entertainment section. I browse for role-playing buddies but some of the chat names are downright disgusting. Titles like "Blow me IM rp", "Bend me over and hit it". That's not role-playing at all! That's just cybering flat out. Most of which are young girls who aren't even eighteen yet. The sad thing is that AOL does nothing to rectify the perversion that is spouted online.

I was also a part of this mutant based storyline on a message board a couple of months ago. I was role-playing out a character on the board. The next thread showed explicitly a couple having sex. It was not only distasteful but atrocious. The writer used snatch to describe a woman's vagina LOL. Hello, that's so '90's. I wanted to vomit at the lack of taste that went involved. I've role-played out adult scenes but its tasteful, creative, and not just about the art of sex.

My point in describing the above is that the writer behind the character was nothing more than a tramp. I would watch her interact with male role-players and flaunt it. Not only was she young but immature too.

I remember back on the Charmed boards, the original version there were a lot of young members. I was only seventeen / eighteen but in the role-play aspect I saw some sick stuff especially in the club scenes lol. The more mature role-players would "fade to black" but otherwise would explicitly post what their characters were doing.

But, I have to agree, its not just comic boards, its any message board or fan club. People spout off at the mouth because they can hide behind a computer screen. Most of the girls who throw themselves at men have some sort of self conscious issue. Online I've noticed some girls create this image in their head that they are beautiful or whatever. I've seen guys try to be 'pimp' too lol.

Either way I can't stand tarts like that. I lose all respect for them. It goes to show they can't get some lovin' offline lol. But that's why they invented sex toys LOL.

it gets to a point where you really have to wonder what goes through some peoples head. Does a little anonymity mean death to decency??

I hate it when on-line folk can't tell the difference between their opinion and a fact and take things personally. I also hate the hypocrites who'll crap all over you for joking or just for giving your opinion and then, they take a fit if they get treated the same. I also hate seeing it happen to posters I call and think of as a friend.

One of my friends are like that. When i am with her out and about she is soo shy, one of the quietest girls around but when she is online she flirts with any man (and sometimes women) that wil chat to her! I don't see the point in it myself.

its a little freaky thing, everyone wants to be noticed i think and if they can be someone else a little bit to get it they will
