NEW YORK - Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday at a downtown Manhattan residence in a possible drug-related death, police said. He was 28. NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said Ledger had an appointment for a massage at the Manhattan apartment believed to be his home. The housekeeper who went to let Ledger know the masseuse was there found him dead at 3:26 p.m.

The Australian-born actor was an Oscar nominee for his role in "Brokeback Mountain" and has numerous other screen credits

Omg...i'm shocked by this news...

I just read on TMZ that police are saying it's an accidental death, but they won't know for sure until the autopsy tomorrow.

and he was just 28, poor thing. :(

seems like every generation will have actors and entertainers that leave this world far too early.

I just read that those freaks from Westboro Baptist Church will be picketing Heath Ledger's funeral because he portrayed a gay man in Brokeback mountain. I can't believe those assholes....let the man rest in peace!

If they got their asses beat flawless just ONE time, they would cut that shit out. I have a brother-in-law in Iraq, and God forbid. If anything happened at a funeral, I would bet $$$ that there would be gunplay. Some by me.

If I ever met up with any of those freaks i'd land in jail for real. They're fucking unbelieveable...

ditto on THAT...especially if the pastor or his MANNISH looking daughter were there....

now Westboro Baptist Church just got slapped with a multiMILLION dollar lawsuit about this very thing and was found GUILTY. they owe more money than th eir church even HAS right now. you'd THINK they'd get a frickin clue.

disgusting behavior a funeral is no place for a picket especially for such a bigoted and idiotic point.

I cannot correctly express through spoken words how deeply saddened I am at the thought of this news; so, I type.

A death is a loss. Celebrity status aside, I view this as a tragedy. The death of Heath Ledger emotionally cuts me deeper than the fact that he had been a beautiful actor. He was a human; he had life. It pains me to notice that the times that I really reflect on death is after the passing of a well-known human being. Death occurs more than I'd like to think; "star" or not. More so than I am shocked about his death, I am shocked at what effect this has had on myself. People die more than daily; everyday, all the time. He lived and breathed as I do, but in a different situation. His death was unexpected. Was it unexpected for him? I doubt anyone will ever really know.

I like to believe that when you die it is the end. Not to be pessimistic or dark, but because when it's over so is the pain. Had he been pained? I am almost certain; everyone hurts. Ledger's death hits me hard not for his fame, or money, or even his acting. Ledger's death hits me because the news awoke me from my own world. In reality we all fall down and eventually die. Celebrity status aside, may Heath Ledger's family value life. We should all value life to the greatest extent. Let him never be forgotten.

It worries me to know that we live in a time where prejudice follows someone even after death. OR that such strong hatred regarding a difference in sexuality even in a movie part (or anything along the lines of race, gender, financial situations, etcetera) exists at all. I will never understand; never see the point in that. It's sick...a funeral? I do understand that different individuals have different beliefs but,...a funeral? I feel terrible for his family, his friends, everyone. People have different beliefs, BUT respect is important.

it'll be at least 10 days before the official cause of death is determined/released to the public, so stand by for endless speculation and rumours to the point of nausea....let's just hope we dont get a coroner making a statement like "there was nothing remarkable about his anus" (the statement made about Anna Nicole Smith after her autopsy)

I remember reading the Article online while on lunch. At first I thought it was a practical joke or some headline where it says the actor is dead but in reality they play a dead role or something. I was bewildered by the death of Heath, I loved him in 10 Things I hate about you, A Knight's tale, I didn't find him fabulous in Brokeback Mountain though lol.

I feel sorry for the little girl, I think she's only two years old with ex-girlfriend Michelle William's.
