there's the sanitized & woefully inaccurate stuff taught in gradeschool through highschool & there's the opportunity for a more honest & in depth version in college.
One of my first history professors, a remarkable woman named Wendy Sandecki opened my mind to studying REAL history & that's when I decided to make that my minor in college. Of course when you start to study real history, for example, how THIS country was "founded"....it really changes things for you. That's why i dont celebrate "thanksgiving"...its a holiday that basically commemorates murder.
what's your take on history & the way its taught or whwat people think they know? I find it cringe worthy how misinformed some people are about certain things & even now, I'm having to take time to read & learn (or UNlearn) things I thought i knew. I went through that w/ more in depth reading on the holocaust. & lately ive started to delve more into reading about the trans-atlantic slave trade. all i can say at this point is "MODERN" human beings are FUCKED UP. :thought:
