WASHINGTON – House Republicans on Thursday took another swipe at taxpayer support for public broadcasting with legislation to bar federal funding of National Public Radio and prohibit local public stations from using federal money to pay NPR dues.

Democrats generally criticized what they saw as an effort by the GOP to punish NPR for what conservatives say is its liberal bias. Republicans say NPR is fully capable of standing on its own without federal dollars.

Yeah fucking right. This is another example of GOP retaliation just like what's happened in Wisconsin and other areas. The amount of programming on radio and tv devoted to convservative agenda/point of view is disproportionately MUCH LARGER than that for liberal point of view thanks in large part to Reagan and his anti-regulatory extremist co-horts destroying the Fair Doctorine Act in 1987. How the hell is the GOP gonna whine and complain about "liberal bias" when they DOMINATE the air waves?

Why isnt NPR FIGHTING BACK? They have the support of the public, which the GOP doesnt seem to respect or care about (witness what's happening in Wisconsin).

And finally- the GOP feels that NASCAR needs federal dollars but NOT NPR? :tomato:bunch of fucking bullshit. I shouldnt be surprised, since its the GOP BUT this just seems very repugnant to me. NPR is responsible for some wonderful radio and TV programming, including PBS. Generations have benefited from this. What will happen now?
