You have a very dear, close friend who becomes involved with someone. After being being introduced to that "someone", you become good friends with them as time passes. Your close friend and this "someone" break up badly. Will you end your friendship with "someone"? Do you try to stay neutral and maintain your friendship with the first person AND "someone" OR would you allow yourself to pick sides and even choose "someone" over your original friend?

Me personally- there's no question. If a close/dear friend of mine got with someone and I met that person and we became friends in our right, the moment they broke up my loyalty lies with my original friend. I don't believe in the "middle of the road" shit in situations like that. part of being a REAL friend is being loyal and standing by the person.

Yeah I guess my loyalty would be to the original friend as well...though I would try and stay civil with the other person, cause it's not really my business.

But then again, when this has happened to me it's been the original friend who was wronged. I'm not sure what I'd do if the original friend did something really horrible to the other person. I guess it would depend on how close I'd gotten with the other person.

My relationship with each person is exactly that: MY relationship.

It would depend on how close I was to the original person versus the new person. But I would not simply give the years to the first person and have that be that. In addition, I believe that I am capable of dealing with each friend on their own.

In fact, one of my best friends ever is the ex of one of my former homies. Turns out she was the good one and he managed to nearly mess up my wedding...long story. She is my son's godmother.

I think it depends on the situation really. Like Garrick said, it's none of my business so who am I to say I would stop being friends with the second party? If they cheated on my friend, then yes, I wouldn't have anything to do with them. However if they just broke up because they were fighting over stupid shit or didn't want to be together anymore, I wouldn't cut ties with the second party, especially if I became good friends with them.
