Has anyone beside me thought about how the cruelest, most depraved acts of atrocity have occurred amongst "civilized society"? I was having a discussion w/ someone about why horror movies made today dont have the same impact as the ones that my generation or my parents generation did & we both ultimately agreed that real life is scarier than what you see in the movies these days & that lead us to talking about how perhaps studios should produce films about real events that have happened in human history & how terrifying they were- things like colonization, trans atlantic slave trade, holocaust, witch trials etc.

Just wondering what anyone here thinks about that?

It's true; real life is far scarier than "reel life".

Like when I first heard about the movie, The Human Centipede earlier this year. Mind you, I have never seen it and I don't ever want to see it. But it haunted me for weeks and I did not know why. After all, it couldn't happen in real life I thought to myself. Then I remembered Josef Mengele and how he loved his 'science projects'. He had done some awful and despicable 'experiments' that I refuse to go into because it pisses me off what he did.

Anyway, even though he never did anything like make a human centipede, and if he did please don't tell me, he had done far worse than that. I did research; it's nightmare-inducing. I still have no idea how a real live human being could do this. I may never know. :(
