Alright...i dont think anyone here OUTSIDE of the "25+" crowd is going to know much about this dance diva/model/actress...But I find her to be utterly intriguing and beautifull and if i WERE a lesbian she'd be on my list (along with Madonna, Gloria Estafan, Halle Berry and a few others lol) of women i'd make out with.

Most people probably know THIS SONG of her's . its one of those classic 80's disco/dance hits that has been sampled many times over the years by artists like Coolio, Madonna, and many more. or THIS ONE.

Grace is considered to be a noted dance/disco artist in the 1980's BEFORE Madonna "took over" and she remained relevant throughout the rest of the 80's before reinventing her style and taking on electronica, house and more dance music in the 90's and beyond.

As a fashion model, Grace Jones kept company with the likes of Jerry Hall and Margaux Hemmingway. Everyone credits Naomi Campbell with being "the first black super model" but really that should go to either Beverly Deangelo or Grace Jones.

Grace is also an icon for men AND women, gay, straight, transgendered and whoever else. She celebrates and flaunts her androgynous and striking figure and presence and credits her World War I hero grandfather as being the influence of her famously intimidating looks. She believes in sexual freedom for EVERYONE no matter who they are, what their gender identity is etc and has never wavered from that, even running afoul of some hard core feminists because of the imagery and presentations she has made expressing her views (witness her appearing naked in a cage writhing about in the throws of an "orgasm").

PERSONALLY, i think she's an EXCELLENT point of reference for feminism in the 80's and beyond when women were taking BACK sexual power from men that grew up in the "Hugh Heffner/Playboy" age.

After reading an article recently where she BLASTED Sarah Palin, saying that the women was the WORST kind of example for any other woman to follow and that she "couldnt stand her"...I got to thinking about Grace Jones, the multitalented woman who was the MAIN CHOICE for Marvel to cast as Storm when they were trying to get an X-men movie off the ground in 1989.

Anyone else here a fan of her's? or have an opinion on her?

I am a fan of grace Jones. She was great in the Conan movie and "Pull up to my Bumper" was a great song in the day.

If you liked the original, try the remake by Patra with the reggae feel to it. Quite clever.

that's actually a REALLY good remake. It's loyal to the original, with just enough enhancement to make it sound fresh for younger kids who might not know about Grace Jones. I wonder if Grace has heard this and what she thinks of it. I like that Patra (whose song "worker man" [the remix] was a favorite of mine in 1993) didnt try to over do it. she kept the song's sound intact and while her voice isnt as strong as Grace's, she still did a good job.

Can you imagine how fierce "STORM" would have been had she been portrayed by Grace Jones? i know by NOW she'd be considered too old for the role but in the 80's she had the PERFECT look for Storm (and as I understand it, Grace Jones was in fact Chris Claremonts muse for giving Storm her famous "ms. mohawk" makeover and carrying that harder, glamor/ punkish look through the remainder of the 80's)

She is just one of those people that is a FORCE to be reckoned with. She definitely pushed the lines of androgyny and it was just amazing. Let's not forget her stint as May Day on James Bond, was she not the first Black Bond Babe? She has a really unique energy about her. I like her alot.

Oh And BTW, I didn't know she was the singer of Slave to the Rythm, because at Old Navy they play a cover of that song all the time and everyone LOVES dancing to it, so dramatic and borderline hysterical lol. So matter of fact!
